via the seller: "This synthesizer is proudly and definitely BLACK GOO FREE. When I first purchased this unit I opened it to check on this common potential issue and found that the foam pad had not yet disintegrated into the dreadful GOO. I was able to remove the pad cleanly, preventing any issue in the future. Look up 'Moog Rogue black goo' on a search engine to learn more and feel secure that this will never happen to this particular unit!"

"Not music but an experimental soundtrack with the radio signal.
I used enigmatic radio signal known as 'Slot Machine', unidentified but they say this is for naval communication ( beacon?) signal or something ( for JSDF ?) , can be heard in far east pacific area at several frequencies. The signal is modulated just like teletype or something. I patched this signal in MS-20 mini and this is it."

Dave Smith Talk on the History of Synths Tomorrow at Stanford University's CCRMA Open to the Public

via CCRMA

Hopefully someone will record it and put it online for those of us that can't make it. Update: embed below!

"Dave Smith will discuss the interesting history of synths, moving from analog to digital to software and now back to analog.

Bio: Dave Smith founded Sequential Circuits in the mid-70s. In 1977, he designed the Prophet-5, the world's first microprocessor-based musical instrument. This revolutionary product was the world's first polyphonic and programmable synth, and set the standard for all synth designs that have followed. The Prophet instruments played a major part in the recordings of all popular music styles, and are still prized by musicians today.

Dave is also generally known as the driving force behind the generation of the MIDI specification in 1981-in fact, he coined the acronym. In 2013, Dave received a Grammy in recognition of his role in the development of MIDI. After Sequential, Dave was President of DSD, Inc, an R&D division of Yamaha, where he worked on physical modeling synthesis and software synthesizer concepts. He then started the Korg R&D group in California, designing the Wavestation products and other technology. He then took over as President at Seer Systems and developed the world's first software based synthesizers.

In 2002, Dave founded Dave Smith Instruments to develop new hardware instruments like the Evolver, Mopho, and Prophet synthesizers, as well as the Tempest drum machine, co-designed with Roger Linn. His latest instrument is the hybrid digital/analog Prophet-12 synthesizer."

At 13:10: MIDI could have been named UMII pronounced YouMe which stood for (Universal Music Instrument Interface). The name was suggested by Roland's founder Ikutaro Kakahashi.
