Frap Tools Falistri Dual Movement Manager Overview by Learning Modular

Published on Jan 7, 2020 Learning Modular

"The Falistri Movement Manager is loosely based on a Buchla-style function generator – but it goes far beyond that, including the addition of a pair of flip-flops (frequency dividers), a four-quadrant (balanced, or “ring”) modulator, and linear slew generator that can be used by the function generators in the module or external modules.

I cover the Falistri in four movies: a basic overview, advanced envelope generator tricks, using it as an LFO, and using it as a VCO.

My Patreon supporters will have access to additional posts further discussing these features: https://www.patreon.com/LearningModular
This movie is also part of the extended Eurorack Expansion course available through Learning Modular: https://learningmodular.com/register/..."

Frap Tools Falistri & Instruo CS-L West Coast Eurorack Setup

Published on Feb 20, 2019 Perfect Circuit

"This eurorack setup is full of West Coast Serge and Buchla inspired modules. Frap Tools Falistri is a dual function generator that can be used as envelopes, oscillators, slews and more. It also includes a VCA/ring modulator. The second half of the video shows the Falistri as a dual oscillator and ring modulator.

The oscillator is the Instruo CS-L complex oscillator which is a dual oscillator with tons of modulation and wave-folding options built in for both oscillators. We used a Random Source Seq8 XL for sequencing.

Instruo CS-L available here: https://www.perfectcircuit.com/instru...

Formant arpeggios patch breakdown: a classic Falistri patch!

video upload by Frap Tools

"Arpeggios without an arpeggiator? That's no magic, just the power of sub-harmonics!

We've been doing this patch for quite some time now, but we never released a complete, step-by-step tutorial on YouTube.

By using Falistri as a frequency divider, we can obtain perfect intervals in the minor scale by sweeping the rising and falling stages. It's roughly the same principle as Oskar Sala's Mixturtrautonium!

Programming the bass sound of West End Girls on a Frap setup was a tough challenge (but we did it)

video upload by Frap Tools

"So we were asked to remake the bass sound of West End Girls by @officialpetshopboys with only Frap modules, and here's how we did it! It's not completely there but still seems like a fair approximation. Got other ideas? Let us know in the comments!

On tape loops, clocks, and sequences | patching Studio No.4 with Francesco Gennari

video upload by Frap Tools

"In his fourth étude, ‪@francescogennarimusic‬ crafts a meditative track by integrating a tape multitracker and a modular synth. The key feature of this patch is the synchronization of the two machines, achieved by using a tape track as a clock for the Usta sequencer, which in turn clocks everything else, from Sapèl to the ‪@empresseffects‬ Zoia."

Developed Slope Generators with FALISTRI the 'Movement Manager' from Frap Tools at Superbooth 2018

Published on May 14, 2018 DivKidVideo

"Simone from Frap Tools takes us through FALISTRI their new 'Movement Manager' which will come later in the year. It's a new take and development on the familiar slope generators of the past and present which can be envelopes, LFOs, oscillators, slews, filters and more! There's also a processing section with Ring Mod and VCAs to control those 'movement' signals even further.

We're proud to have our Superbooth 2018 content sponsored by www.thonk.co.uk"

Frap Tools Falistri - complex oscillator "first patch"

Published on Jan 31, 2019 DivKidVideo

"So here's my first patch with the Falistri from Frap Tools. It's always nice to share my literal first patch and experience with modules before doing more in-depth demos and explanations. This first patch is using both function generators in looping mode, at audio rates, to create a dual oscillator and complex oscillator series of sounds. The Ring Mod and VCA section below takes normalled versions of the oscillator outputs and I have FM patched between both oscillators (function generators as oscillators) for some cross mod / x mod."

New Frap Tools Falistri Eurorack Module at SUPERBOOTH18

via STROMKULT

"This year at Superbooth18, Frap Tools presents a new movement manager. It is a function generator with lots of interesting features. The Falistri is a full analog multipurpose trajectory manager designed to generate and process voltages.

A big improvement over other function generators is the fact that you can change the shape of the envelope without changing the time – times are independent from shapes which can be different for each stage, for each generator. Thus you can really use it as an oscillator without altering the pitch when you change the shape of rise and fall.

The module can be divided in two big parts: in the upper two third of the panel take place tow specular function generators, while the lower third is composed by a dual cascaded frequency divider, a linear slew limiter and a four quadrant multiplier.

Both manual button and external trigger/gate input are available, and are used in three possible play modes. In the loop mode, where end of fall stage triggers the start of rise, incoming triggers are not needed, but if present reset the rise. In transient mode only the low-to-high transition of the trigger/gate signal is used to start the rise stage while the fall stage is automatically recalled at the end of rise. In sustained mode, the low-to-high transition of the trigger/gate signal is used to start the rise stage, while the fall stage is triggered by the high-to-low transition of the trigger/gate signal. A Gate input for switching from Loop to Transient mode and vice versa is also available on the module.

Thanks to a Quadrature mode (Q) you will be able to combine both function generators, connecting various stages together.

There are two function editors : cascaded frequency dividers and a four quadrant multiplier.

Each of the frequency dividers, also known as flipflop or sub-octave processor, changes its logic state each time a low to high transition is performed. The two sections are normalled so you can achieve 1/2 and 1/4 outputs from a single input which is very handy. This works as a sub-octave generator if an audio signal is used. With a clock at the input it works as a clock divider.

Furthermore, there is a four quadrant multiplier section with an exceptional linearity and a bandwidth from DC to more than 20 kHz. This can be used as a ring modulator or as a VCA with linear CV response. Thanks to the four led matrix, you can see which of the quadrant is currently in use.

Finally, there is a linear slew limiter which can process any voltage. With independent rise and fall slew rates, you can precisely smooth any kind of voltage transition.

Wiggly LFOs on the BRENSO (credit: Make Noise)

video upload by Frap Tools

"When we saw this video on Make Noise's channel, we thought it was a great patch! [posted here]

So we wanted to recreate it on the BRENSO oscillator and use this technique in a different context. Basically, we're using an offset to throw the yellow oscillator at sub-audio rate and use the timbre modulation section to create some weird-shaped LFOs. We further expanded it through FUMANA, USTA, and FALISTRI.

Thanks again Walker and @MAKEN0ISEMUSIC for the inspiring patch!

Flip Sync+tons of CV=groove!

video upload by Frap Tools

"In this patch, we set the green oscillator to Flip Sync, then we used the USTA sequencer to control the integration time, creating a varying glide effect. Then, we used FALISTRI to change its pitch as well, creating these snappy sync sweeps. Thanks to Oliver for suggesting this patch in our workshops!"
