New Moog Muse 8 Voice Polyphonic Analog Synthesizer in the Works?

New Moog Keyboard Synth Spotted at Usher's Super Bowl Halftime Show?

Update: some details shared online follow. It appears to be a translation from an online shop that had it listed with an MSRP of 47380 Kroner which currently comes to $4,384.62 USD. Note I have no way of verifying the price or the following is legit, so take it all with a grain of salt. Also all but the 1st pic have been updated with slightly larger versions, but they are still pretty blurry.

That said, here's the info shared elsewhere online:

"Meet Muse, an eight-voice analog bi-timbral polyphonic synthesizer — the culmination of over 5 years of dreams, design, and passion. Muse is an intuitive and powerful instrument built on the rich history of Moog that simultaneously gazes boldly into the future. This studio or performance centerpiece is driven by eight analog voices, each with two VCOs, modulation VCO, dual VCFs, and a stereo VCA — all with that...

We've selected the very best of vintage Moog circuits to create Muse – inspired by Moog Voyager oscillators, MF-102 Ring Modulator, CP3 Mixer, 902 VCA module, and a 904A Filter. With 16 banks of 16 patches, you'll encounter beautiful pads, organic FM plucks, attention-grabbing leads, subterranean basses, stage-oriented key splits, as well as 2 banks reserved for your own sonic discoveries.

CP3-style saturating mixer per-voice with Ring Mod, Noise, and either clean or saturated mix; Dual discrete transistor ladder VCFs per-voice with switchable routing configurations; Stereo discrete transistor VCA per-voice per patch.

Dual discrete transistor ladder VCFs per-voice with switchable routing configurations; Stereo discrete transistor VCA per-voice based on the Moog 902 Module. Dual ADSR envelopes per-voice with variable curves, looping, velocity response, and assignable to any destination; Two LFOs with unique waveshapes, dedicated Pitch LFO, and 16 per-voice triggered Random Generators - all routed via 16 modulation slots per-timbre, per-patch

Bi-timbrality and Voice Control: two independent timbres per-patch can be stacked or split across the keyboard; Advanced arpeggiator with rhythmic programming, expanded patterns, and generative behavior; Chord Memory with programmable per-key chord shapes; 64-step sequencer with Clock Division, Transport controls, Sequence chaining, Step editing, Modulation capabilities, and memory capacity of 16 banks of 16 sequences...

Moog Muse Firmware v1.4 Update

video uploads by Moog Music

Playlist:

1. Muse | New Global Modulation
In this video, we explore how to access the new global modulation options added to Muse's MOD MAP in v1.4 firmware.

Firmware v1.4 introduces a wealth of new modulation options: six new global modulation sources (two global LFOs, two global envelopes, and two global random trigger sources) and 23 new modulation destinations—including the much-requested ability to modulate every delay parameter, down to each individual character function.

These new options exponentially expand the sound design possibilities on Muse, opening the door to entirely new sonic landscapes and microcosms to explore.

2. Muse | Per-Timbre Sequencer Probability
In this video, we explore how to use the new per-timbre probability options added to Muse's sequencer in the new v1.4 firmware.

While firmware v1.4 expands Muse's sequencer capabilities in many ways—perhaps the most powerful enhancement is the ability to dial in different generative behaviors per timbre. This enables incredibly deep and detailed methods of introducing probability into your compositions, allowing Muse's sequencer to act as an improvisational partner.

Randomness is a powerful tool for adding surprise and movement to your music, and Muse's sequencer offers a compelling way to incorporate interesting musical twists and turns into your exploration of sound and compositional form.
3. Muse | Dynamic Chorus
In this video, we explore how to use some of the new features in Muse firmware version v1.4 to create dynamic chorus and interactive diffusion patches.

Muse firmware v1.4 allows for modulation of all parameters of the DIFFUSION DELAY using the six new global modulation sources. We first look at how to create a basic chorus sound by using short delay times in the DIFFUSION DELAY and modulating the delay times very gently using the global LFOs.

(Note that PITCH-SHIFT should be selected as the time mode in the DIFFUSION DELAY "More" menu to enable pitch artifacts reminiscent of those found on beloved analog BBD or tape delays.)

We also look at how to integrate Muse’s expressive controls, such as the Mod Wheel, keyboard Aftertouch, and Macro knob to control various parameters of both chorusing and diffusion. A twist on our patch uses the global envelope generators to increase the chorusing rate over the duration of our notes, which will function differently depending on if multi-trig is enabled or disabled for the global envelopes.
4. Muse | Fading Modulation
In this video, we explore how to use some of the new features in Muse firmware version v1.4 to create modulation routings that fade over the course of a note’s duration.

Muse firmware v1.4 introduces a handful of new functions to the MOD MAP which allow you to fade in or out a modulation routing over time. We take a modulation routing that uses global LFO 1 to modulate both delay times in the DIFFUSION DELAY and apply the new fade functions to fade the chorus effect over time.

FADE A fades the modulation in from the onset of a note, while FADE D fades modulation out from the start of a note. FADE R sustains the modulation routing for as long as a note is held and then fades it out when notes are released. Finally, FADE AR applies both an attack and release envelope to the modulation, combining our fade in/out behavior into one handy function. For all fading functions, the amount sets the time of the fade from shorter to longer.
5. Muse | LFO Envelope Mode
In this video, we explore how to use the envelope mode added to Muse's LFOs in the v1.4 firmware.

Firmware v1.4 introduces a bevy of new features to Muse, unlocking countless exciting modulation possibilities. LFO envelope mode is one powerful addition that allows the LFOs to behave more like an envelope.

When you press a key, the LFO will run through a single cycle of its waveform and then pause. When combined with some of the unique user waves found in LFOs 1 and 2 (and now global LFOs 1 and 2, as well), envelope mode enables a wide range of new, key-triggered movements to enhance your sound design experience with Muse.

Moog Muse and the unfortunate case of some mildly dodgy waveforms?

video upload by Tim Shoebridge

"In this video I compare the basic waveforms on my Moog Muse with another Moog synth (a Matriarch) to illustrate some potential issues I am having with my particular unit. Do you have any of the issues I describe? Have you needed to contact Moog support for assistance with your Muse and, if so, what was the outcome? I'd love to hear your experiences."

Update: and a response:

The waveforms on my Moog Muse looks fine to me

video upload by TjimmyChonga

"I came across this video by Tim Shoebridge where we showed that on his Moog Muse, the waveforms are all out of whack. I haven't noticed anything of the kind, so I decided to take a look at mine."

Published on May 4, 2019 Waveshaper Media

B4. Max Brand - Triptych (1969)
B5. Paul Earls - Monday Music (1968)

In support of their forthcoming Bob Moog documentary Electronic Voyager, Waveshaper Media have produced a compilation LP of Moog recordings from the 1960s. The first compilation of its kind, Electronic Voyages: Early Moog recordings 1964-1969 contains tracks by Robert Arthur Moog, Herbert Deutsch, Joel Chadabe, Lothar and the Hand People, Intersystems, Ruth White, Max Brand, and Paul Earls. All of these tracks, released here on vinyl in an edition of 1000 copies, have been scarcely heard and difficult to track down, with all but three of them previously unreleased on vinyl.

Bypassing the Moog synthesizer’s backseat appearance on key pop recordings by the likes of the Beatles, the Doors, and the Beach Boys, Electronic Voyages aims to highlight the diverse approach of 1960s musicians and composers who adopted the Moog as their primary instrument; these recordings all feature the Moog synthesizer front and centre. Beginning with an “audio letter” (The Abominatron) from Bob Moog to his musician-muse Herbert Deutsch, demonstrating some of the first Moog synthesizer prototype’s capabilities, Electronic Voyages veers from avant-garde and electronic soundscapes, to psychedelic madness and summer-of-love pop. In the 1960s, the Moog synthesizer was a new, groundbreaking instrument, and its use was completely uncharted territory. The pioneering use of the Moog on all of these recordings sounds fresh today - you can sense the wide-eyed exploratory delight unfolding, and the disparate results range from endearingly naive (Lothar and the Hand People, Paul Earls) to downright eerie (Ruth White, Intersystems).

The musicians and composers behind these Electronic Voyages may have been among the first to adopt Moog synthesizers, but the fact that they so readily found within them expressivity, heart, and a means to translate their wondrous sense of discovery, speaks far more to Bob Moog’s visionary invention and enduring legacy."

Update: Playlist of releases in different order:

Robert Arthur Moog - The Abominatron (1964) - from "Electronic Voyages" LP
Ruth White - The Clock (1969) - from "Electronic Voyages: Early Moog recordings 1964-1969" LP

Lothar and the Hand People - Milkweed Love (1968) - from "Electronic Voyages" LP
Joel Chadabe - Blues Mix (1968) - from "Electronic Voyages: Early Moog recordings 1964-1969" LP

Moog Muse Sequencer Arpeggio Combination

video upload by Nightlife Electronics

"The Moog Muse has a very complex and fully featured step sequencer. It also has a really fun arpeggiator and the great thing is that you can use these at the same time to create interesting interactions and variations to your sequence. You can even record directly into the sequencer from the arpeggiator!

Here the Muse is playing a simple patch that is given some help from the amazing sounding stereo diffusion delay.

You can check out Moog Muse (and a ton of other amazing synth gear) at Nightlife Electronics in Vancouver BC or right here on the world wide web: https://nightlife-electronics.com"

The Soul of Moog One: Custom Sounds

video upload by Synth Universe

"A musical exploration of Moog One featuring custom-created patches from five years of owning and using this monster synth.

Does it have a characteristic sound? What are its sweet spots? How does its sound compare to the Moog Muse? I hope this video will help to answer those questions.

With the Moog One discontinued and the release of the Moog Muse, I figured it was a good time to make these videos. The Moog One has at times been misunderstood and maligned. It didn't offer the sonic 'instant gratification' of some other classic synths because in a way it's in a category all by itself. It takes time to figure out how to get the best out of it, but when you do, it's one of the most powerful, musically rewarding and inspiring synths ever made.

All the sounds you hear in this video were created by me on the Moog One 16 voice and include poly synths, pads, strings, ambient, soundscapes, keys, brasses, leads, bass and chimes.

Any effects you hear on the sounds in this video are internal to Moog One. I mainly use delay and reverb and several patches use no FX at all. I generally do not use the chorus and modulation effects as they colour the sound too much (in fact my main use of the chorus effect is set at 0% mix to add gain to patches). No external processing was applied.

*** If you are a Moog One owner, all the sounds in this video and many more will soon be available to purchase as part of the Synth Universe Moog One Sound Banks."

Sound Exploration: Moog Muse, Microcosm, Digitakt, and Chroma Console

video upload by Hologram Electronics

"This video explores a particular sonic palette we drummed up using the Moog Muse + Microcosm, Digitakt, and finally Chroma Console. The theme of these sounds is constant movement, aided by Microcosm's HOLD SAMPLER and Chroma Console's GESTURE recording feature.

The sound starts with a synthesizer, specifically a relatively simple patch built on the Moog Muse. We explore how feeding seemingly contextless musical material into Microcosm can be transformed into a new source of inspiration/musical accompaniment. The musical motifs created by Microcosm are then further altered using Chroma Console's GESTURE feature, a process that allows us to record and loop the interesting moments that result from turning knobs.

Hopefully, this video serves to demonstrate the type of role our pedals can play in both writing and performance contexts. Thanks for stopping by!"
