The Ondioline

Electronic Musician Jean-Jacques Perrey on "I've Got a Secret"
YouTube via rrgomes | Mar 20, 2010 |
"Electronic music pioneer Jean-Jacques Perrey appears on "I've Got a Secret" (November 21st, 1966) with host Steve Allen and panelists Betsy Palmer, Bill Cullen, Bess Myerson, and Henry Morgan.
After several other musicians are introduced along with their instruments (violin, French horn, bagpipe, clarinet) we learn that Perrey's secret is "I play one instrument that can sound like all of these."
After the game, that instrument is revealed to be the Ondioline, an early synthesizer-like keyboard instrument. He demonstrates that it can indeed mimic the sounds of the others and make unique sounds of its own.
Perrey and his collaborator Gershon Kingsley, with whom he recorded the 1966 album "The In Sound from Way Out", then play one of their compositions."

via this auction "This desirable portable digital synth was imported imported as a kit from Canada and built in the UK. It is in excellent cosmetic condition and full working order, and is capable of producing a wide range of retro/chiptunes style lead sounds, as well as drones and basses. It is surprisingly versatile, and I am only selling it due to now my analogue modular synth rendering it somewhat redundant.
There is a MIDI in socket on the back of the unit, alongside a 1/4" audio out jack, and a USB socket - the synth is powered by the USB cable (USB cable included), but can be easily adapted for a 9V power supply if desired.
As an open source synthesizer, all details of the MeeBlip are publicly available, and both the hardware and software can be modified (i.e. hacked) if you so wish. There is a large and active community of users and modders.
