New Yamaha MODX+ w/ AN-X Engine Rumored to be in the Works

You might remember Yamaha recently trademarked the AN-X name.

It looks like the AN-X analog modeling engine first used in the AN1X and later AN200, might be featured in an upcoming MODX+.

"It should be noted that what follows is, for the moment at least, only speculation. Yamaha has not yet released any specifications for the MODX+

The New MODX+ is rumoured to have double the memory of the original MODX. This would bring it into line with the Montage. And a possible increase in polyphony as well as a third synth engine in the form of AN-X.

There is also speculation that the Montage will receive quite a major firmware update which will include the AN-X engine.

Release date is muted to be within the first two weeks of September.

Pricing is expected to be the same as the original MODX."

Not the most powerful synth but I like mine and I like this pic. It has some icy strings and pads. I got mine before the CS2X came out. I also have an AN1X, which is a whole different level. The AN1X is analog modelling and the CS1X is a rompler/PCM sampler based synth. If you come to the site often you likely already know this of course.

New Yamaha AN-X Synth In the Works?

Yamaha filed a tradmark for AN-X this month according to the USPTO. The last Yamaha synths to feature the AN moniker were the AN1X and AN200 virtual analog synths.

"Absolutely all sounds are taken from Yamaha An1x.

I used: FL Studio DAW & Steinberg Cubase 11.0.41 Pro for MIDI.
On several channels I have used Side Chain Effect.
On one channel I used VPS Glitch Bitch VST.
I have not used a compressor on any of the channels.
Only on the master channel I used the limiter.


An1x can synthesize any sounds, including drums. It sounds very diverse, I use it constantly and more often than all other VA Synthesizer. All his sounds fit very well into the mix without any additional processing. It has genius leads, pads and all kinds of sounds from other categories. Despite its age, it makes me happy every day and every day I can extract absolutely any new sounds from it. In this track I used all of my presets from my set JS-Sound - FX Dream Bank3."

Many people often ask me, what do you think about Roland JPxxxx synthesizer, in comparison with АN1X ? I don’t think anything good about him, it’s a matter of personal preference and taste. I had it and I also made a personal opinion about it, a useless, over-praised synthesizer on the net, which supposedly sounded in many tracks of my years. Yes, I went through all this, but unfortunately there are not so many advertisements on the network about АN1X. Roland loved to do advertising for himself and his brand for life. In addition, all sorts of provocateurs and agitators help to glorify Roland 'empty space'. In my eyes, JPxxxx, like Waldorf Kira and Blofeld, are the worst synthesizers I have ever had.

But as I said, people have different tastes and opinions, this synthesizer is a legend for me, I like everything about it, it suits me all, I see no reason not to share the sound of this synthesizer with people."
