Tomorrow Never Knows - Circuit Bent Beatles' cover - SMMP
video upload by SMMP
"Little cover of a classic yet obscure Beatles' tune, one of my favourites!
It's been recorded using only circuit bent instruments (apart from guitar break and vocals), listed at the very end of the video!
A nice FM Digital synthesiser to which I added an analog VCF which really enhances it to be used for pads, nice leads and even some cool basses.
There is also an LFO which controls the VCF allowing rhythmic patterns and pulsating pads!
It's great polyphony and the possibility of modify in real time some FM parameters make it a very versatile instrument, specially when paired with fx such as delay and reverb!

SMMP Drone Synth with Upcycled Pallet Wood Box and Arcade Push Buttons Vintage
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

Update: video here
"Lovely Drone Synth with a vintage look, thanks to the wooden box (made from upcycled pallet wood) and the Arcade Pushbuttons with backlight!
Many sounds to explore, from bleeps to dirty drones, from spacey laser gunshot to cascades of random generated noises!
It features a main oscillator (squarewave), another oscillator that modulates the main one and another knob that adjusts the range (pitch). With pushbuttons and switches you can modify other parameters such as envelops, buffer, glide and more. This particular unit also fetures a built in speaker and amplifier and it works both with batteries (9V) and mains (not included PSU 9V, Centre Positive be careful with this, otherwise you fry it!).
It can be used as a sound device at gigs, for sound design, you can record your own sample pack of sci-fi glitches with it or it could be a lovely present for sci-fi addicts, or even used as a prop...don't miss it!"

Circuit Bent/Augmented Yamaha Pss-80
video by SMMP
"I always loved the Yamaha PSS-80 keyboard, for its lo-fi, almost 8bit, squarewavey sounds. Given it's polyphony, I thought it would be a lovely keyboard if it had a nice filter. So I "augmented" it (rather than bending it) sticking in a filter (I think based on the old Wasp Synth VCF), add a delay, put an LFO that can modulate either the delay or the filter, and a monster on the left side, some kind of pitch tracking, which I built following some instructions in the CD4046 datasheet, but then creating loops with the signal and lowering it down with a CD4040 frequency divider chip. The switches there and the pots, don't always provide nice results, but when they do, they can shake your pants!
Enjoy!"

Circuit Bent Casio SK-1 with Patchbay and Sequencer

video by SMMP

"Incredibly Rare Circuit Bent Instrument - Casio SK1!!!
This one is an augmented machine, different than many circuit bent instruments. Whether you want to use it to make experimental music, sound design, electronic music etc, this instrument provides you with a huge palette of sounds due to the many hard patched glitches, pitch control and particularly thanks to the coloured patch bay in the breakout control box. Here you can also patch ROM points to 4 LFOs (!!!!) in order to create patterns and rhytmic phrases. There is also a programmable sequencer, based on logic chips, which runs in two directions and has some degree of variations in it.
It features:
- Pitch control (with LFO to have vibrato) - Body Contacts - Many Glitches on the main keyboard (these glitches short pins on the ROM board of the keyboard, distorting and originating new sounds/patches) - Patchbay with ROM points, Ground, 4 modulating LFOs
Step Sequencer
- 8 adjustable steps - 1 knob for sequence tempo and a switch to increase speed - Switch to run backwards - 6 switches to create different sequence patterns - input for external clock for the sequencer (not tested)
PSU is not included in this listing."

Handmade DIY Synth - Sound/Noise Generator 5 oscillators madness with CV in
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
video by SMMP
via this auction
"This is a Synth/Noise Generator/Toy/Portal I built completely from scratch. The circuit I designed starts from basic schematics you can find in the datasheet of the main sound generator IC (40106 and 4046). The ways the oscillator interact are based on almost random routing and wiring, going through several logic gates, including a 4066 if I remember well, for automatic switching.
There are 2 LDR, although the video don't make much justice to their function. If on certain setting, it will produce different sound at night rather than during the daytime. You can experiment pointing a torch to the LDR or to bend over them to modulate the sound (it affects the behaviour of two oscillators, in ifferent configurations).
There is also a nice area with bolts sticking out. If you touch two of them, particularly after licing your fingers, you can dramatically control the sound.
There are switches that controls the routing of the oscillators or enable larger capacitors, LEDs to make it funky, and some sort of CVin (minijack). I played a bit with conductive dough I made with my son, but it would be cool to try it with veggies and fruits, more bodies touching while exchanging fluids and so on.
The case is made of stained recycled pallet wood (pine) which I joined using fingers joints and then it's been sanded and polished several times using danish oil. The panels are old circuit board that were skipped in an educational environment and that I recycled from being dumped. Rather than using them as PCB here they are used like panels."
