Melancholy ambient destruction - Gene Synth GX & Black Hole Symmetry

video upload by Lo-Fi-Si

"Gene Synths - GX
Collision Devices - Black Hole Symmetry

Big fuzz around 02:40 ๐Ÿคฏ

Combining my favourite lofi synth with the destructive power of the Black Hole Symmetry.

Working my way through the effects chain; modulated delay, pitched reverb, then the final massive fuzz.

The harmonics when the fuzz distorts the feedback and delay trails is mesmerising.

When the feedback is set just right and combined with the reverb it creates a wonderful ‘space’ like atmosphere.

A monster of a pedal."

Drifting away and blissing out with Spotykach

video upload by Oscillator Sink

"This year at Superbooth, one of the tents that I returned to multiple times was the Synthux Academy tent, mostly to snatch another few minutes with, what is arguably their current flagship product: Spotykach.

Spotykach is one of those wonderful bits of gear that sits in the intersection of effect and instrument, and its focus is around exploring looping in all its forms - emulating tape techniques as well as various eras of digital looping and sampling. It feels to me like a companion to the music making process. It’s surprising without being unpredictable, new ideas are readily born out of whatever input you provide - a perpetual stream of happy accidents.

It can also be approached in many different ways, but in this video as we explore its features, I’m going to focus on one particular way of using it - a more open, unsynchronized, exploratory approach, which is how I’ve been enjoying using it, but it also can be very rhythmic, controlled too - it has a full MIDI implementation and a lot of features around clock synchronization - but I am who I am and I am feeling a little ambient."

video upload by Somnambule

"'Connect' is an atmospheric ambient session bringing three distinctive electronic instruments into a continuous dialogue: #woas , #chromagene and #polygene.

Floating synthesizer textures, subtle modulation and evolving tones create a spacious, organic soundscape that constantly shifts between delicate harmonics and abstract electronic textures. The Chromagene and Polygene form the sonic core, generating an ever-changing interplay of tone, movement and resonance.

Adding an organic pulse to the piece is the WOAS drum machine, featuring unusual percussion sounds with distinctive Tabla-like characteristics. These earthy, almost acoustic-sounding rhythms merge with the synthetic textures, creating a hypnotic flow between organic percussion and experimental electronic sound.

Rather than following a conventional song structure, “Connect” is an improvised sonic journey — a meeting point between ambient, electronic experimentation and organic rhythm.

Recorded live / no post-production."

video upload by Somnambule

"Hi folks!

#chromagene & #polygene are two unique electronic instruments by ‪@genesynths‬ designed with an almost otherworldly character. Their unusual interfaces, tactile controls and organic, futuristic appearance make them feel less like conventional synthesizers and more like strange technological artifacts — objects recovered from a forgotten civilization somewhere between the distant past and an unknown future.

This recording is a live ambient improvisation, performed entirely in one take with no overdubs, no edits and no post-production. The sounds evolve slowly and organically, allowing the Chromagene and Polygene to interact like fragments of an ancient alien technology being brought back to life.

The idea behind the session was to imagine discovering these instruments as prehistoric extraterrestrial artifacts — remnants of an unknown intelligence, buried for millennia and somehow transported through time. Their strange textures, drones, resonances and evolving tones become a kind of sonic archaeology: a transmission from somewhere beyond our own timeline.

No overdubs. No rehearsed sequence. Just two strange instruments, one live improvisation, and a signal from a distant future.

Headphones are recommended ๐Ÿ––"

This performance explores both sides of the #chromagene @genesynths : its bright, shimmering textures and its deep, haunting drones. The sound slowly evolves between light and darkness, creating an immersive cinematic ambient journey.

Everything you hear was performed live in a single take with no overdubs and no audio post-production. No edits, no additional layers, no mastering tricks—just the instrument and the performance as it happened.

If you enjoy dark ambient, experimental electronics, drones, and evolving soundscapes, I hope you’ll enjoy this session.

Harmonics - Gene Synths GX - no effects

video upload by Lo-Fi-Si

Gene Synths GX

I contacted the man himself to ask about the ‘control’ jack on the GX. It’s for receiving gate signals. So I linked it to the Keystep and sent a single note arp which then allowed me to get entirely lost in tweaking the harmonics and modulation. Here’s a short segment. There’s a lit of depth when you let yourself get lost in the textures."

Lofi atmosphere from the Fieldtone Weaver and Gene GX.

Fieldtone Weaver

What a great combo for instant glitch and lofi melancholy.

Some slight reverb and delay added in the mixer but otherwise clean.

The Weaver is so intuitive and you can instantly get it to play nicely with your gear. Here I sampled the short notes off the GX at the start then just played over the Weaver doing its thing. Sampling the notes you’re going to play means that whatever gets thrown out by the random algorithms will be in tune. That’s why I was able to just twist the knob and go with whatever it gave me.

Great way to spend a Sunday recovering from jet lag ๐Ÿ˜€"

video upload by Somnambule

"Hi folks!

I’m inviting you to another session — this time, a step further inward into the Swedenborg Raum…

The title is inspired by Emanuel Swedenborg, who described spiritual spaces — layers that are not physical, yet still hold structure. Places shaped more by perception than by matter.

This session moves within that space: between structure and dissolution, between control and the moment when sound begins to take on a life of its own.

Recorded with the Polygene II by Gene Synths, a powerful tool for creating subtle textures, evolving layers, and deep atmospheric sound design.

This is a dark ambient / spiritual synth exploration — slow, immersive, and intended for focused listening.

If you choose to engage with it, don’t treat it as background. Let it run, and see what unfolds.

F͠o͠r͠w͠a͠r͠d͠s͠ a͠n͠d͠ B͠a͠c͠k͠w͠a͠r͠d͠s͠ i͠n͠ T͠i͠m͠e͠ /// Ambient Improvisation w/ Polygene II

video upload by Somnambule

"Hi folks!

In this piece, sound is not simply performed — it is discovered, shaped, and gently guided through shifting layers of time.

'forwards and backwards in time' is an ambient improvisation created with the Polygene II by Gene Synths.

The instrument itself feels less like a machine and more like a crafted artifact — a delicate fusion of art and sound design. Its finely detailed structure, almost ornamental in nature, reflects the sonic worlds it reveals: intricate, fragile, and deeply expressive.

Textures emerge like fragments of a submerged civilization, or like transmissions from a distant future. Each movement carries a sense of both memory and anticipation, as if the sound exists outside of linear time.

This improvisation embraces that ambiguity.
There is no fixed destination — only evolving patterns, subtle shifts, and moments that appear, dissolve, and reappear in altered form. The Polygene II becomes a medium rather than a tool, allowing intuition to lead the process.

What unfolds is a quiet exploration of atmosphere and detail —
a space where sound feels suspended, moving simultaneously forwards and backwards in time.

Ambient improvisation with the #polygene by @genesynths .
Experimental ambient, chill out soundscapes, evolving textures and modular-style synthesis.
Live ambient performance focused on atmosphere, time and sonic depth.

unique synth combo | Ambient lofi | Double Knot, Gene GX, Artium Swarm |

video upload by Lo-Fi-Si

"Lorre Mill - Double Knot V3
Artium Instruments - The Swarm
Gene Synths - Gene GX
Walrus Audio - Qi Etherealizer

DK shift registers are providing the bed sequence. The range of notes in the sequences are created using the Slew circuits acting on pitch. The DAC outputs are patched into the Slew circuits. The Swarm provides a nice detuned pad using the Freeze function. The Gene GX has been tuned into the Dk and the Swarm. I’ve dialled down the modulation a little but i’ve kept the lofi grit because I’m addicted to it.

I love playing the Gene GX and I can never get enough of the DK. They both have such unique sounds.

Just playing the Gene GX without any effects. All the modulation is from the GX.

Tweaking the fantastic filter to add some variation.

A desktop jam combining my favourite analogue synths. Using the Double Knot for a rhythmic background created by sending the shift registers through the granular section of the Etherealizer. The Swarm just gives lovely polyphonic pads. And I ‘m so in love with the GX. It’s so much fun to tune in the Chords then start modulating the tones.

Gene GX synth into effects = beautiful lofi atmosphere

video upload by Lo-Fi-Si

"Gene synths Gene GX
Walrus Audio Qi Etherealizer

Sending lofi fuzz and crackles into long delay and reverb with some granular sampling. The grains (at +2 octaves) create subtle trails as they feed into the reverb and delay.

I’m using the VCA Decay to adjust the keys from muffled plucks to longer chords.

The raw sounds of the GX are so interesting but I couldn’t resist exploring what happens when sending them into big effects.

To my ears it’s beautiful.

Pitch bends at 2:45"

Gene Synths GX

New synth day. I’ve been waiting patiently for this to arrive and it was worth every second.

Such a beautiful lo-fi melancholic sound with a load of modulation. I fell in love with the sound when I came across the Gene synths website last year.

Great solid build quality and probably the best knobs of any synth I own ❤️

The interface is unique and encourages exploration and experimentation.

Can’t wait to send it through a looper.

The Most Beautiful Synth In The World?

video upload by Oscillator Sink

"Sometimes an instrument comes into your life and it feels like it was designed and built just for you. The Polygene 2 from Gene Synths, for me, is one of those instruments. An instrument that looks forwards and backwards, that sounds fantastic, demands that the player interacts with it on its own terms and, yes, looks utterly stunning.

In this video we're going to explore it together, how it sounds, how it plays and how it makes us feel!

FX used in the second part of the video and the intros: Hate Echo by Circuitbenders.co.uk and the GFI Specular Reverb v3.
