Roland HS-10 with MKS-80 VCF

via this auction

"It's basically a redesigned version of the famous JUNO 1. This is a nice analog synth that is not too big or heavy. It weighs 11 lbs and has 49 keys and features a warm sounding analog filter, the same one used on the later revision of the famous super jupiter rack, known for its signature clean and tight bass. The 'brilliance' parameter creates a very nice filter sweeping effect, and the alpha dial allows for easy editing. There's a 'chord memory' feature which I could not get to work (it lights up and I think I'm using it right) - which seems to be this synths only functional drawback. The volume slider is incredibly smooth given it's age, and the LCD backlight is still very functional. You can get great quality sounds out of the HS-10 and I believe it's a worthy synth to use as a main analog board, or to expand upon an existing collection."

The filter chip is the IR3I05 used in the MKS-80 rev 2, JX-8P, JX-10 and MKS-70 (see analog.no for Roland ICs). The MKS-80 rev 1 and Jupiter-6 used the IR3109 along with the Juno-6, Juno-60, JX-3P, and Jupiter-4. Also see this post on the JX-3P & MKS-30 filters.

"It must be a silly Monday morning -- exploring real-time patch touching. Sorry the sound isn't better but you'll get the idea."

New Sonigen Modular Beta

"Features
Fully modular with as many modules and patch cables as you want.
A fast and intuitive user interface. Layout is mostly automatic, cables indicate signal flow, and our (unique as far as I know) dynamic input handling reduces the need for extra mixer modules, and also reduces screen wastage from unused input terminals / knobs.
Modular voice and modular output effect processing both cleanly integrated in one window.
Everything is processed at full sample rate, there is no lower "control" rate. This means pretty much anything can be plugged into anything else. It also means higher quality modulation control and processing.
Just in time (JIT) assembly. The audio engine is written entirely in assembler, it is dynamically assembled and optimised in real time with no interruption in the audio processing. This allows a whole class of optimizations that cant be done with pre-compiled binaries."

Sonigen Modular also supports skins. http://www.sonigen.com/index.html
