Flip Sync+tons of CV=groove!

video upload by Frap Tools

"In this patch, we set the green oscillator to Flip Sync, then we used the USTA sequencer to control the integration time, creating a varying glide effect. Then, we used FALISTRI to change its pitch as well, creating these snappy sync sweeps. Thanks to Oliver for suggesting this patch in our workshops!"

More glass sound with BRENSO

video upload by Frap Tools

"The bright TZFM of our BRENSO allows us to get these bright and cheerful glass sounds! We patched an envelope to control the FM deviation, then a slow LFO to control SAPÈLs main clock. The sequence is random, of course, thanks to USTA’s variation capabilities!"

Wiggly LFOs on the BRENSO (credit: Make Noise)

video upload by Frap Tools

"When we saw this video on Make Noise's channel, we thought it was a great patch! [posted here]

So we wanted to recreate it on the BRENSO oscillator and use this technique in a different context. Basically, we're using an offset to throw the yellow oscillator at sub-audio rate and use the timbre modulation section to create some weird-shaped LFOs. We further expanded it through FUMANA, USTA, and FALISTRI.

Thanks again Walker and @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC for the inspiring patch!

Superbooth 2023: Frap Tools - Cunsa

video upload by sonicstate

"We spoke to Giovanni from Frap Tools at Superbooth 2023 about their new Cunsa quadruple analog multimode resonant filter. This filter has a unique open architecture with semi-normalizations that can be used in different ways such as double stereo, single quadruple, or quadruple mono, and is designed to not lose bass at high Q resonance settings. The Cunsa's character knob can tame distortion and imparts a different character to the sound depending on how it is rotated. Combining these parameters, Cunsa can produce a wide variety of effects, and the filter has a ping circuit, turning it into a sound source with a natural and organic decay.

Frap Tools Introduces CUNSA Sound Seasoning Eurorack Module

video upload by Frap Tools

"cunsa /ˈcuːnsa/ s.f. [dialect of Modena of uncertain etymology, probably from a Latin *comptiare, derived from comptus, participle of comĕre ‘organize,’ ‘decorate’] — curing, seasoning (of foods), tanning (of leathers).

Seasoning is crucial for cooking. It is a process that enhances the flavors, glues the ingredients together, and even adds some unexpected kick.

From a gentle refining touch to a shovelful of spice, CUNSA is the perfect seasoning tool for your patches. It can sweeten a sour lead or beef up an insipid bass line, and anything in between.

And, just like a good oil, you can even taste it by itself!

CUNSA is a quadruple analog pingable multimode resonant filter, saturator, mixer, and oscillator.

It is our sound seasoning tool: it can gently even a patch, applying a final touch, or it can set it on fire with a ridiculous amount of spice. It’s up to you and your cooking style!

It consists of four multimode resonant filters with a custom saturation and feedback control that you can use independently or in various combinations and roles thanks to a series of seminormalizations.

The 'Right' Sequencer | Modular Composing | Episode 02

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Your possibilities to compose on a Modular Synth are directly related to the sequencer you're using. So picking the 'right' sequencer for your work is an important task. Your biggest challenge would be to compose or arrange a full song with beats, bass, lead and maybe even chords. I thought it would be fun to use Kraftwerk's 1976 Trans-Europe Express as a 'benchmark', but it turned out a big challenge. It has a simple rhythm (no problem), a super simple bass, a lead and the characteristic 'note ladder' that jumps 5 semitones each 1/2 note. This takes 128 regular steps and sequencers ususally stop at 16, 32 or 64 (if you're lucky). Clock divisions could take care of that. But the song transposes to a different key when the 'note stairs' plays and you'll need a powerful sequencer to transpose all voices to a new key and then turn back. Ground Control and Westlicht Performer couldn't pull it off. I had zero knowledge of NerdSeq at the beginning of this video, but it turned out to be the only sequencer I know of that can do a full song. It's an incredible sequencer/tracker, but it also has a 100+ page manual.

Sequencers roughly come in three flavors: linear, cartesian and arbitrary. The most useful sequencers can do drums, strict patterns and generative parts. I've included Five12 Vector and Eloquencer in my overview, but I have no experience with them. My 'findings' in this video are biased by my own music and workflow and I double-checked the manuals of modules I don't know. It's possible I overlooked some features. I am aware Vector can do drums, but I felt you'd need a dedicated drum pattern editor to qualify as a drum sequencer.

"Mare lunaris" a modular composition by GATTOBUS

video upload by gattobus

"Headphones or a good pair of speakers recommended.
This is a live recording of me playing withy my modular.
I'm playing over two overlapping sequences, each with different measures.
This patch is quite simple, just a DPO drone, Bresnso going into a stereo filter (Popple) with Falistri used as double-envelope. Everything was driven by Fraptools Usta sequencer. Some randomness here and there using Fraptools Sapèl."

"Chances" Live Modular Performance by gattobus

video upload by gattobus

"Some days ago I programmed this patch with my modular and started jamming on it.
Everything is turning around a semi-random sequence programmed on Frap Tool USTA.

If you want to replicate this patch I shared all the info with the guys at @Frap Tools, you can find their patch notes here: https://frap.tools/stage-shift-probab...

At the end of the video you will find a complete list of all the modules I used in this patch."
