RIP Mike Fulk - Novachord Hammond Guru
This one in via Brian Comnes, via pressdemocrat.com:"A Lake County man who collected electric organs was identified Monday as the victim of two-alarm fire that destroyed his mobile home on Sunday.
The body of Michael Fulk, 72, was found in the back bedroom of his home in a Lucerne mobile home park...
The mobile home was filled with electric organs and other items owned by Fulk, Deputy Fire Chief Pat Brown said. One room held a dozen of the musical instruments."
Eric Barbour of Metsonix has an obit up here:
"Completely unknown to myself, or to the Hammond organ fans, Fulk had moved to a trailer in Lucerne, on the north shore of Clear Lake, several years ago. And, judging by this story, was probably barbecued by an electrical fire in one of his Hammond organs. The exits were blocked--by organs. Including two Novachords, I presume."

Madrona Labs Soundplane and Aalto Updates
via the Madrona Labs newsletter:
"Being a Madrona Labs update for April 2012
Hi all, Spring is coming to our part of the world and we are feverishly working to get out Soundplanes on schedule. So I'll keep this update short and sweet.
Soundplane News
I'm putting together 30 instruments in the shop with the help of my friend Christopher. Each day brings an interesting problem, like, how do you hold two very very sticky things that will grab at the merest touch in just the right positions for gluing, or, how do you make a jig for cutting out five hundred one inch plastic rods pretty quickly? Of course, there are solutions to these problems which are overkill and would take up way too much time. The hardest part can be picking a solution or system that's good enough, and leaving it at that. My neighbor in the shop has a sticker on the door that says "THINK" with the "no" sign around it like "no smoking" and so on. This advice is usually pretty sound. You can look to the website for some pictures of us getting our work on.
Aalto News
Meanwhile, I am working on Aalto 1.3. I'm trying to get in some of the most-requested features and a few important bug fixes. This update will include Soundplane support so that Soundplane owners have access to Aalto sounds right away. In other words, you'll be able to play the Aalto plugin directly from the Soundplane in addition to MIDI. For the data coming from the Soundplane client to Aalto, I'm using the TUIO 2 format with good results so far. I expect this decision to stick through the shipping version, which means that not only will Soundplane users be able to play Aalto over OSC, but anyone using TUIO 2 for touch data, which will probably include Reactable, makers of homebrew touch screens, and other things I haven't heard of yet.
Until next time,
Randy"
