TI SN76477 DIY Synth

via this auction
"The SN76477 is a fully loaded synthesizer on a chip. Within its silicon boundaries lie the following functions:

* A Voltage Controlled Square Wave Oscillator
* A Super Low Frequency Oscillator (a fancy term for LFO)
* A VCA-like 'modulator'
* A Sweepable Digital Noise Generator (shift register based)
* A Filter for the Digital Noise Generator
* An Envelope Generator (Attack/Decay)
* A programmable Mixer

Thomas Henry published a design for a controller module, dubbed "The SuperController" based around the SN76477. In this application, the SN76477 was primarily used as a source for syncable gates, triggers, and LFO signals, but it did also feature the sweepable digital noise generator as a signal output.

John Blacet brought the SN76477 into the commercial synthesizer world with his excellent "Dark Star Chaos" module, a discontinued and still much-sought-after design produced by his company, Blacet Research. The DSC2000 took great advantage of the SN76477's capabilities. Its application was for creating sounds ranging from the sublime to the monstrous. One can still read about its functionality on the Blacet history page Blacet Research Cool Old Stuff Page. The SN76477 is also detailed in Wikipedia and many vintage synth sites."

ARP 2500 Modular Synthesizer

"Matrix working and sliders are moving smooth, just like you would expect.

All modules have their Matrix slidercaps, only the blank panels don't. This system requires 110V so the buyer has to use a voltage converter, if the system stays in Europe or if it goes to Australia. Rest of the world is 110V, so no voltage converter needed. This system has serial#75-023. So this one was built in the year 1972.The cabinet is complete metall with wood attached to the sides. The modules in this system are: Dual VCO 1023, Osc 1004-T, Dual Noise/Random Voltage Generator 1016, Dual Envelope 1033, Multimode Filter 1047, Dual Envelope 1033, FiltAmp 1006, Dual Envelope 1003a, ModAmp 1005, Multimode Filter 1047, Power Control 1002. The system does not have a keyboard,but it does have a midi kit installed by a professional, the midi is from Doepfer, model MCV-8. So as this system has midi,you can use any midi controller, or the good old cv/gate."

"This is a system 100 model 101. A monophonic synth that can be used on its own or interfaced with a system 102. The sound and construction is from Roland's 'golden age' when they build synths with the highest quality components. The knobs and sliders have that silky smooth resistance where they feel like they should last 100 years. Subjective opinions: The sound quality could be described as 'pure' and 'powerful' its warm and clear at the same time, the osc sound is very rich and combined with its super fast envelope and wide range vca, proof that you don't need lots of osc to make a big sound. Percussion sounds are possible as well, if you set the env to 0 you can hear an audible click. great zaps and kick drums. The synth is pretty straight forward as a stand alone mono synth, but it still has a few tricks up its sleeve. for example you can patch the vco out into the filter and add a bit of filter fm, or alot to get ring-modulated type sounds with 1 osc. The filter apparently shares some of the design of tb-303, im not sure about this. I can say that it is quite squelchy but still 'vintage sounding' maybe similar to an ems synth for example, in other words, great! There are some high quality audio examples here"
