benjolin, meet Rene

Published on Jun 19, 2013 Epoch Modular·3 videos

"This a little ditty I threw together for Ross and his buddies over at Vicmod, who were inquiring about the use of cvs from the benjolin, i.e. the pulse outs, triangle outs, XOR, PMW and Rungler outs. In the video I am using two benjolins. The runglers from each are being used to clock the x and y axes of the Rene, while the X and Y CV outs from the Rene are plugged into oscillators A and B on the benjolin on the left, whose Low Pass output we are hearing. The cut off of this filter is also being undulated by cwejman complex transient generator whose decay, hold and release cv parameters are being controlled by two triangle A outputs from the benjolins and the rungler out from the one the left. There is also a brief part at the end where I use the Synthwerks Force Sensing Resistor module on the right to experiment with the rungler loop cvs on the benjolins."

More benjolin here.

"Features:

Two oscillators with sync & detune, one producing either a Square or Sawtooth waveform, with the other producing either a Pulse or Sawtooth waveform
One low pass filter/VCF, that can use the envelope generator, has limited keyboard tracking, and is capable of self oscillation
Limited envelope generator with variable attack and release, and a switchable sustain (no decay)
Oscillator 2 can be tuned independently or synced to oscillator 1
Noise generator
Ring modulator (called “Bell Tone”)
Polyphonic oscillator. This oscillator is routed through the filter, but not through the envelope generator or LFO
LFO that can modulate the oscillators and the filter using a triangle, square or random waveform
Portamento (called “Glide”)
External Control inputs for pre-MIDI CV/Gate"

Details via Woodbrass.com

"The Crystall Ball is a movement based interface that allows intuitive control of machines: MIDI synthesizers or creation softwares.

Faders and knobs disappear and give place to optical sensors sensitive to distance and speed, in order to control samples, effects, lights, videos, etc., bringing a new dimension to computer assisted creation.

Completely programmable, the backlit keyboard and the five optical sensors provide endless control possibilities.

MIDI standards and class compliant, the Crystall Ball is USB plug'n'play and compatible with most software such as Ableton Live, Serato, Logic Studio, Max / MSP. Through a standard MIDI port the Crystal Ball can also control synthesizers, samplers or drum machines.

Innovative controller

With optical sensors, the Crystall Ball breaks conventions and bring a new dimension to the man-machine interface.

In addition to unmatched interaction provided by its innovative technology, its unique design allows the realization of performance not possible with current control surfaces such as intuitive and simultaneous control of several notes and / or independent effects.

Adaptable & Configurable

MIDI standards and class compliant, the Crystall Ball is USB plug'n'play and compatible with most software such as Ableton Live, Serato, Logic Studio, Max / MSP,...

Each keys allows you to assign any MIDI command to the various sensors, like notes or effect controls. With 24 banks of 5 presets, the Crystall Ball offers endless control possibilities.

Care and effort made into design to get the best intuitivity, give the Crystall Ball a real instrument look and feel.

Totally French made, with high quality materials, it has an unique "French Touch".

Specifications

- 1 USB port
- 1 MIDI In / 1 MIDI Out
- 1 Jack port (footswitch)
- 5 optical sensors
- Rubber keyboard
- High quality materials, metal frame

keys + sensors duo:

Each key can be configured in two modes.

Crystall Ball mode:

The MIDI command is sent when the correponding sensor detects an object. The distance is measrued in real time, turning the sensors into virtual knobs or faders.

Pad mode:

MIDI command is sent when the key is pressed like a classic pad"
