Roland Jupiter-X: The Vocoder: Quick Sounds

Published on Mar 17, 2020 MR TUNA Music

"Found the vocoder on the Jupiter-X today and here we are.
WOW. What a sound. It's honestly the best (and clearest) sound Ive gotten from a vocoder in my studio and definitely beats out the System-8 for it's polyphony count and awesome effects.
There are only two vocoder presets built into the JP-X with very limited control (cutoff, resonance, high pass, vibrato, and amp envelope), but the effects really shine, and layer voices on top of each other in mono really had me going.
Check it out"

Hanging out in Mr. Tuna's Studio

Published on Mar 14, 2020 Machiwoomiapoo

Three videos in the playlist. The first has left channel audio only. The 2nd and 3rd are both L & R.

"I went to Mr. Tuna's studio today to check out his layout. It was really nice to get to know him and his set up and how he uses it. I am simply amazed at all the gear that he was able to hook up and use at the same time. I always enjoy his live jam sessions."

Jupiter-X vs. System-8: The Jupiter-8 Engine *No Talking*

Published on Mar 8, 2020 MR TUNA Music

"Its the showdown you've been waiting for! Two amazing synths, both vying for the number one spot of King Jupiter Clone..... but which will reign supreme? How will we even know without a real JP-8 to compare against? Perhaps this is all in vain. Perhaps we've all wasted our time. But maybe, just maybe, the debate between these two synthesizers is more than an age old question... more than the sum of their sounds. Is it wrong to love two synths? Is it beautiful to appreciate their differences? Or to stare into the mirror and see not yourself, but all of your possibilities and potentials like a trillion different realities folding onto each other like thin sheets of metal forming a single blade??

This is Jupiter vs. Jupiter. Or IS IT????"

New Jupiter-X vs. Vintage Juno-106: PATCH MATCH™ **No Talking**

Published on Mar 3, 2020 MR TUNA Music

"Doing my best to recreate as-close-to-identical patches as I can manage on the new Roland Jupiter-X and the original Juno-106 to show off any noticeable differences between the two. Certainly the Jupiter-X is a much more capable tool with a lot of sound-design and power packed into a modern digital instrument; but for this comparison I will specifically focus on the pre-loaded Juno-106 engine included from the factory.
There are no added effects or processing other than the that of the famous Juno chorus function-- which you'll know immediately by their tell-tale noise machines. (You can turn this setting down or off entirely on the JP-X)

It's an exciting new episode of PATCH MATCH (from scratch!)™"

New Jupiter-X vs. Vintage JX-8P Comparing Stock Patches: Analog or Digital?

Published on Feb 25, 2020 MR TUNA Music

"The new Roland Jupiter-X contains approximations of their famous vintage hardware synths including the JX-8P. Many of the JX-8P stock patches have been recreated on the JP-X, and I have had requests to compare them directly-- so let's do it! No doubt there's some big differences here, but in my opinion the Jupiter definitely manages to pull off that classic 8P vibe.

There are no added effects or processing to either the JX or the JP, although the 'Juno Chorus' in the master effects section of the X remains on throughout the comparison."

Roland Jupiter-X | First Impressions & Sounds From Scratch

Published on Feb 21, 2020 MR TUNA Music

"Just got my hands on the new Roland Jupiter-X and I wanted to get a jump on some videos right away, so here's my first impressions and some sounds from scratch using the included Jupiter-8 engine and some of the built-in effects.

There's lots more worth touching base on that I hope to cover in later videos, but for now, know this thing is a TANK. It's a serious upgrade over the System-8 build quality-wise and the keys are some of the best I've ever played (which is very important to me! {duh!}).

Otherwise, keep in mind this is essentially a pre-release unit and as such I don't have a manual, or any drivers so I'm just sort of figuring it all out as I go, but that being said I will be spending a lot of time trying to figure this thing out and get to the bottom of it all-- So let me know if you have any specific questions I can answer for you."

MR TUNA Music: Why I love the Roland System-8

Published on Jan 9, 2020 MR TUNA Music

"2020 is my year to become a bigger presence in the synth community, starting with this scattered look at what is ultimately my favorite synth-- The Roland System-8 Plug-Out Synthesizer.

Unscripted and unfocused (as always) it's a journey to the center of the synth, with touched-on topics like CV/Gate control, input effects, the many filter options, and MORE!"
