Moog Little Phatty Videos by Dovinia

Analog Impressions #002

YouTube via Dovinia
"Although a bit tedious to program the Moog Little Phatty is an extremely versatile synth. This little musical sketch takes a Tangerine Dream - like approach with a strong arpeggio in front and drifting leads and flute like timbres floating in and out in the background. This piece was recorded on analog cassette tape and patched together with a recording of the rain pouring down outside my studio."

Analog Impressions #007
"Moog Little Phatty accompanying itself over four analog audio cassette tracks."

MicroKORG and MicroKORG XL

YouTube via Dovinia
"Here's a quick improvisation done in two takes with a MicroKORG and a MicroKORG XL. These are excellent sounding analog modeling synths. As an owner of several vintage analogs by Moog, Roland, Korg and Yamaha I have to admit that these two MicroKORG's, although digital, are truly fabulous. Perfect little synths to have about in the house when away from the big, bulky analogs in your studio... If you consider buying a MicroKORG or an XL: Get them both!"

Uglyface, Tremulus Lune and DOD440 in a box

YouTube via Dovinia
"This is a multieffects unit consisting of an Uglyface (oscillator/fuzz), a Tremulus Lune (tremolo) and a modified DOD 440 Envelope Filter. It sounds quite terrible, but that's the whole point. While the soundquality is rather abyssmal, things may get somewhat more interesting if it is played in stereo; Try adding "&fmt=18" at the end of the url."

The Uglyface is by Tim Escobedo. When available you can find them on Ebay here.
The Tremulus Lune is by 4ms. You can find some 4ms pedals on Ebay here and at Big City Music.

Weird Sound Generator WSG

"These are some of the sounds you can make with a Weird Sound Generator from Music From Outer Space."

MFOS Weird Sound Generator

"Here's another WSG. This time in a red box. I'm using an EHX Deluxe Memory Man through two amps to fatten up the sound a bit."

Sound Lab Mini Synth

"This is a brief demo of the Sound Lab Mini Synth. It's not a musical statement, just some tweaking of knobs :-)"

Sound Lab Mini Synth

"Just some fooling around on a keyboard with my MFOS Sound Lab Mini-Synth. I'm using a Midi to CV converter connected to a Korg Poly 800. I also use some digital delay and chorus to fatten things up a bit more."

Analog Impressions #003

"OSC 2 sync'ed to OSC 1 on a Music From Outer Space Soundlab Minisynth , but tweaked so that it doesn't track perfectly on all notes, for some eerie results.

Coron DS7 drum synth clone with trigger pad

YouTube via Dovinia
"Here's a brief demo of a Coron DS7 clone with a separate trigger pad. This thing can make some really nice and actually quite realistic drum sounds due to its LFO which provides some timbres which sounds a bit like ring modulation. It's also great for effects and all sorts of spaced out sounds. Some reverb added, otherwise clean sound."

Roland SH 1000

YouTube via Dovinia
"Here's a little improvisation made by multi tracking an old SH-1000 a few times. All sounds are from the SH-1000. The only effects added are a Deluxe Memory Man analog delay and a little bit of a Deluxe Electric Mistress analog flanger.

Unfortunately the noise generator does not emit any sound on this particular synth. It seems to work, since the random note generator (which takes its note data from the noise generator) is fully functional. Maybe it's just a bad switch ? If anyone has any experience with this kind of problem, please drop me a line. :-) Thanks.

EDIT: Easy fix. It was just a loose cable at the back of the Noise tab. Damn I wish I'd never sold this synth..."

Roland TR 606 Drumatix

"This is a brief demo of some of the suggested patterns from the TR-606 owners manual."

Korg mini pops SR 120 analog drum machine

YouTube via Dovinia
"Here's a little walk through of the basic rhythms of an SR-120.
This machine has 10 fabulous analog drum sounds as opposed to 7 on the mini pops 7 (the one used by Jarre) and may be considered the flagship of the series. People say it's quite rare, but you can find them on ebay quite often anyway. The machine has 32 patterns. 10 patterns are available from the switches and can be combined in any way you want. if you are clever you can in theory push down all the buttons at once. The number of possible combinations are quite extensive. When the "Waltz" pattern is engaged any pattern which is combined with it will also be in triplets, which gives you an idea of the vast combination possibilities. The machine has a nice implementation of foot switch inputs which lets you control fade in/out, start/stop and fills/break. All in all this gives you hours of fun, and that incredibly sweet, inimitable retro drum sound which sits perfectly in almost any mix. Enjoy. :-)"

Roland SH-101 and RS-09 videos by Dovinia

Analog Impressions #006

"This sound sketch comprises an unusually somber Roland SH-101 and a roll of tape with a little stream and early morning bird song. The delay effect is provided by a Revox A77 tape machine."

Analog Impressions #004

"An abysmal , monotonous piece largely dominated by a wide array of Electro Harmonix effects. The synths used are a Roland RS-09 Organ/Strings and an SH-101 running through EHX Deluxe Memory Man, Polychorus, Frequency Analyzer, Deluxe Electric Mistress and Small Stone."

Roland SH 101 and RS 09 with Korg minipops SR 120

"Here's a little improvisation on my SH-101 and a newly arrived RS-09 and Korg minipops SR-120.
It's just a little piece to show you a complete, 100% analog setup which is relatively cheap and very compact. The SH-101 is running through a Deluxe Memory Man analog delay and the RS-09 is running through a Small Stone phaser."

Roland Juno-6 Videos by Dovinia

Roland JUNO-6 Patches #1

YouTube via Dovinia
"Here's a quick walk through of all the Example Sounds from the original Roland Juno-6 manual. I hope you enjoy it more than I enjoyed dialing in all those sounds...

The manual with patch sheets can be downloaded here for reference: ftp://ftp.roland.co.uk/productsupport/Ma nuals/"

Roland JUNO-6 Patches #2

" Here's part 2 of my little walk through of all the Example Patches from the original Roland JUNO-6 owners manual. This part concentrates on what is called "single tone musical instruments" in the manual. Prepare for some really cheesy violins, trumpets etc. As in Part 1, you'll hear that there are some more complex (and possibly more interesting) sounds towards the end of the clip."

Roland Juno 6 Strings

" Here's a little Juno 6 sound demo. Effects added are Boss CE-2, EHX Small Stone and EHX Deluxe Memory Man. I also added some background chords on an old Eminent Solina N150 organ. Drum machine: Univox SR-95 (Minipops 7 equivalent). The typical JMJ chord progressions are intended. I thought this patch sounded somewhat like a typical 70's string synthesizer although the Juno's tend to lean a little to the brassy side. The effects help to mellow things out a bit IMO. Try it yourself if you like; The settings can be seen quite clearly in the video. Hope you enjoy it and sorry about the excessive noise levels... What you hear is the analog goodness of two cascading chorus lines. Bucket Brigade chips are not exactly Hi-Fi ;-)"

Analog Impressions #010

"JUNO-6 on four tracks. Some Small Stone here and there and tons of delay and reverb using the Deluxe Memory Man and Van-Amps Sole-Mate."
