Behringer Neutron Testing

Published on Feb 10, 2018 DivKidVideo

1. Behringer Neutron Testing - Feature Jam
"Here's my first video of seven (to kick things off, more to come) with the Behringer Neutron. This is a little feature jam with the Korg SQ-1 sequencing the pitch and gate and a few eurorack modular drums mixed in for good measure."

2. Behringer Neutron Testing - Paraphonic VCO & Filter Workout
Here I have a Korg SQ-1 sending a 4 note sequence to the first Curtis CEM 3340 VCO and a 3 note sequence to the second VCO. This gives us some overlapping polymeric (not polymeter, that's conversation for another day) patterns. The VCOs sound great playing overlapping patterns then mixing through paraphonically into the filter/VCA/drive/delay.

3. Behringer Neutron Testing - Synth Drone
Here's a synth drone for the third video of seven from my time testing the Behringer Neutron. There's the BBD Delay, lots of modulation from the LFO and sample and hold as well as the two ADSR envelopes.

4. Behringer Neutron Testing - BBD Delay Workout
PLEASE NOTE - the final version has two BBD chips and a longer delay with less noise until much longer delay times. I'll have that unit coming soon to make more fulsome content.

In this patch from my time testing the prototype Neutron unit from Behringer I'm playing around with the BBD delay chips. The delay can be used completely standalone with input and output and also a CV input for the delay rate (it will with modulation make a great chorus). In the default signal path it comes at the end of the signal path after the overdrive.

5. Behringer Neutron Testing - Acid Patch
Here's an acid style patch with the Behringer Neutron. You can hear the filters snarl and raw character as well as the richness of the oscillators coming through. There's the output overdrive and BBD delay in play at points too.

6. Behringer Neutron Testing - Cosmic Synth FX
While these little teaser videos for the Behringer Neutron are coming to and end (one more video, the seventh uploaded this weekend) here's some Cosmic Synth FX making use of the patchbay and on board delay to create some more abstract and experimental drones and noises. Perfect "sample fodder" to record and cut up for more "conventional" uses as percussion or little noise and FX hits.

7. Behringer Neutron Testing - Sync, Drive & Character
With the sync mode between the oscillators you can get all sorts of overbowing, guitar feedback, plucked string like twang extra harmonics into the core sound on the Neutron before going through the filtering, drive, VCA and delay. So this video is just that, testing out the sync between two oscillators and playing around. It's also the last video in the 7 I made for test patches.

As well as exclusive Moog DFAM BUNDLES too:
https://www.kraftmusic.com/brands/moo...

Scott Collins from Kraft Music conducts a series a sonic experiments with a pair of semi-modular analog synthesizers. The Behringer Neutron and the Moog DFAM (Drummer From Another Mother).

The Behringer Neutron conjures up a broad range of monophonic sounds with finesse and ease, thanks to a semi-modular architecture and an array of realtime controls. Its pure analog signal path is based on authentic VCO, VCF, VCA, and state variable filter designs in conjunction with a flexible, multi-wave LFO and classic bucket brigade delay (BBD). Paraphonic mode allows both oscillators to be controlled independently, while Neutron's onboard patching matrix offers an expanded palette of tonal options. Neutron can be mounted in a standard eurorack case for integration into existing modular systems.

The Moog Drummer from Another Mother is the first addition to the Mother-32 family of synthesizers. This highly interactive, semi-modular analog percussion synthesizer represents a vibrant deviation from the traditional drum machine, offering an expressive hands-on approach to percussive pattern creation activated by an easy-to-use analog sequencer. While DFAM's semi-modular design doesn't require patching, its 24-point modular patchbay provides the ability to create unique sounds and behaviors, synchronize multiple DFAM and Mother-32 units, and integrate into eurorack modular systems.

Get more for your money with an exclusive semi-modular analog synthesizer bundles from Kraft Music. These package deals include the accessories you'll need to get the most out of your new synth, all for one low price. If you have any questions, please give us a call. Behringer Neutron Patches: Lead, Bass, Pluck. Sound Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Analog Fury is a collection of 50 patches: 18 Leads, 16 Basses, 16 Plucks.
This is my second sound bank for Behringer Neutron.
The previous one, Modular Setup, focused on experimental tones that showcased the modular nature of the synthesizer. This time, I aimed to find a balance between experimental and more usable sounds.
I didn't want to create simple, classic patches — Neutron's functionality and rich sound palette made it irresistible not to push its limits. At the same time, I tried to keep myself in check and avoid diving too deep into purely experimental territory.

🧲 Get the soundset: https://bit.ly/3M4zAL9

The presets feature various colors: warm, noisy, detuned, distorted, as well as mild, clean, soft, punchy, dark, bright, deep, and airy. Some timbres are great to play the first role in tracks or jams, while others will work perfectly as additional parts.
You may use the patches as they are, but I strongly recommend tweaking the knobs to develop the timbre during your performance and get an exciting experience.

Plucks are excellent for use with arpeggiators or sequencers.
In most examples of this category, I utilize an arpeggiator. Neutron doesn’t have a built in arp/seq, but you may integrate your preferred arpeggiators or sequencers from your DAW or MIDI controller.

ModWheel is set in all patches. It adds brightness, changes the tone, accelerates the LFO, and other modulations depending on the patch.

The presets are suitable for a variety of genres, including: ambient, electronica, IDM, deep, techno, house, progressive, trance, lounge, downtempo, pop, chill out, new age, cinematic, breaks, synthwave, retrowave, dub and others.

The soundset is presented in the form of PDF-Document. Each page contains notes that explain how the patch works, what parameters are worth tweaking during playback, and how to develop the timbre during a performance. If you make all the settings consciously and try the things mentioned in the notes, you will learn a lot about the synth and discover its true depth.

Each patch has an audio example, it helps to understand how the timbre is supposed to sound. In this soundset, I didn’t use the Neutron's built-in delay. All audio examples are dry. You can add internal or external delay to your taste.

To recreate these patches, you will need up to 10 patch cables.

Drums from the demo are not included in the soundset."

Behringer Odyssey + VC340 + Neutron Demo Song

Premiered 7 hours ago RuFo Music

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

"This is a demo song made with Behringer Odyssey, Behringer VC340 (the one in the blue video through an Electro Harmonix Smallstone analog phaser) and Behringer Neutron, as well as two software synthesizers (Reveal Sound "Respire" for bright arpeggios and Rob Papen "Predator" for bass), because yes digital and analog synths can coexist side by side. This is a new piece, and not based on the previous demo sequence.

Many synth demos show only sounds and features, but I want to show the musical side of it and make a piece of music - that is after all what they are made to do! In all the technical discussions, let's not forget about the music!

The video shows a live performance of the dual-voiced lead of the song, where I play the Odyssey and Neutron (Neutron is controlled by a Roland MIDI keyboard), and they alternate which synth is leading and which is following. This was a technically difficult piece to play due to the multitasking of two voices, recording the result into Reason, and filming with a camera strapped to my head at the same time, but it was also good fun!"

Sonicware Liven Bass & Beats Prototype, XFM, Behringer Neutron - Unfriendly Electro _ Song-a-day 2022

video upload by ChrisLody

Liven Bass & Beats Prototype posts

"Right, getting back on the jams with Song-a-day 2022 which a challenge not unlike Jamuary, but in February obviously.

I've been super busy on development of the Liven Bass & Beats (prototype shown here) as well as other things which is why things have been so quiet here recently. I'm determined to make more spare time in February but it remains to be seen if I'll have enough time to make a track everyday in February. This is also one of my first chances to play around with the Behringer Neutron that I found second hand recently at a very good price

In this jam the Bass & Beats is playing an Electro rhythm on a kit I made as well as a gritty sounding bass patch. The Liven XFM is sequencing the Behringer Neutron (via midi) on a muted track and also playing strings on a separate track. I imagine this combo will appear more over the month. Not the most amazing bit of work arrangement wise this but I was pushed for time today. I'll probably warm up as the month goes on, fingers crossed."

Behringer Neutron First Impressions and Overview

Published on Sep 17, 2018 Andrew Southworth

"The Behringer Neutron is a Semi-Modular Analog Synthesizer with a ton of capability. It features two VCO's, a VCF, and LFO, 1 amp EG and 1 VCF EG, analog delay and distortion effects, and a gigantic patch bay to integrate into your modular setup (Eurorack). The Neutron packs a lot of potential into a very cheap price, especially for an all analog synth. Behringer has been doing an excellent job lately with their synths (Model D, DeepMind12, and new announced instruments), and this is no exception. More to come!"

G-Storm Electro on Reverb

"Audio and Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2019

Today a first patch soundscape/sequence on my new muse,
the Behringer Neutron. Listen that on headphones. No, really.

I haven't come across any compelling demos on the Neutron.
It has great specs, but not much attention was given.
Until I had a chance to play one last weekend at the Dallas
Synth Meet.
HOLY SHNITZEL. This thing blew me away.
The analog BBD delay section is one of the nicest.
So responsive, expressive,
...and lovely thick feedback harmonics.
You can ride the feedback right up to pure chaos, then
back away. It will abide your every move.
And every time I tweaked something it got better and better.
I am really looking forward to getting more cutting edge
sound design with this one!

Sequencing: Beatstep Pro
Recorded Direct to Tascam DR-05.

Behringer Neutron sync modification

Published on Sep 1, 2018 Michael Kukat

"This week, i bought a Behringer Neutron. And i liked it so much that on the same day it arrived, i ordered a second one. The only thing i really didn't like was the oscillator sync, it sounded too "dirty" for my taste. The CEM3340 (or CoolAudio V3340 in this case) can do better.

So i had a closer look inside and decided that i will modify one of my Neutrons to "fix" this sync issue.

This video describes some background, the comparison of the 2 sync mechanisms on the scope and as audio examples, and in the second part a description how to modify it.

Please be aware that this modification is a bit difficult, you should be experienced enough with the soldering iron and have enough time and concentration. Also be aware that modifying your synth will void it's warranty and if you damage it by following my instructions, i will not buy you a new one - do what you do on your own risk! And don't panic if it doesn't work on the first try - i forgot the capacitor in the first try, so the VCO2 was totally blocked - you can see this during the power up calibration where the octave LEDs of the oscillators should flash. If one of them doesn't flash at all, you did something wrong, carefully re-check everything.

Don't ask me why i say 3240 all the time in the video instead of 3340. Maybe it was too early in the morning :)

I hope this is helpful for someone, but please understand that i will not modify your Neutron for you, i'm just a hobbyist with limited spare time. If you can't do it on your own, find someone who can do it for you, this video contains enough information for a routined electronics engineer to perform this modification.

What i forgot to mention in the video - the PNP transistor is a generic small signal PNP type, i used a BC558, i tested with a BC560 before, you can also use the corresponding 2N types, but they have a different pinout, so take care. If you use a BC558 or BC560, you can follow my instructions, for everything else, you need to check the parameters and pinout of the transistor before. BC558 and BC560 have C-B-E when looking at the flat side with the pins facing downwards."
