New Firmware Turns the FM-1 Into an Omnichord

video upload by substatica drones

"FoMni turns the M-VAVE FM-1 into an Omnchord. FoMni is free chord harp firmware for the M-VAVE FM-1, inspired by the Suzuki Omnichord. Pick a chord on the black keys, run a finger across the white keys, and it rings out. Behind it are an organ-like chord, a bass, and the OM-84's ten rhythms, which can play the bass and chord in time.

FoMni-1 - Omnichord firmware for FM-1

video upload by Charles Vestal

"charlesvestal.github.io/fm1-omnichord/"

That makes at least five alternate firmwares for M-VAVE's FM-1: Sloop, Groove, Felucca, BaudGirl, and now OMNI. If you know of any others, feel free to leave a comment.

Update, make that six with XOX.

Intellijel Swells | Four synth explorations

video upload by Jay Hosking

"Four mostly ambient pieces with Intellijel's new reverb and other hardware.

Fair warning: Intellijel sent me the Swells and Jellymix. Take that as you will. Considering how much other Intellijel stuff I use, and considering how much I'm a sucker for reverb, I was excited to try this one out.

00:00 - Omnichord ambient
03:49 - SubH Replay ambient
08:22 - S-4 OVUM ambient
12:35 - Hexdrums jam

Undoubtedly, we're living in a golden era of reverb hardware. I've got more reverb than one human needs, but I love it so much. One thing that means, though, is that I'm looking for reverb that does new things, that isn't just good but different and textural and interesting in and of itself.

In that respect I've been very happy with Swells, and am planning to use it a bunch after this. Swells can play it straight, but the combination of self-generated modulation and great colouration options means Swells can draw attention, add unique character, and fill a role more than simply adding space. I've particularly liked pairing it with Jellymix, using Swells as a send and then using varying amounts of wet/dry across multiple instruments, creating a shared reverb environment that feels pretty glued. It's a great combo.

So do you need another reverb? Probably not. You don't need anything in hardware, honestly. But if you're looking for a hardware reverb that makes you think differently about time-based effects, and if you're looking for a reverb that sounds good in new ways, I think Swells is worth checking out.

Thanks for listening.

Free Omnichord Style Plugin - GCS Strum Plate - An Intuitive Strum Plugin

video upload by Gulf Coast Synthesis

"We developed a new plugin that allows users to intuitively strum notes on software instruments. Instead of using the typical autochord style of an Omnichord and other products, you can hold a chord on a midi keyboard and intuitively strum across the gold plate or via the pitch wheel.

Download it now for free at www.gulfcoastsynthesis.com.

Works on all DAWs and operating systems via AAX, AU, VST, and Standalone formats."

Separate Notes from Rhythm

Strum Plate is a MIDI Effect that decouples what you play from when you play it. Inspired by the touchplate interface of the classic Omnichord, it allows you to hold a chord with one hand and "strum" the notes into existence using your mouse or pitch wheel.

Minichord, Gliss, Plinky & friends

video upload by Grain Blanc

"This little combo is really cool!!
Since Benjamin Poilvé sent me the minichord (a smaller version of the omnichord) to test, I've been trying to find a place for it alongside the tiny rack, and the whole thing works well. The Gliss from ‪@BelaPlatform‬ through the Plinky, Buzzrito (+ Bib for effects) from ‪@bluespoonery‬ adds its variations.

Other modules used are the farbfolder from ‪@MakingSoundMachines‬ the disting mk4 from ‪@ExpertSleepersLtd‬ for reverb and mixer xoh from ‪@MAKEN0ISEMUSIC‬
All candycords cables come from ‪@myvolts1903‬"

Minichord - A Tiny DIY Omnichord With a Big Sound

video upload by HAINBACH

"I love the Omnichord, so when I was asked to give feedback on the prototype of the Minichord, an instrument very much inspired by it, I could not say no. Spoiler: its a fantastic little synthesizer that goes beyond what was and is possible with its venerable Japanese ancestors."
