Runningonair - Sometimes (Music Video)

video upload by Runningonair

New bitterweet track by supporting member, Runningonair.

---------------------------
Warning! Adult Language included!
---------------------------

I started this project as a demo for the Wasp synthesizer, but as usual it developed into a full blown track. It's inspired by some of the darker emotions, those moment where someone says just the wrong thing and pushes exactly the right button. I've include Fortnite footage, which often inspires strong feels and meltdowns. Seemed appropriate.

Runningonair - Wonders of the Modern Age

Published on May 18, 2020 Runningonair

"In the tradition of 'Koyaanisqatsi' and the spirit of 'The future ain’t what it was', 'Wonders of the Modern Age' is a tongue in cheek reflection on some of the new found optimism present in the 1990s after the end of the cold war and before the gradual realisation of humanity's impact on the environment.

All video is from 1994 or before and all sounds come from the Roland SC-7 sound canvas module released in 1992.

4 Track Tapes 85-86 by Runningonair

A new collection from supporting member Runningonair. Check out the 4 Track Tape Restoration videos below!

"The title, “4 track tapes 85-86”, might suggest a direct lift, clean up and remaster, but this is far from the truth. Comprising of a selection of musical sketches and demos, the material on the tapes was never intended for release.

Instead, the tapes have been languishing in storage for around 30 years. However in 2017, concerns about the
longevity of the originals lead to transferring to digital. This was the first time I had heard the material for many years; I was surprised by how many of the tracks I remembered and by how much I liked them. It really felt like discovering a treasure trove. Yes, it’s all early stuff, poorly performed and lo-fi sound but without pretention. Naïve really. At the time I wasn’t really listening to much pop music and so there was minimal influences from that area. Although the
tapes were littered with performance mistakes the sound has an almost clinical quality at times, typical of early digital synths.

When I considered turning the material into a functioning album, I wanted to find a balance between the authenticity of the original and potential gains of current music technology. I did this by setting certain boundaries, the most important being only material from the original tapes could be used.

While performance mistakes could be fixed relatively easily, the lack of drum tracks was a bigger problem. At the time I didn’t have a drum machine and would instead resort to banging a few tin cans to try to get some form of percussion part. This rarely worked. Of course, true authenticity would demand I didn’t add anything new, but I felt it really needed the lift drums could bring. Fortunately, I did occasionally get brief drum machine loans from various sources and recordings of these were on the same tapes in the form of unfinished tracks. From these sound sources I constructed sympathetic drum parts, attempting to create something that I could have done at the time.

Additionally, I allowed myself the luxury of enhancing the sound quality within certain limits, essentially sticking to basic EQ, reverb and stereo widening.

Although the enhancements have changed the character of the tracks greatly, certain key ingredients remain; the
wonky ever-changing tempos and improvisational playing remain intact, and they still feel like the original tracks, although they do sound richer. I’m sure the younger me would have wanted to go much further."

Runningonair - Ceres (Music Video)

video upload by Runningonair

New track from supporting member Runningonair. https://runningonair.bandcamp.com/

https://open.spotify.com/artist/5fNUf...

"As the first track in a larger Sci-Fi music project, 'Ceres' focuses on the dwarf planet of the same name as a possible agricultural hub for the outer solar system. The soundscape is clearly influenced by early Vangelis, in particular the blade runner OST, this is intentional, as I want the full work to draw on cyberpunk, synthwave and soundtrack sources.

It took some time to find the right approach to completing the video, while I have some knowledge working with graphics and video, creating an entire Ceres based civilisation resplendent with vast solar panels arrays and purple LED illuminated green houses, was way beyond my skill level, not to say anything of the time involved. Instead, I have settled for video of Ceres’ current state, overlaying regimented crops colour corrected for the afore mentioned LEDs. The star fields, as usual, convey best the enormity of space, but also, in this case, the aspiration that at some point humans can achieve these remarkable feats. Whether the result will be for the benefit of many, we can at the least hope for a beautiful dystopia.

Yamaha SY35 FM/AWM Synthesizer - Part 2 - Overview

video upload by Runningonair

Yamaha SY35 FM/AWM Synthesizer Runningonair posts

"In this video I take an overview and run through the functions of the Yamaha SY35 synthesizer.

I also created an accompanying track, which just uses sounds from the SY35 (plus a vocal sample). The majority of effects are from the SY35 too. I have added compression and EQ, as well as doing a basic mastering job.

Let me know what you think of the synth in comments. I've been pleasantly surprised by it! I'll get into programming in the next video.

Runningonair - QY (Music Video)

video upload by Runningonair

"QY is born out of an experiment to create a Synthwave track using only the Yamaha QY10 sound module as a sound source. The track was released earlier in 2022 on the album B.A.U., which you can find here:

https://runningonair.bandcamp.com/alb...

The QY10 was released in 1990 and I therefore wanted the video to reflect that with film from the same time. The game video is from Outrun (1986), which has been cited as a Synthwave influence but it also fits well with the driving video."

Runningonair - Conspiracy Theory (Music Video)

Runningonair

"Runningonair - Conspiracy Theory (Music Video)

In this synthwave inspired track, I delve into the mental process of the conspiracy theorist. It's important to recognise that there's a bit conspiracy theorist in of all of us and if left unchecked, it can lead us to some pretty dark and dangerous conclusions.

All video animations by 'Royaltyfreetube'. Many thanks for taking the time to create these amazing videos and freely sharing them.
