RozzBox Shipping to Big City Music

via the Big City Music blog:

"We just got word from Kilian that our RozzBox shipment is leaving Germany today and should arrive by early next week.

Kilian emailed this pic that he shot with his mobile phone just before he packed and sent them to us. The wait will finally be over for those customers who pre-ordered their RozzBox earlier this year."

jhhl.net Sruti Box

"A sruti box or shruti box is a bellows driven harmonium-like instrument that provides a drone, used in Indian music and spiritual practices.

This iPhone application simulates a sruti box with 12 reeds, which can be tuned in various ways, and you pump the bellows by waving the phone. There is a parameter that can be set so you don't have to do this, but I find it adds to the authenticity in a subtle way. SrutiBox provides sets of intervals, timbres and voicing controls to build drones for music, meditation, tuning, and educational purposes."

Theremin Giveaway on The Unusual Times

via The Unusual Times
"In our never ending appreciation for all things unusual, we are proud to announce that TheUnusualTimes.net is giving away a Moog™ Etherwave® Theremin exploration kit, which includes everything you need to play the unusualist of instruments. Invented by Léon Theremin in 1919, the Theremin allows the player to control two radio frequency oscillators via hand position around two antennae. One of the oscillators controls frequency, and the other volume. The electrical signals of the instrument are amplified through an amplifier. If you're not sure what a Theremin sounds like, read about this fascinating instrument or watch this video of a real Theremin virtuoso!"

the elektrocardio midi controller

via rucyl mills
"I built the elektro-07 so I could control the sonic and visual parameters of my live performances without having to look deep into the eye of my laptop, hunched over in computer music stance. I'm still learning how to play it.. Software wise, it runs a maxMSP/Jitter patch smoothly, connected to my laptop by a long usb cable. Major thanks to Luke DuBois. Originally it was named the Chakakhantroller after Chaka Khan... but you wouldn't believe how many people don't get the reference.. so I changed it to Elektro-07 after my newly launched label, Elektrocardio. Next version will be wireless, and yes... it's made of black leather and snakeskin."

Fender Rhodes Chroma Synthesizer Magazin Article and Audio

via Chris Ryan on the Rhodes Chroma list: "This month's addition to the site is the article "Fender Rhodes Chroma" from the May-June 2008 issue of Synthesizer Magazin. Christian Kleine [21030210] kindly translated the article from the original German to English. It's an entertaining read, and four audio demos are included."

Rhythms with the Flame synth.

YouTube via RothHandle
"Last friday one of my machines decided that I needed to spend some more time with the Rhys Marsh track I have been working on so it sort of erased all the names of all of the files and let my try to find them again...I think I might be finished on Thursday.

Anyways I took a short break and messed around with some pedals trying to make a rhythm using the sounds from the flame synth as the base. After the flame synth we have the moogerfooger analog delay and then the murf and then my latest pedal...the teaspoon from the squarewave parade.

This was filmed at the roth händle studios in Stockholm. If you are curious about the studio please visit www.roth-handle.nu"

via the Mediatheque Museum. In Googlish here.

"The copy of the Music Museum was donated in 1993 by the musician Frank Zappa, one of the most famous users of modular and one of the few to be used on stage.

Patrick Gleeson has also used the modular EMU in an impressive system comprising more than 90 oscillators (Rainbow Rising). S'ajoutent à la liste de ses prestigieux utilisateurs Herbie Hancock, John Mac Laughlin, John Adams, Vince Clarke, et le groupe Tangerine Dream.
