Richard Lainhart's Studio & An Abandoned Garden
Richard Lainhart passed away on Dec 30, 2011.
His music and influence is kept alive by his wife Caroline at Richard Lainhart Music and Films. Pictured here is his studio with a Buchla 200e and Vibraphone. The video below is a piece he recorded with processed vibraphone followed by An Abandoned Garden
by Richard Lainhart & Lucio Menegon just released on Bandcamp.
One Year from Richard Lainhart on Vimeo.
"A year-long timescape of a maple tree in my backyard, assembled and processed in Adobe After Effects. The soundtrack is computer-processed bowed vibraphone, played and recorded live.
'One Year" was recently shown at T-Minus 2008, the Time-Art Festival, in Brooklyn, NY; DIGiT2008, the Fifth Annual Delaware Valley Digital Media Exposition in Narrowsburg, NY; and at Dreaming A New Real: Loop Sanctuary IV, in Troy, NY. In December 2010, 'One Year' won the HDFEST Deffie award for Best Experimental Film at HDFEST 2010 in Portland, OR."
"Limited edition of 100 vinyl w/ hand screenprinted cover and letterpressed wraparound band.
released 07 January 2012
Music by Richard Lainhart & Lucio Menegon"

"sonic experimentation session using the diddley bow through a modded ekdahl moisturizer, then further processed through the eventide H8000FW."

"The CZ-1 synthesizer competes with the CZ-5000 for the title of most advanced in the CZ series. The CZ-1 had all the features of the CZ-5000 except the sequencer. However, the CZ-1 doubled the memory, was multitimbral, also stored splits and layers as "Operation Memories", added velocity and aftertouch sensitivity to the keyboard, along with programming parameters to control how velocity and aftertouch pressure would affect the sound. In this respect the CZ-1 is the most advanced CZ synthesizer. The CZ-1 also featured a backlit display - a small but nice improvement over the rest of the series.
It has a full 61-note, 5-octave keyboard with velocity and aftertouch sensitivity. Very professional features from a Casio synth! Otherwise it is essentially a CZ-3000 (which is essentially two CZ-1000s or CZ-101s). With the CZ-1 you get 8-stage envelopes, 2 oscillators per voice and a whole lot more, with relatively easy programming.
Polyphony: 16 voices; Oscillators: 2 per voice (DCO, DCW, DCA); Keyboard: 61 keys with velocity and aftertouch; Memory: 64 preset, 64 user patches, 64 patch external cartridge; Effects: Chorus; Control: MIDI.
This has plenty of Yamaha DX-like sounds with a unique use of Phase Distortion synthesis to get them. For performance, the CZ-1 may be the best of the CZ-series. Its dynamic keyboard and enhanced memory abilities make it ideal for live situations. Memory, MIDI and multitimbrality have all been upgraded in the CZ-1 making it one of the nicest synths ever to grow out of a consumer market. As an older piece of gear, I am selling it on an as-is basis and am offering no guarantee. However, as I said, I did test it and put it though it's paces and it was working fine."

"VCF and ADSR doesn't work.
Some key of MONO section needs to be tuned.
In the MONO section TUBA, TROMBONE, TRUMPET and ACCORDION doesn't work.
The hard case needs to be restored in some parts.
It's a great Italian vintage synth, with extraordinary analog sounds."

Logique Analogique for iPad Video

"Logique Analogique is a simulation of a real circuit board that includes an 8-bit binary counter, analog implementation of logic functions, and 4 channel, 1-bit sound generation. To quote the developer, "The Logique Analogique sequencer consists of an 8-bit binary counter and four tracks which generate pulse waves when a user-defined majority function depending on the counter bits is true. Switches which select the counter bits (or their logic inverse) and a threshold voltage define the majority function. The output is calculated as the XOR function of the four tracks' signals, which produces a ring modulation like effect." Complexities aside, this app creates incredibly powerful sounds, with a seemingly endless amount of rhythmic possibilities. The sounds can be layered to create ring modulation type effects, with both pitch and threshold control to further shape the sound. The sequencer makes it possible to create evolving patterns or complete songs, using the tap & drag method to easily create your sequence. I would suggest starting slowly with this app, to hear the effect of each switch or dial, but then dive in and explore. It has to be noted that this app does not offer any method of recording yet, but both MIDI and Audio Copy are currently being considered for the future. Despite these missing necessities, I have to say that I'm incredibly impressed with the power of this app, and for the first time, I'm willing to connect my iPad to another source to record my creations. I haven't found another app that creates such intense sonic delights as this does. I'm so taken with Logique Analogique, that even without recording or MIDI, I still have to rate it ...
