MFOS Featured on Jameco Electronics & Online DIY Tools

For those not familiar with Jameco, they are an electronics part shop: "Jameco has been in business for over 35 years and carries over 50,000 semiconductors, passives, interconnects, electromechanical, power supplies, LEDs and other popular electronic components. Jameco offers both name-brand and a wide selection of money-saving electronics brand alternatives."

Their feature on Music From Outer Space is here and as follows: "The Music From Outer Space website is a destination any Jameco customer should become familiar with. Its new web schematic tool brings great electronics ideas to a web browser near you. Now with little more than a WiFi connection and a browser you can throw away that over-abused napkin and capture your brilliance on this new schematics-made-easy website.

Oakley Noise and Dual Filter Module PCBs Now Available

http://www.oakleysound.com/noise.htm
"The Oakley Noise and Dual Filter module is used to generate non pitched sounds such as wind, surf and other ethereal sounds. It can also be used as a sound source for percussive sounds like cymbals and snare drums.

Two types of noise output are provided. White noise which when unfiltered sounds like gas escaping, and pink noise which sounds more like a big waterfall. The module's pink noise circuitry comprises of a complex cascade network designed to replicate the -3dB/octave low pass response that true pink noise requires.

The module also gives a very low frequency output or infra-red signal. This can be heard as a series of random thumps when listened too, but it is actually a randomly varying output voltage changing all the time, sometimes quickly and sometimes hardly at all. Fascinating to watch when it controls an LED, but it comes into its own when controlling filter cut-off on an otherwise static sound.

This module also features two separate and quite unusual voltage controlled one pole filters; one high pass and one low pass. A one pole filter produces a gentle -6dB/octave roll off for natural sounding noise effects. These are internally normalised to the noise generator's output, but may also be used separately to process other sound sources too.

The two filters are both voltage controlled so the cut off frequency may be controlled by an external CV signal from, perhaps, an ADSR, LFO or midi-CV convertor. A front panel pot and three way switch allows you to control the depth of the modulation for either or both filters. The pot is a 'reversible attenuator, so you are able to control not only the depth of the modulation but also the polarity.

The noise source is true analogue, a reverse biased PNP transistor."

Adama Ve Shamayim on Korg Electribe MX

"Not sure the origins of the song (if anyone knows more let me know) other than that it's associated with an Israeli folk dance. It's pretty catchy.
I've trancified it on the Electribe."

Roland JX-8P Song - Travel Away

YouTube via audibleobsession | November 17, 2010

"Although this video is very short, I feel the accompanying track I made does a great job of showing where the Roland JX-8P shines. The pads are heaven and the bell like leads are like no other. This is one of my favorite synths and, IMO, is hugely underrated. All patches were programmed by myself using a free VST editor I had found online but can't locate anymore (glad to share the .dll if anyone is interested)."

Rare MFB POLYLITE ANALOG SYNTHESIZER

via this auction
"This is the monstrous 4-times Version of the MFB SynLite and sounds awesome!

* 4 complete voices of MFB-SYNTH LITE II
* 2 saw tooth/square oscillators
* 1 square sub-oscillator
* ring modulation und oscillator sync
* 2 envelope generators (ADS/R)
* voltage controlled 24 dB low-pass filter
* 100 user memories

The MFB-POLYLITE is a MIDI-controlled four-voice desktop synthesizer. Each of its four voices offers three flexible digital oscillators, analogue 24 dB low-pass filtering (VCF) as well as an analogue amplifier (VCA). The MFB-POLYLITE offers 100 memory locations for total recall (except Tune). Editing is done by standard MIDI controllers, a free Editor software or, ideally, a MFB-SYNTH LITE II since the MFB-POLYLITE has no controls by itself.

Both main oscillators offer switchable square and saw tooth waveforms (the saw tooth was improved), as well as ring modulation for OSC 1 and an impulse waveform for OSC 2. In addition OSC 2 can be hard synced to OSC 1, too. The octave range is switchable between 4’, 8’ and 16’ with an additional detuning range of plus minus one octave for OSC 2. The sub oscillator is fixed to 32’ and uses a square wave that can be controlled in level and fine tuning. The filter is an approved 24 dB low-pass design with resonance up to self-oscillation – its cutoff frequency can be modulated by different sources. VCF and VCA offer individual envelope generators with Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release parameters. Decay and Release either share a single control or, alternatively, Release may be switched off. Further modulations are performed by an LFO with One-Shot function. The LFO addresses oscillator pitch, pulse width or cutoff frequency.

Glides between legato played notes can be performed in three speeds.

MIDI-data processed are Note-On/Off, Pitch Wheel (plus minus 2 semitones), Mod-Wheel and additional Controller Data; Note Velocity can control the VCF as well as the VCA."
