"The Fairlight VT-5 Voicetracker is an excellent way to convert any monophonic performance into various control voltage or MIDI output signals. Control voltage outputs for Pitch, Gate, Level, Bright and Purity make this a great source for controlling modular synthesizers.

This Voicetracker has been tested and is fully functional, although some of the keys sometimes require a second or heavy press. A User Manual and screen grabs of all function screens is included.

Also included is a small NTSC monitor to see the various displays and for programming. This small monitor is convenient and good in a pinch, but I recommend using a larger monitor for obvious reasons."

Chaotic harmony with the Intellijel µScale

Published on Oct 19, 2014 Steve Castellano

"Here's a quick and easy way to to add quasi-chaotic harmonic accompaniment to a sequence with the Intellijel µScale and whatever spare oscillators you have lying around. I've kept the patch pretty simple for the purposes of the demo:

Make Noise Rene → Intellijel Dixie II
Intellijel µScale → Intellijel Dixie II & Make Noise STO
Make Noise Maths → µScale CV in & shift (via Doepfer A-148 Dual S/H)
Dixies & STO → Intellijel Korgasmatron
Korgasmatron → Pittsburgh Dual Index
Intellijel Dual ADSR → Korgasmatron & Dual Index

A very basic subtractive setup, in other words.

Edit: It's been pointed out to me that I patched the second instance of the Doepfer A-148 in what some might call a "unique" fashion. In my defence I can only say that if it had been my Analogue Solutions SH-NZ, which has the clock input in the middle, that would have been the correct routing. And any set that doesn't end up with smoke coming out of your rig is a good set."

World's first Apple Watch MIDI Controller

Audio Hack SF - Apple Watch MIDI Controller Published on Oct 18, 2014

"World's first Apple Watch MIDI controller. Created and demonstrated at Audio Hack SF, 2014.

Brett Clark, Tommy Hass, Lev Perrey, Alex Oana, Curtis Wang

"By only using a small square of the screen, an Apple Watch prototype was implemented on an iPhone strapped to the wrist with black electrical tape. The app used gyroscope and accelerometer input to control two different effects on an audio file [in addition to swipe-for-transport control]. Tapping on the interface switched between the effects, while rolling the wrist forward and backward controlled a parameter of the active effect. It was a clever way to start prototyping for the iWatch and ideating about the potential it has for music creation." -- Gina Collecchia, Create Digital Music"

Modulares Interface - Modular Hardware Controller for the iPad

Modulares Interface from Florian Born on Vimeo.

New iPad Deals on eBay

"Multi-touch devices like the iPad have become more and more popular over the last couple of years. Nowadays they are not only used for browsing and sending e-mails, but also as a medium for new fields of applications. One particular thing of multi-touch devices is in need of improvement: It is the lack of haptic feedback, which makes it difficult to set parameters precisely.
Regarding to this problem the project has been developed to provide a variety of physical controllers.
These controllers expand the usage of a touch device with a haptic feedback while adjusting parameters.
By using magnets, the different controllers can easily be arranged onto the iPad. A modular interface appears, which uses a given device just like the iPad.

The system contains three different parts:
- The physical controllers (button, slider and knob), made out of conductive aluminium to pass on the electrical discharge of the human skin.

- A frame, made out of aluminium and plastic, in which the iPad is inserted. The edge of the frame has embedded magnets, making it possible to position the controller precisely and easily.

- The software, running as an app on the iPad. It organizes the control elements and sends the parameters to the corresponding software, which is controlled by the modular interface.
The controllers are made of aluminium because of its property to forward electrical charge. Therefore, the electrical discharge of the human skin can be transmitted to the touchscreen of the iPad.
To prevent the control devices from screeching the display, a piece of conductive foam is used on the end of each controller.
An app programmed in Cinder/C++ is running on the iPad. It manages the individual setup of the controllers and reads their input on the touchscreen. The app then transfers the information via OSC to a connected application.
