The Analog Lab Offers Three Month Synth Repair Course

"Do you wish you were able to fix and maintain your own gear? Ever wanted to know what an oscilloscope does and how to use it?

Twice a year, the Analog Lab offers a complete technical hands-on mentoring program for those individuals who have an interest in being a professional gear tech or gear designer. Classes meet twice a week for three months and covers subjects such as electronic safety, components, circuit design (using examples from classic analog synths), etc. Each student chooses their own final repair or build project so you come away with a new or restored piece of gear! Jeff Blenkinsopp, The Sonic Wizard, administers classes and has been involved with analog synthesizers and their design and repair for more than 30 years. You can read more of Jeff’s bio here: http://www.earsnyc.com/blenkinsopp.html

You will leave the course with a “real world” education that you can’t get anywhere else!

There are no more than 6 students to a class so don’t delay in signing up!" You can sign up by emailing The Analog Lab at theanaloglab at gmail.com. Also see their training site here, and they "have a free (or donation based) tech database people can sign up for on our website now that allows people to access our database of tech notes and schematics, pictures, tricks of the trade, etc. that address is at http://www.theanaloglab.com/?page_id=69"

"Original Oberheim photography used for cover "Point of Arrival" cassette, 1985"

via Loren Nerell
"Something for your 6th year. :) Its a fake synth I made from reject parts when I worked at Oberheim in the mid 1980s. Front is from an OB8, keyboard from a Matrix 6, rear panel from a Matrix 12. I still have it buried somewhere in my garage. As the caption says it was the front cover of my first album, which will be re-released later this year on vinyl."

Update: Now on vinyl:

Synth prototyping cont. (Make #Zero) - Digi synth with analog filter and LFO

YouTube Uploaded by yakthekyle on Jul 20, 2011

"Further progress on a digital synth project that I plan to start producing very soon. The synth will be reprogrammable from any computer and the code can be easily bent or created from scratch. It also has an LFO controlled analog resonant lowpass filter to fatten up the sound (also circuit bendable) . This project will be COMPLETELY open source (schematics, code, everything) once I get everything organized."

New! Skychord King Capitol Punishment SleepDrone6 Synth

via this auction

See Big City Music (RSS) for more.

"The sleepdrone 6 is a hex oscillator analog drone machine.

The sleepdrone 6 creates aggressive fighter bomber drones smothering all matter within audible range into a brutality harmonic meditation.

The knobs connect to invisible rope pulleys that harness the tension of energy from above. Also, the ropes are connected to the wings of flying craft. At the end of the ropes there are hooks. These hooks steal sound vibrations from the air and turn them into terror. The terror is then conveyed into packets of energy. These packets of energy are commanded by the sleepdrone 6

Features:

6 analog square wave oscillators
6 volume controls
6 on/off controls
Master volume mono out

Please note: This unit requires a standard 9 volt DC wall wart with a negative(-) center (not included)."
