Rheyne - iOS Jam - 4/24/12 (Live Jam #41) Lemur, AniMoog, Geo, and Griid

YouTube Published on Apr 24, 2012 by RheyneMusic

"Stream or download an audio-only version of this jam at SoundCloud: http://snd.sc/K8qcgA

A 100% live improvised jam using only iOS devices and Ableton Live. Lemur is running on two iPads, AniMoog is on a third iPad, Geo Synthesizer is on an iPhone and Griid is running on an iPod Touch. This is a combination of live audio input, wireless MIDI, and wired MIDI through an iConnectMIDI on the lower right iPad. All effects and filters are from Ableton Live, remotely controlled by the custom Lemur templates.

The audio from AniMoog and Geo is being fed into a PreSonus 1818VSL connected to a Macbook Pro. The drums are from NI's Kontakt, and the yellow and red synths controlled by Lemur are the same Massive patches from the RheyneLooper (http://youtu.be/ZvXngE-LiKI). More controls have been added since the RheyneLooper versions, and will be released soon in a "Version 2" of the download package available at Liine's user library.

No preparation was done for this piece in terms of preset tempos or pre-recorded loops. The tempo was determined by the first loop recorded on drums through Lemur. All loops are recorded live."

Bad Trader / Scam Warning

Full thread on Muff's here. You be the judge. In short, two separate people are claiming to have been ripped off and a third received recent trade requests. Normally scams in general would not go up here, but this one is particularly messed up because the person in question appears to be part of the community. This isn't your typical anonymous Craigslist or eBay scam.

The main tips I got from reading the thread is

1. FULLY insure your stuff in case something goes south
2. Make sure you get SIGNATURE confirmation on items you ship and not just Delivery confirmation. They are different.
3. Only trade with people who are widely known, active and recommended in the community.
4. If possible, trade in person in a VERY public place, and cover your back.

Always be careful and use common sense. Assume the worst and be paranoid. If the person doesn't understand why you are taking precautions, they are not worth your time.

Update: The Muff's thread is now public for those that are not members of the forum.

Also see this post for an update for various aliases he has gone by.

Sequential Circuits Prophet 5 Rev. 3.3

"Up for bid is this classic Prophet 5 and case. By far the most stable and dependable of all the Prophet 5 revisions, the Rev. 3.3 came loaded with 120 factory programs, all of which can be edited and saved by the user. These units can also be upgraded to MIDI compatibility, though this one has not been upgraded. I bought the instrument and the case new in ’82 or ’83 but haven’t been able to use it for the past 12 years or so. I hate to see it go, but at this point I think it’s best to pass it on to someone who will put it to its intended use.

Electronics: It just got a complete overhaul. I shipped it off to the highly-regarded Prophet guru at Analog Synth Service in Oakland, CA (not Wine Country). He brought it all back up to factory specs, including the replacement of a control VCA (CA3280) and a voltage controlled filter (CEM3320). He also scaled the DAC, the oscillators, the filters, and reloaded the original 120 factory programs into the main and expansion RAM.

The unit also got all new electrolytic and tantalum capacitors (including the filter caps on the power supply), a new 3-volt memory battery, one new potentiometer, and all the pots and switches were cleaned. The key bed itself was completely disassembled and cleaned, new key bushings were installed, and the metal comb prongs that the keys mount to were leveled. All the key contacts were cleaned and adjusted as well, so there is no misfiring or 'spitting' at all."

GDAL Synthesizer R1

"This is practically done now... holy fhtagn, I have made a synthesizer O_O.
I haven't checked to see how in tune it is, but I wired the keyboard up properly now and it was in tune enough that things I played sounded like they were supposed to.
Unfortunately it's already starting to make worrying crackles and "failure imminent" kind of noises so I made this video with haste, thus, I didn't really know what to play so I just improvized a bit and played some old video game tunes :)"

"LIDER-1 (produced by Formanta factory in 1982 - the one which made a legendary POLIVOKS) is a guitar microsynthesizer designed to be applied by guitar players who use external effects in the live performance or studio work. The synthesizer is a floor-mounted unit with four rubber footswitches; it also has sliders and knobs for changing the parameters of effects. LEADER-1 has 5 main series sections: MIXER, PHASER, FILTER, MODULATOR, and OUTPUT - every one with its own parameters and indicators. Commutation: line input, output (line, phone, amplifier). On the outer surface of the bottom panel, an input sensitivity regulator is situated."
