The Forgotten Synth That Launched a Ground-Breaking Technology

"Franklin Eventoff, an American tinkerer and musician invented the force sensing resistor in 1977. This allowed for touch control of voltage, which he used to create instruments. It found first commercial musical use in the Mattel Musical Thing, a cheap toy synth. Frustrated with the experience, Eventoff went on to create the much more refined Sonica. The Sonica is a lovingly crafted boutique instrument with an oscillator by famed Serge Tcherepnin, the creator of the Serge synthesizer. Only about 650 where made, and they are collector's items. The technology of the force sensing resistor proved hugely successful and lives on in cars, robotics and instruments like the AKAI MPC and the Otamatone.

"Vintage Bee Gees Rhythm Machine Electronic Music Synthesizer. Made famous by Kraftwerk who used it on their song "Pocket Calculator" and on tour... [2nd video here, pic here]

Has 3 rhythms, Disco, Latin, and Pop, with adjustable tempos. Tempos are slow, medium, and fast. Also has a knob for tone adjustment. Headphone jack can act as a line out (see above notes regarding sound). Keyboard flip out stand is still functional.

Requires 1 9-volt battery which is not included."

"VERY old , box is worn but has not been used. I do not know if it works-I prefer not to open the box. The box is worn due to age."

I never really thought about it, but it kind of looks like a mini original Novation Bass Station with the blue on black accents.

"I bought a mint condition Synsonics Drums for £30. This left me with me with the 'spare repair' one I bought a year ago which I thought would make a great project to see if it could be incorporated into a an acoustic drum kit!

I use a Time electronics Model 8000 Decade Resistor box to help set the correct value resistor to select the sensitivity of triggering Synsonics from the rim of the TOM."
