"SONiVOX Announces Sampla – Hip Hop Production Sampler
Premier provider of virtual instrument technology rolls out new Virtual Sampler Plugin for MAC & PC designed for Hip Hop Production

SONiVOX, Boston based virtual instrument manufacturer today announced the availability of Sampla - Hip Hop Production Sampler, an innovative new virtual sampler plug-in for MAC and PC designed for fast and professional quality sampling, and beat creation for hip hop producers everywhere.

Sampla’s unique design bridges the gap between MPC style sampling and the computer based virtual instrument environment. Sampla allows users to easily record, slice, loop, and assign (keymap) their own recorded samples as well as any of their own wav, acid, aiff, and mp3 samples. In addition to the flexibility provided by Sampla’s sampler engine, Sampla’s “Learn Mode” allows users to interface their MIDI pad controllers and controller keyboards directly with Sampla. Whether the user is using a midi keyboard, MPC pad controller, or just their computer by itself, Sampla is designed to put serious control in the producer’s hands.

Sampla’s innovative design and functionality doesn’t stop with the application itself. Additionally Sampla is packed with a diverse and extensive factory sound bank, all recorded and programmed by SONiVOX’s award winning sound design team, with over 250 high end instrument presets and pad layouts. Included are acoustic and electronic drumkits, basses, keyboards, leads, guitars, strings, brass, pads, vocals, symphonic construction kits, scensorship bleeps and blips, as well as a selection of loops from the SONiVOX LoopLine series, all designed to deliver superior sonic and stylistic versatility.

via Dave on AH regarding PAiA: "The PAiA Drummer Boy was featured in a build-it-yourself article in Popular Electronics, I believe, who featured multi-part articles on constructing many PAiA products, including their modular synths and effects boxes. PAiA is, and always has been based in the Oklahoma City area (now in the suburb of Edmond) - NEVER in Cleveland! (CLEVELAND! Where the Hell did THAT idea come from?) If mine aging brain remembers correctly, the Drummer Boy was offered in their catalogs as well, back in the ?70's? or '80's. And the orange color is probably because that's what PAiA used on the metal case parts of their 2720 model synths."

and via Alex: "And now, PAiA is located in Austin TX, with only the repair/support depot remaining in Oklahoma."

ARP AXXE + minimoog

YouTube via nathanielscott
"Recently, Mike Johnston asked me if I could work on his ARP AXXE and cure some of its weird behavior. I was not sure I could fix it but I told him I would take a look because I have never got to fool with an ARP synth. The AXXE is a very cool little synth and I would say that it complements the minimoog well. It has things the minimoog does not like 'sample and hold' and ADSR control over the OSC, not to mention keyboard repeat which is tied tot he main LFO clock. This video shows the first time I got to noodle around with the two synths. I ran the main oudio out from the minimoog into the AXXE audio in which really just goes into the filter just like the minimoog. You can still hear some weirdness with the AXXE but I am close to getting it all tightened up.

The sounds in thi video are all just a minimoog and the ARP AXXE shown. A little delay was added to the recording later to sweeten up the sound.

Again I would like to thank Andrew Cortens for use of the minimoog, and Mike Johnston for letting me make a vidie with his ARP."
