Exploring A Massive Closed Down Musical Instrument Factory. Finding Some WILD Things.

video upload by LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER

"This week We were lucky enough to spend the whole week at ‪@museodelsynthmarchigiano1717‬ with ‪@Hainbach‬ and we got to visit the amazing bontempi factory."

Abandoned Factory Find - Does This High-End Mic Still Work?

video upload by HAINBACH

"This summer, ‪@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER‬ went to Italy and were kindly allowed to explore the old Bontempi Musical Instrument Factory in Potenca Picena. A massive building and once an important part of the industrial infrastructure of the area, it has been decaying for two decades now and is home to swarms of pigeons. Most of the inventory is sold off, but we still found exiting remnants of the glory days in the rubble. Check out Sam’s video for a full tour, and stay tuned to what I found, as well as bit of history later."

Hainbach Introduces outta-control Italian Synths!

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"When I visited Hainbach at his amazing studio in Berlin, and he introduced me to a whole new world of sound—rare Italian synths that completely reset my thinking. The Farfisa Polychrome is hands down the best string machine I’ve ever heard, with rich choir and synth textures and a built-in phaser that sounds like no other effect I’ve used. The Webo Welson (late 70's) is a rockin’ beast with ripping oscillators, tearing portamento, and beautifully saturated presets that just ooze character. And then there’s the Realton Variophon Gig—a breath-controlled synth that lets you shape the timbre with your mouth. It’s expressive, has rich variable noisy modulation goodness, and is unlike any vocoder or synth I’ve ever played.

Hainbach really opened my ears to a sound palette I didn’t even know existed. He’s a very generous to hang with, and I left his studio totally inspired to create new music. You will too."

Improvised Jam on Iconic Vintage Synths!

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"Fresh off Superbooth 2025, I dropped into the Synthesizer Museum in Berlin for a rare, fully improvised performance on their legendary vintage synths—including the Yamaha CS-80, two ARP 2600s, and a Roland Jupiter-8.
Joining me was my longtime friend and Vienna-based artist Felix of Flame, playing his custom FLAME drum and percussion instruments. Together, we dove into a one-of-a-kind sonic journey—shaped by texture, tone, and the moment.
No script. No presets. Just raw, analog expression—captured live!"

Celebrating International Synthesizer Day at SynthTemple

video upload by Luke Million

"What better way to celebrate International Synthesizer Day than surrounding yourself with the most iconic synths ever made in a giant studio?!

Recently I visited SynthTemple to familiarise myself with what is possible in this amazing sonic playground.

I thought it would be fun to recreate The Chase by Giorgio Moroder and in particular to learn how to use the Roland System 700.

A lot of fun was had and although I didn’t get through the whole track, I learnt so much about SynthTemple and I can’t wait to return to work on new music.

Equipment used;

Oberheim DMX, Roland System 700, Yamaha SPX-900, Solina String Synthesizer, Roland SPV-355, Oberheim Eight Voice, Roland System 100 & Yamaha CS-80

ALAN R. PEARLMAN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL CELEBRATION OF THE CENTENNIAL BIRTHDAY OF ARP SYNTHESIZER FOUNDER, ALAN R. PEARLMAN

Press release follows:

ALAN R. PEARLMAN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES INAUGURAL CELEBRATION OF THE CENTENNIAL BIRTHDAY OF ARP SYNTHESIZER FOUNDER, ALAN R. PEARLMAN, JUNE 7 AT THE MUSEUM OF MUSIC TECHNOLOGY

Kingston, NY - May 20, 2025 - This year marks the 100th birthday of the late inventor of the ARP synthesizer, Alan R. Pearlman. In honor of his pioneering innovations in electronic music, the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation will launch ARP@100: A Centennial Celebration of Alan R. Pearlman’s Legacy with EMEAPP at the Museum of Music Technology. A gala event kicks off a year’s worth of commemorative ARP centennial activities and takes place at EMEAPP, located in Harleysville, Pennsylvania, from 7 -10 pm.

June 7th Centennial activities at the museum include:

A live interview with the ARP Foundation’s director, Dina Pearlman-Ifil

Video excerpts from musicians, former ARP employees, and filmmaker Alex Ball’s celebrated ARP films

Performances on vintage ARP instruments by music pioneer Don Slepian and modular synthesist Ombient

The ability to try out a variety of synths

EMEAPP will unveil, at its Museum of Music Technology, a haven of vintage ARP history in which visitors will encounter an epic collection of ARP synthesizers, including the majestic ARP 2500 and a rare, early ARP 2502 with a cherry drop matrix. The iconic ARP 2600 Blue Meanie will be proudly displayed alongside an array of other ARP classics: the versatile Quadra, the expressive Soloist series, multiple iterations of the legendary Odyssey, the innovative Avatar, the powerful Chroma, the punchy Axxe, the compact Little Brother, and even a remarkable 16-Voice Electronic Piano – many of which will be playable!

Countless composers, musicians, and filmmakers worldwide have incorporated the ARP 2500 and ARP 2600 into their work, including early adopters Pete Townsend (in the “Who’s Next” album) and Elton John (in “Funeral for a Friend”). Stevie Wonder, an early adopter of the 2600, had his control panels labeled in Braille. The ARP 2600 was also responsible for the voice of R2-D2 in Star Wars films, and the 2500 was used to communicate with aliens in Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Alan R. Pearlman’s legacy as an engineer and inventor began at an early age. A fascination with sound occupied his interest, and he spent time as a child building amateur radios. In 1948, as a student at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, he wrote, “The electronic instrument’s value is chiefly as a novelty. With greater attention on the part of the engineer to the needs of the musician, the day may not be too remote when the electronic instrument may take its place as a versatile, powerful, and expressive instrument.”

Attendees may reserve a spot at this exclusive celebration and fundraising event with a tax-deductible donation of $150 per ticket. The contribution includes complimentary wine/beer/other beverages, a selection of snacks, and a swag bag. Parking is Free.

The Museum of Music Technology/EMEAPP is located at 45 Mainland Road, Harleysville, PA 19438, just a short drive from the PA Turnpike Lansdale exits."

Resonance Studios Disrupts Industry Standards, Revives Vintage Gear with Bold Expansion

Press release follows:

Stockport, United Kingdom – April 28, 2025 – Resonance Studios, launched on 808 Day (August 8, 2024), is fearlessly challenging the music industry’s practice of abandoning vintage equipment. By committing to the preservation of these iconic instruments, the Stockport-based studio has curated one of the world’s largest collections of new and vintage musical equipment, earning its place among the top six global hubs for synthesizers, drum machines, and samplers. Guided by its principles of inclusivity and sustainability, Resonance Studios employs expert in-house technicians to sustain this legacy, empowering artists with unmatched access to historic gear.

Expansion Plans
In late 2024, Resonance Studios expanded its team with Producer Tom Sharkett (Pictured) and invested in the latest, state-of-the-art SSL Origin analogue mixing console, complemented by a premium array of outboard equipment, including Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor, Empirical Labs Distressors, Lexicon 224, and Neve Shelford Channel. In 2025, the studio will double its footprint by adding another floor to its premises which is located less than half a mile from the iconic Strawberry Studios. The expansion includes a dedicated repair workshop, a vocal recording booth, a drum recording area, a live room— Where Jimi Hendrix famously performed in 1967—and a sophisticated relaxation and listening lounge for guests.

Connecting Past And Present
The studio’s collection has been further enriched with the incredibly rare Yamaha DX1, Analogue Solutions Colossus, and a Yamaha CP80, previously owned by Strawberry Studios and used by the renowned band 10cc. These acquisitions underscore Resonance Studios’ dedication to merging musical heritage with modern innovation.

'We’ve been delighted with the reaction from the community to our unique studio. It’s a testament to the team how far we have come in less than 12 months,” said John Pilkington, Founder. “Our 2025 expansion, including the iconic Jimi Hendrix live room, an additional technician and enhanced vocal and drum recording reflects our mission to redefine music production and empower artists to create without boundaries.'

Social Responsibility
Resonance Studios reinvests 97% of its profits into maintaining and acquiring equipment, ensuring accessibility for artists of all backgrounds. The remaining 3% is donated to Shelter, a charity supporting the homeless, reflecting the studio’s social responsibility. Every three months, the studio also provides an unsigned artist with a complimentary full day of recording, mixing, and mastering to nurture emerging talent. In 2025, the studio will also be taking on an apprentice technician to learn and preserve the skills required to maintain this specialist equipment.

With its historic live room, expanded facilities, and resolute commitment to preserving musical heritage, Resonance Studios is setting a new global benchmark for music production.

A Miniature Analog Experimental Studio You Can Play

video upload by HAINBACH

"I was commissioned by SMEM, the Swiss Museum and Centre for Electronic Instruments in Fribourg to build them a tape and test equipment studio for their public playroom. While they have a huge collection of keyboards, their test equipment section is meagre. But that was just perfect, as with only a few ingredients I could assemble an instrument that has a surprising range of possibilities. You can play the Hainlab now: https://www.smemmusic.ch
