For this modification I mounted a DIY MIDI controller inside Gotharman's Tiny LD granular synthesizer workstation, to give me more knobs, switches and a light dependent resistor (LDR), so that I won't need to lug around an external MIDI controller and more cables. This VLOG also compares the Tiny LD to the bigger Little deFormer 3 a little bit."

Gotharman's Tiny LD: Chill Sample-Based Beat // #TTNM

"I've been watching a lot of Accurate Beats' YouTube videos lately and listened to tons of Brock Berrigan on top of that, so I got in the mood to try out some sample-based beat making on Gotharman's Tiny LD. This was a fun test run! I'm usually more into the experimental side of the Little Deformer 3's smaller sister here, but it worked really nicely as a strange Akai MPC substitute as well.

The main sample was recorded and edited on my iPad in iMPC Pro 2 (not really a big fan of this app to be honest, but it got the job done). I then transferred the WAV file with some additional royalty free 808 drum samples to the Tiny LD with a USB stick. Since the main sample was already looping nicely, I could chop it up automatically on the Tiny LD. Then I used Chop-Keyboard mode to spread the chops over the keyboard keys and keep them all inside a single 'part'. Drums were the already mentioned 808 samples and the Bass and Synths are internal sound engines. The rest is the usual Gotharman sequencing, morphing and effects then :)

The Tiny LD is the small version of Gotharman's Little deFormer 3 synth & sampler workstation. It runs the same operating system and offers the same features, but with fewer physical controls and expansion options. The small size make it a nicely portable, yet super deep, granular synth all-in-one instrument.

For this jam session I created various synth, noise and drum sounds with the internal digital synth engines of the Tiny LD. I added some of its internal effects and then partly re-sampled the outcome and put it back together in a granularized fashion :D

Gotharman Releases the Tiny LD

You might recall the recent demos of Gotharman's Tiny LD, posted over the last few days. The new mini synth featuring the full specs of their Little deFormer 3 granular workstation is now ready for release.

Details via Gotharman:

"16 part, 8 stereo voices tiny granular music workstation, with synthesizes, samplers, sequencer, granular effects and analog filter and CV options.

A new tiny deFormer that runs the full LD3 firmware, with some limitations:
-Less buttons and knobs.
-Less sample memory (43 minutes).
-Less analog options -Only one filterboard connector, no CV ins/outs and no extra audio ins/outs.

It has 16 parts. Each part can be selected to start with either a morphable multi waveform oscillator, a sampler or a noise generator.
The signal from this goes into 2 multimode (16 modes) resonant filters, and ends up in a VCA.
Each part has a chomatic note range of 10 octaves. Parts can be splitted over a keyboard and/or be set up multi-timbrally, with each their own MIDI channel and key range.

Each part can be sent to one or two of its 8 audio busses.

Effects can be applied to these busses, up to 10 at a time, to process the synth/sampler parts.

An optional analog filterboard can also be applied to the audio busses, for real analog processing.

The sequencer comes with 16 advanced note tracks and 32 controller/CC tracks.
For each note on the note tracks, it is possible to set note, gate time, velocity and even position of the step, which allows for polyphonic step sequencing and rhythmic experiments.
At the output of each note track, a scale function are applied, that can force all notes into harmonic scales, or switch notes around for musical deforming. The note track can be up to 64 steps long, and resolution can be set between 1/64 and 1/2.
The controller tracks can be up to 128 steps long, and their resolution can also be set between 1/64 and 1/2. They appear as modulation source for all parameters, that can be modulated.
The sequencer can control both the internal parts of Tiny LD and external MIDI gear.
Templates are available to create a startpoint for a sequence and to modify existing sequences.
16 track audio track recording is also possible with the Tiny LD sequencer. Each audio track can be automatically chopped, for easy deforming."

Gotharman's Dual Line SSI2140 VCF for Tiny LD

"The Dual SSI2140 filterboard has 2 analog multimode filters. Each of these filters can be assigned to their own Audio Bus, doubling the Tiny LD analog filter power!

Each of the filters has 4 filter blocks. By combining these blocks, using VCA’s, it is possible to obtain a number of different filter modes.
It comes with 25 pre-programmed filter types, but it is also possible to adjust these, to obtain an even wider range of filter types.
If different filter types are selected for morph layer A and B, it will morph between the filter types.

Please note that your Tiny LD must have the VCF connector MkII installed, in order for this to work. All Tiny LD MkII’s, that were ordered with a VCF connector, has this connector installed. Later MkI’s might also have this installed. Please check on your receipt. The price of the MkII connector is currently EUR 170, while the MkI connector costed EUR 150. If your Tiny LD has the MkI VCF connector installed, and you would like to use it with the new dual line filter, it can be upgraded at Gotharman’s for the price difference."

Gotharman’s LD3 Percussion Synthesizer Update for Little deformer 3 and Tiny LD Now Available

"Gotharman’s has today released a Percussion Synthesizer for Little deformer 3 and Tiny LD, with 4 new percussion oscillators.

Percussion oscillator1: 2 percussion waves, that can be detuned and modulated by FM noise and any other LD3/Tiny LD modulation source. Modulation of an Atk (Attack) parameter with an envelope, simulates the strike of the drum. Optimized for kicks, snares and noise sounds.

Percussion oscillator2: Same as 1, but modulated by squared FM noise. Optimized for analog style hi hats and cymbals.

Percussion oscillator3: 2 percussion waves, that ring modulates each other, and that can be detuned and modulated by FM noise and any other LD3/Tiny LD modulation source. Modulation of an Atk (Attack) parameter with an envelope, simulates the strike of the drum. Optimized for hi hats, toms and bell type sounds.

Cymbal oscillator: A small group of square wave oscillators modulates each other (in FM range) to create complex sounds like cymbals and metallic noises.

The Percussion Synthesizer add-on are included in trial mode in the latest update (fully functional, but save disabled), and can be un-locked for EUR 149,-"

"Here you go, Anthony! Finally a Gotharman synth jam with the PolySpaze front and center! Well ... a little to the left at least. But all synth sounds are coming from that polyphonic digital-analog hybrid synthesizer. The drums are from the SpazeDrum and one tiny percussion sound comes from the Tiny LD too, which also does the PolySpaze MIDI sequencing. That was a lot more fun to me than 'playing' with a keyboard :D"

Gotharman Releases Little deFormer 3 and Tiny LD Updates

Available at Gotharman's Musical Instruments, the update adds new resonator oscillators, smooth oscillators and microtuning. You can find demos here: New Oscillators, Resonators, Microtuning. Also see Gotharman's LD3: Color Of The Sky. Currently you can find all the demos and more on the first page for the Gotharman label. Posting the individual links for future reference as new Gotharman posts are sure to go up and make them more difficult to find in the archives.

Update 11.62 Details:

-New oscillator types: Smooth oscillators and Resonator oscillators.

-The 2 new oscillator types can be microtuned per key in an octave.

-More oscillator modulation destinations: Extra pitch modulation, Reso, Sample length and Portamento.

-Monophonic trigger system improved.

-Output Effects gain can now be adjusted.

Bug fixes:

-If linear envelopes were used, with different settings for each part, sometimes the settings of each part would interfere with each other, i.e. long attacks would appear on parts, that it was not supposed to. This has now been fixed.
