Future-Retro VECTRA Giveaway

Future-Retro is having a drawing to give a way a VECTRA on Oct 1st.

You can find full details on how to enter on their site here: https://future-retro.com/vectra-giveaway/

"The Vectra is a unique hybrid synthesizer with a flexible architecture that allows many different forms of synthesis to be realized. It’s the best of both worlds… The Vectra utilizes digital oscillators, ring modulators, noise sources, vector mixer, LFO’s, complex envelopes, and modulation routings providing many capabilities that would be very difficult to produce with analog circuitry alone. This allows for accurate tuning, repeatability of complex patches, and patch storage. The Vectra also provides a multi-mode analog filter, VCA, and final output, as these provide the best sonic qualities.
The Vectra includes a powerful and fun sequencer and arpeggiator, with many new capabilities. Although the Vectra is a self contained instrument, MIDI can be used to interface with other devices."

You can find a few demos of the Future-Retro VECTRA in previous posts here.

The Touring Musician's Dream Synth? +GIVEAWAY (USA)

video upload by HAINBACH

"Thanks to @PerfectCircuit for sponsoring this video and giving away an OP-1 Field to one of my treasured viewers (US residents only). Follow the instructions in this link (live at 10 AM Pacific) to enter the contest: https://bit.ly/3gL5AI5

I did not like the OP-1 Field at first glance. I travelled around the world with my ten year old battered original OP-1 and played it in countless shows, songs, and soundtracks. I used it like a Swiss Army knife - at home I have instruments that do each individual job better, but on the road the OP-1 is a wonderful combination of tools. It became one of my most important instruments. When the newest iteration came around it felt strange - I was very attached to my OP-1, so I did not want to give the Field a real chance. But when I took it with me on tour and travels over the past months, that changed."

David Rosenthal, Billy Joel's keyboardist/musical director, talks about the 2022 summer raffle Mini

"The Minimoog raffled in 2022 isn’t just signed by an icon: It belonged to Billy Joel’s musical director, a musician of note in his own right – keyboardist, synth programmer, and orchestrator David Rosenthal, formerly of Rainbow, who has toured with Cyndi Lauper, Robert Palmer, and Enrique Iglesias, programmed synths for Bruce Springsteen, and also worked with Happy the Man, Steve Vai and Red Dawn.
Video recorded at Strange Cranium in NYC.

"This summer, somebody's going to win a fully restored, vintage Minimoog signed by Billy Joel.

It's a good month when Tom Oberheim joins your team of supporters, and Billy Joel signs your Minimoog. It's still pretty crazy out there, but with Tom, Billy, and a network of supporters engaging in our mission to inspire people of all ages through the intersection of science, music, and technology, we feel ready to take on the world.

This vintage beauty belonged to Billy Joel's long-time keyboardist and musical director, David Rosenthal, who took it on tour with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow in the 1980s.

Somebody's going to win it for the cost of a raffle ticket."

In celebrating the 90th birthday of pioneering synthesist Herb Deutsch, the Bob Moog Foundation is excited to announce its fundraising raffle for a fully-restored vintage Minimoog Model D signed by the legend himself.

The Minimoog featured is serial number 11,535, built at Moog Music’s Cheektowaga, NY factory during the late 1970s. It has an estimated value of $10,000. Due to the highly coveted nature of this archetypal synthesizer, and the iconic signature from Herb Deutsch, it is likely to increase in value. This Minimoog has been meticulously restored by revered synthesizer technician Wes Taggart of Analogics, who also crafted its new custom walnut cabinet enclosure. It is in excellent technical and physical condition.

The raffle begins on February 9th, to commemorate Deutsch’s 90th birthday, and serves as an homage to his seminal contributions to the Moog legacy. It ends on March 7, 2022, 11:59pm ET, or when all 4,500 tickets sell out, whichever comes first. Tickets are $20 each, six for $100, 14 for $200, or 40 for $500.

Novation & Sequential Synth Bundle Giveaway

via Novation, where you can enter for a chance to win the giveaway:

"We've teamed up with our Focusrite Group family member, Sequential, to bring you the ultimate synth and controller bundle worth over $1,900 USD.

(1) Novation Launchkey 37 [MK3]
(1) Novation Circuit Tracks
(1) Sequential Prophet Rev2 8 Voice desktop synth

Launchkey is Novation's intuitive and fully integrated MIDI keyboard controller for making tracks in a DAW and with external hardware, designed to give you everything you need to create and play your music. Made for creators of all abilities, Launchkey gives you inspirational tools to expand your musical vocabulary. Scale and Chord Modes and a powerful arpeggiator push your musical creativity and help start new ideas. Custom Modes and a full-size MIDI output transform Launchkey into a powerful centrepiece of any music-making setup.

Circuit Tracks is the agile groovebox for creating and performing electronic music without resistance. Two refined polyphonic digital synth tracks expand your sonic capabilities, and samples across four drums tracks can be loaded via microSD and shaped to perfection. Builtin FX polish your sounds. Two dedicated MIDI tracks and a built-in battery make it ideal for multi-device setups and for creators on the move.

A modern classic reinvented. The Prophet Rev2 desktop module by Sequential is just as powerful and easy to use as its counterpart, the Prophet Rev2 keyboard. The module has the same controls with the same ease of use as the keyboard version. Best of all, it sounds just as awesome, because it’s exactly the same on the inside — Dave Smith’s reimagining of his now-classic Prophet ’08 poly synth. The Prophet Rev2 retains all of the key features of the Prophet ’08 and expands on them. It has twice the polyphony, twice the mod matrix, waveshape modulation on all waveforms, digital effects per layer in stacked or split voice mode, a polyphonic step sequencer per layer, and more. The result is a true analogue powerhouse.

This giveaway ends September 14th and is available to participants with a US mailing address only.

Analog Mafia RC-808 “Drum Rap” Contest

The following is in via Analog Mafia. You can find details on the contest here.

"RC-808 is a drum synth that can do the rap all by itself. In another words, we will go back to the days of the talking drums. It would be great if you could have a listen to the files.

Giving articulation ability to drum sequencers was actually a part of the Roland history ever since Don Lewis connected an expression pedal to add volume level accent to give variation to a primitive preset patterned rhythm box. This lead Mr Kakehashi to implement "Accent" as a parameter of rhythm machines.

When Mr Kikumoto designed programmable drum sequencers and MIDI protocols, he wondered why the sequencers onboard drum machines don't have any pitch nor duration parameters. Because they are non-tuned percussion? But then synths can provide frequency and envelope curves to match your needs and tastes. Isn't this lack of these parameters result of prejudices or stereo types that still confines the drum sound expressions to a certain notion only?

This is the reason why the RC-808 Standalone edition has a small piano roll style sequencer. With full fledged general purpose 8 partial synth engines per instruments, you can create both tuned and sustained sounds that can be used for percussive purposes. For instance, this offers "open and close" sound variation to not just hi-hats but to any other instrument you can imagine, like "open and close bass drum" you hear on the demo files here.

Recently, as Kikumoto san was reviewing HipHop and Rap music, he found rappers' rhyme and flow concept somewhat resembling his RC-808 concept of providing further expression to drum sounds.

Inspired with the rhyme and flow concept, he is thinking of expanding this scheme to shed new light to drum sound expression, not just to hiphop and rap, but to all kinds of music genre, with a concept of Drum Rap like MC talking drum so to say."
