JEC Running Up That Hill - Fairlight Drone EXPANDED

video upload by James Edward Cosby

Update:

"Here are the settings required to recreate the #FairlightCMI #Drone used on #KateBush #RunningUpThatHill in #StrangerThings

The original was produced using a hardware CMI but anyone with an iPhone or iPad, can get a good approximation using the Peter Vogel CMI App available on the Apple App Store...

https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/peter-v...

The #CMI App does not have a low-pass filter so subsequently the resultant drone is brighter than the released version therefore a low-pass filter or eq will be required to adjust the tone to match the original. Oh and wear headphones!!!

The Fairlight samples and settings used are as follows... (Only one note is used per voice to match the original hardware and to increase the tuning and pan spread for a very wide stereo mix.)"

REALLY REALLY BAD! | MICHAEL JACKSON on HYDRASYNTH, iElectribe & Vogel CMI (Fairlight) | Mini Cover

video upload by Microflat

"I was almost 17 years old. I owned an Italian Elka EK-44 synth but longed for the legendary Roland D-50. Jacko released an out-of-this-world super pop album produced by Quincy Jones and mixed by Bruce Swedien. What a magic couple. Christopher Correll and Greg Phillinganes on excellent Synclavier playing and programming, among others. Incredible handcraft. Supernatural artists.

All audio output effects are default ASM Hydrasynth FX with a bit of compression and mastering done in Adobe Audition. Presets in use are “A114 InYoFaceBass”, “A122 CompThatFunk” and “B086 RighteousOrg”. Drum pattern is delivered by the Korg iElectribe “A19 Minimal 2” preset (BPM 115) with added notes handled by the AKAI MPK Mini controller. The Synclavier-kind-of-orchestral-Hit is delivered by the Vogel CMI (Fairlight) 'ORCH #16' preset."

Fairlight Concept-FW1 Keyboard?

This one was spotted by Nino. You can find it at Crudebyte, an engineering design firm. There's no info other than the image as one of their design examples:

"Success of a product strongly depends on how well the Product Design was elaborated before even starting to work on the first prototype. We help you by immediately turning your ideas into visual realistic sketches, like for example illustrated below."

You might recall Peter Vogel Instruments  relaunched the Fairlight CMA-30A (see here, here and here).  There are rumors that Peter Vogel might be working on a new synth and there are people that seriously want it to happen. Update: the forum appears to be member only; you can click here for an archive of the thread.

Fairlight Instruments Now Peter Vogel Instruments - New Products Coming

via Peter Vogel Instruments

"A facelift for Fairlight Instruments

Fairlight Instruments Pty Ltd is changing its name in anticipation of the release of some exciting new products.

The new name, Peter Vogel Instruments, reflects the company’s transition from building on the past to inventing the future.

I am delighted to announce that we will be unveiling some amazing new products over the coming year, under the new brand. These are now in development and all I will say is that we are working hard to make the new products accessible to the average musician, unlike the Fairlight CMI which back in 1979 cost more than the average house.

The CMI-30A, which we released last year as an homage to the original Fairlight CMI, will continue to be our prestige flagship product. A major upgrade now in the works will become available later this year to existing 30A owners free of charge.

The iOS app has been rebranded and has been withdrawn from the app store pending Apple’s approval. Existing app owners will see an update offered shortly. In response to customer requests, significant new functionality is being developed for release as a free update later this year.

We are also developing an entirely new keyboard product, quite unlike anything previously made by Fairlight — or anyone else.

All will be revealed at NAMM in 2013.

Exciting times!

Peter Vogel"
