Apple Patents Polyphonic Note Detection

via Apple Insider

"The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Tuesday granted Apple a patent for polyphonic note detection, or the ability to parse out single pitches and tones from a plurality of voices, a technology that may make its way to an expected version of the company's Logic Pro music editing software.

Aptly-named "Polyphonic note detection," U.S. Patent No. 8,309,834 describes a method in which a polyphonic audio signal is converted and sampled against a reference note to distinguish individual voices.

Prevailing technology is limited to detecting single notes, such as a person singing or the picking of a single string on a guitar, which can be used for a number of audio applications like tuning, music creation and pitch correction. With polyphonic detection, a user would be able to tune all strings on a guitar with a single strum.

While there are certain algorithms on the market for digital audio workstations, such as Melodyne from Celemony, Apple has yet to include the feature in its own Logic DAW..."  Full post here.

Livid CNTRL:R and Dave Smith Tempest

Livid CNTRL:R and Dave Smith Tempest: Setting up the Tempest with Live and CNTRL:R from Livid Instruments on Vimeo.

"While the Livid CNTRL:R provides a huge amount of control over Live's instruments, effects and Livid's Step Sequencers, the sonic originality and beauty of outboard synths are an essential part of most electronic music setups. Livid teamed up with the best synth maker in the business, Dave Smith Instruments, and explores some ways to seamlessly integrate the Tempest and Mopho into an Ableton live set. With the help of DSI's Carson Day, Peter puts full control of these analog beauties into the CNTRL:R, ending in a thick and rich mix of synths, sounds, and sequences.
In this video, Carson Day of Dave Smith Instruments and Peter Nyboer of Livid give an overview of their plan of attack for getting the DSI Tempest and Mopho setup and integrated into Live. Carson explains how the Tempest is setup and Peter shows how the Livid CNTRL:R accesses everything on the desktop, both real and virtual. Not just an ideal setup for DAW production, but the wealth of hands-on control makes for a perfect setup for collaboration and jamming."

"This is my old 'big box' modular which was sold in around 1996 I think. 16U wide and quite shallow it would mount onto the wall with special hangers.

Modules:

Noise/Filter, 3 x VCO, 3U Superladder issue 3, Equinoxe, SVF, Triple VCA
PSU front plate (the actual PSU was mounted to the rear of the case behind this panel), midiDAC-2, multiple, VC-LFO 1, MOTM Quad LFO, Control-4, Sample/Slew, Dual Comparator, Triple EG, 2 x ADSR/VCA"

The Long Lost 7th Track

"The Long Lost 7th Track by Weinglas

This video was recorded live in one take. Then I added some pitch shifting and harmonizing to the Buchla 200e and the Roland CR78. At the end I used a ADDAC .Wav-Player Eurorack module for the creepy 'vocals'."

C 911A Trigger Delay Testing

Published on Nov 13, 2012 by djangosfire

"Testing out repeating 4 note sequence - adjusting the COTK C911A Trigger Delay against 2x voices to throw the feel/swing of the pattern without touching the clock.

CH 1 of the C911A is modifying Voice #3 "the filter zap" that is being triggered intially from stage #1 of the sequencer.

CH 2 of the C911A is directly controlling the VCA of Voice#1 ... this allows you to select what of the 4x notes is passed through the VCF..... when the VCA is closed, you can hear the VCF and it's melody from sequencer row #3.

Anyway, nothing fancy but just sharing possible trigger delay patch uses."

Ruin Electronics ATOM mini modular synthesizer

Published on Nov 12, 2012 by psyingo

"This is the ATOM, a hand made mini modular synthesizer by Ruin Electronics.

The ATOM features 2 VCOs (Voltage Controlled Oscillator) with triangle and square waveshapes, a VCA (Voltage Controlled Amplifier), Lowpass resonant VCF (Voltage Controlled Filter), a three input mixer, and 3 1/4" to banana converters.
The mixer features high gain and will be able to convert a signal from a guitar pedal to synth levels.
The VCOs can go from sub-audio LFO ranges up into audio.
The VCF is a unique lowpass filter that is in no other device.

Demo of it mangling external audio coming soon!"
