THE LM13600/LM13700 STORY

You can find the story here. I did a quick search on LM13600 here just to see what might come up. This one post on the KORG MS20 did. I did a search on LM13700 and this one post on the Salamandar synth came up. I'm curious what else used these chips.

"The LM13600 has designed by Bill Gross and myself in less than 5 minutes. At the time the Consumer Linear IC design group was training a new mask designer. We needed something with a few transistors for her to learn how to arrange them in a optimum circuit arrangement while using minimum silicon area."

Synth Surprise in Morrissey's "Last Of The Famous International Playboys"

This one spotted via Gunner:

"I was just taken aback by some synth content in a Morissey video(!) Synth at about 2:40 and for microseconds in a couple other places. Looks like the [Maplin] ETI 4600 "International", which corresponds too nicely with the song title to be incidental."

"This is the ETI 4600 intarnational synthesizer, structure based on Matrix patch panel like EMS VCS-3, AKS.
There are two different ETI 4600 versions: one blackface and the other extremly rare Silver face!
Sound like Space Odyssey ;-)"

Yamaha MDF2 Backlit Display Replacement

via wolzow.mindworks where you'll find the full instructions on replacing the display.

"Yamaha MDF2 is an impressive little piece of gear. It doesn't do much, but it does what it's supposed to do, it's pretty robust and has not failed on me yet. The main problem with it (besides 720K DD floppy disks) is that it's impractical on stage - the 1x16 LCD display does not have backlight. Fortunately, backlit LCDs are very similar to the ones without backlight so an improvement here shouldn't be that difficult."

AKAI PRO MINIAK SYNTHESIZER NOW SHIPPING

"Virtual-Analog Synthesizer with Vocoder Developed in Partnership with Alesis

Cumberland, R.I. (Aug. 27, 2009) – Akai Professional, the name synonymous with music production, announces that the MINIAK, the synthesizer specifically designed for today’s music production and performance styles, is now shipping to retailers.

The MINIAK is a new synthesizer from Akai Professional. It was developed in partnership with the world-renowned Alesis synthesis team. The MINIAK brings together Akai Professional’s excellent control feel with powerful DSP sound-generation technology. The MINIAK is a perfect synthesizer for producers in the studio and live performers on stage because, while it is extremely compact and portable, it is also a powerful instrument for creating sounds for performance and production.

The MINIAK enables users to create programs with up to eight multi-timbral voices, each with three oscillators. The user can create interesting and unique sounds and take advantage of the synthesizer’s more-than-600 preset sounds. Users can create complex and refined sounds using the MINIAK’s two multimode filters, three envelope generators, two LFOs, stereo effects and 40-band vocoder with gooseneck microphone. The MINIAK also has a comprehensive sequencer with step and dynamic real time phrase sequencing, a drum machine/rhythm sequencer and an arpeggiator.

Users will appreciate the MINIAK’s high-resolution, 24-bit balanced quarter-inch inputs and outputs for excellent sound quality. The MINIAK has a 37-key semi-weighted keyboard with velocity sensitivity for all-in-one performance. It can also be used as a sound source for MPCs, computer software and keyboards via MIDI.

“We have been watching a trend in music production towards using more synth sounds alongside samples,” said Adam Cohen, Director of Business Development, Akai Professional. “The MINIAK is the perfect way for anyone to get into synthesis, yet it is powerful enough for any professional to create the precise sonority they are after.”

The MINIAK is available from musical instrument and professional audio retailers and has a U.S. Retail Price of $699.00 with an estimated street price of $499.00."

Roland MKS-80 Super Jupiter & MPG-80 Programmer FOR SALE

YouTube via zibbybone
"Not one of my better videos, this is mainly to show that both of these units work. I believe the MKS-80 is a Rev. 4 (SN: 460xxx). The MPG has some rust spots, but still works as it should. Synth requires standard 2 prong power cable (not included) and programmer requires 6 pin DIN cable (not included). Prices are $1200 for MKS-80 and $800 for MPG-80 (plus shipping). PayPal accepted and I will only ship to CONFIRMED addresses. I will consider an Alesis Andromdeda an even trade for both units."

EML-101 Electrocomp Modular Analog Synthesizer

"Just a quick video of a classic synth. All sounds produced from "normalled" signal routing - no patching. Sorry about the poor lighting and focus, it was late, I was tired and I wanted to get this video made quickly."

via this auction

"All FOUR oscillators work great and wow this thing sounds huge. I tested a few patch points and they all seem to work, I haven't tried sequencing it because these run at 1.2 volts per octave which isn't what most cv sequencers use. These are real classy and rare, it totally makes you feel like your a mad scientist in a 70's sci fi movie!"
