A Personal History Of Sound
Scanner and Soniccouture have collaborated to develop a custom tool to utilise his huge personal tape archive, documenting an entire sonic life and career.

Stripped back to the basics, Scanner: Library is a bold experiment in the power of layering sound. With such a diverse and characterful archive to draw upon, it was imperative that the interface would tread lightly.

Three modules with basic envelopes + filters, a delay unit and some custom reverbs. This setup gives over 10 million possible combinations of sounds gathered over a 40 year career.

Fragments, Loops & Possibilities
Scanner: Library features 401 original recordings + a library of 200 presets to get you started. Robin designed over 100 presets himself.

Most of the audio was recovered from cassette tapes, and features the famous police scanner recordings, electronic improvisations, location audio, analogue experiments and all manner of sonic ephemera.

These recordings were then processed by Scanner through his expansive modular rig, bringing new life and texture to the original tape fragments.

Add Your Own Samples

Scanner: Library encourages experimentation and adding your own sounds into the mix is an inspirational way to build your own soundscapes.

A simple drag+drop makes this possible – add single hits or entire tracks.

The Scanner instrument is composed of three identical modules plus a delay + reverb module
Each module has envelope controls, filter controls (with harmonic presets), wow and start randomisation.

Each module can be set to play in Pitched / Fixed / Backdrop Mode. You can reverse the sample or load your own.

The recovered tape audio was post-processed using a wide selection of gear:
Fostex 280 Multitrack tape recorder | Make Noise Morphagene | Cwejman DMF-2 Filter | Doepfer A-104 Trautonium Filter | Endorphin.es Milky Way | Erica Synths Black LFO | Intellijel Polaris | Make Noise MMG | Mannequins Three Sisters | Verbos Electronics Dual Four Pole Filter | Boss SE-70 | Chase Bliss Onward | Sherman Filterbank | Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus 2
