Demo of Elektron Analog Four, Roland TR-707, by Jordan Passmore

Published on Feb 22, 2013 Jordan Passmore·47 videos

"This demo is of the Elektron Analog Four, a four voice analog synthesizer/sequencer and the Roland TR-707 drum machine. The Elektron is doing all the tones here and of course, the 707 is playing the drums. In terms of effects, there is a slight bit of analog delay and chorus on the 707's snare. Otherwise, all effects used are the ones built into the Elektron (it's reverb and delay were used on this project). The mixer is an Alto AMX-220. The master of that was then sent to an Electra EQ, then finally to my soundcard. No post-processing, compression, etc was used.

I am having lots of fun with the Analog Four. It excels very well as modulated and filtered textures. It sounds very different than other analog synths I have owned in the past and the sequencer is (of course) fantastic. All tones here were programmed by me."

MULTIVOX MX-440 STRING & BRASS ANALOG KEYBOARD SYNTHESIZER

"Vintage Multivox MX-440 analog string and brass synthesizer. This is the less-than-reputible clone of the Roland RS-202 although it's debatable which came first. Works 100% and sound great. The MX-440 keyboard is splittable and the bass and treble have identical independent controls. Also includes an adjustable vibrato with adjustable delay, bass and treble "tone" sliders, separate sustain adjustments for the bass and treble sections and two very nice sounding ensemble settings. Overall in very good cosmetic condition with some nicks and wear from being about 35 years old. Includes the lid and the original music stand! Bonus feature: the keys have uniformly yellowed with age!

More pictures can be seen here (there are two MX-440's in this set, one is this one and the other belongs to a customer)"

Yamaha CS-50 Analog Synthesizer

"Mid-1970s Yamaha CS-50, the first in the line that also eventually included the CS-60 and uber-synth CS-80.

4 voices of pure analog goodness through a completely analog signal chain, this unique synth boasts a sound like no other except its bigger, more expensive brothers.

It has both a resonate High Pass and resonant Low Pass filter, multiple waveforms (Pulse, Ramp, Sine, Noise) which can be used individually or in combination, very flexible filter and amp settings, plus plenty of modulation options including modulation via aftertouch.

My favorite part of this synth is its incredible ring modulator, which is again very flexible and capable of a wide variety of sounds from subtle to Dr. Who.

Synth is in wonderful electrical and cosmetic condition, complete with legs, leg brace, music stand, case top with leg bracket screws.

Quick warmup and stays in tune.

The only known issue with the synth is that the sine wave on one out of the four voice cards does not play, however it does not diminish the overall sound of the synth.

This has made appearances on almost all of my Sensitive Chaos albums, including the new one that will be released this spring..."

Design Labs Prologue Retro Synth MIDI to CV Filter Module

This is the first Design Laboratories post featured on the site.

"DESIGN LABS PROLOGUE PLUS WITH RETRO SYNTH FITTED

This is an 8 channel midi to cv convertor with DIN sync converter and a separate analogue filter, with a vca and 2 envelope generators......

The Prologue Plus has four MIDI-to-CV processors, each of which can handle four notes simultaneously. The first menu, General Control, allows the following to be assigned to each processor: a MIDI channel, one of five keying modes, LFO, clock and portamento rates, four MIDI controllers, and pitch-bend amount. The processors can be treated individually, or stacked to give 8-note poly

There are 11 Gate-type signals, derived from each of the four processors, to be assigned to any of the eight output Gate sockets. Similarly, 24 continuous-voltage signals can be assigned from any of the processors to any of the eight CV outputs. The pitch CVs can be either 1volt/oct standard or volts/hz

The flexibility offered by eight pairs of CVs and Gates is staggering. Each of the eight CV outputs is a source of continuous voltage, and the range of mapping options means that each of these can carry a pitch CV, or any one of hundreds of controller CVs. This means that in addition to driving up to eight monosynths with basic pitch and gate information, you can play a synth such as an Oberheim 4-voice or a modular synth with 4-note polyphony and four continuous controllers (such as filter, amplitude, PWM, and so on). .

The unit also offers DIN sync 24 conversion from midi clock via a 5 pin din socket on the rear. Clock pulses, start, stop and reset pulses can be routed to the gate outputs on the rear of the unit, these are very useful for runing analogue sequencers, arpeggiators, sample and holds and envelope generators etc...

The retro synth option offers a filter, vca and 2 adsr envelope generators to process external audio. The filter is based around the oberheim xpander circuit and has the following 14 filter types.

BP1 Band-pass filter 1. A wide range of frequencies is passed.

BP2 Band-pass filter 2. A medium range of frequencies is passed.

BP3 Band-pass filter 3. A narrow range of frequencies is passed.

HP1+L A 12dB/octave hi-pass filter with a low-frequency EQ boost.

HP2+L A 18dB/octave hi-pass filter with a low-frequency EQ boost.

HP3+L A 24dB/octave hi-pass filter with a low-frequency EQ boost.

LP1 A 12dB/octave low-pass filter with no EQ applied.

LP2 A 24dB/octave low-pass filter with no EQ applied.

LP1-L A 12dB/octave low-pass filter with a low-frequency roll-off.

LP2-L A 24dB/octave low-pass filter with a low-frequency roll-off.

LP1+L A 12dB/octave low-pass filter with a low-frequency EQ boost.

LP2+L A 24dB/octave low-pass filter with a low-frequency EQ boost.

NOTCH1-LP A medium range of frequencies is rejected. There is a low-frequency roll-off.

NOTCH2-LP A narrow range of frequencies is rejected. There is a low-frequency roll-off.

The 2 ASDR envelopes can be routed to the CV outputs, for use with external synth and modules.
If you just add a external oscillator you will have a complete synth with a lovely filter or you can use
the retro synth input to process any analogue or digital synth or sound source. .

This machine does nearly every kind of midi to cv conversion and will filter and process audio
it's an amazing machine!!"

Malekko Heavy Industry Wiard XMix Module

See Perfect Circuit Audio (RSS) for more.

"The Malekko Wiard series of modules offer the same great sound, ergonomics, musicality, and quality that made the Wiard 300 series legendary, at a fraction of the cost and size in Eurorack modular format.

The XMIX is a versatile mixing/crossfading utility module with Wiard flair. There are level controls for the two inputs (X and Y). The Y input can be inverted via a switch. Z controls the balance of X Vs. Y. Z has a CV input, along with an attenuator for CV amount. Positive and negative outputs are provided, as well as an Expand input which provides a unity input to chain the output of other modules (such as another XMIX).

Features

A 2 > 1 Mixer
CV crossfading
A signal inverter
Audio rate amplitude/crossfading modulation
With a single input, you can use the XMIX as a linear VCA
Input different waveforms to create new wave shapes
The X input normals into the Y input when nothing is plugged into Y. Invert the Y input with the switch, and crossfade the X signal VS the inverted version of itself
The XMIX is 8hp wide, 25mm deep, and consumes approximately 45mA power."
