Teenage Engineering OP-1 & Arturia Beatstep

"Arturia Beatstep is sequencing the OP-1. The beat is coming from Ableton Live running on a laptop just out of shot. This is my first jam with the beatstep. I'd programmed in 3 preset sequences and in this song I'm alternating through the three.

Really impressed with the Beatstep, it's a greta bit of kit for the money - it's great for coming up with random sequences.

I can see it working well as a midi controller for the likes of Ableton Live and other DAWs too.

The one complaint I have is having to need to use the Editor Software for doing some of the additional functions - I'd have preferred the unit had buttons for these and wouldnt mind it being just a little bit larger for that reason - still I guess it was a cost-saving thing."

"Here is a complete list of the custom restoration work that was done by Allen Coppock at Synth Spa in the States:

- Wooden end panels - custom made Andiroba hardwood end panels installed.
- Complete internal overhaul including new voice chips installed (all six, so there are no risks of future failure)
- Update to new "socketed" voice chips so they can be replaced easily, if they do ever fail
- Replacement of the battery and update with a battery holder (instead of the original soldered battery) for future replacement
- External clean of all the switches and buttons
- Cleaning of the key action and internal check / recalibration
- Updated all LEDs and the 2-digit display to new ones
- Added a red pitch bend knob
- Added a 3-prong socket for the power input (standard "kettle cord" that most synths use)
- Voltage change to 240V for Australia, so you don't need a step-down transformer
- Restored all the original factory programmes"

"RSS-10 Roland Sound Space three-dimensional sound processor.

The RSS-10 is a two-channel system that utilizes a fast, new DSP three-dimensional processor to place an audio signal anywhere around the listener. A complete 360 degree reverb soundscape is created.

Using a conventional two-speaker stereo reproduction system, a full three-dimensional sound image is created. The RSS-10 is used during the stereo mixdown process, with no encoders or decoders needed for final stereo reproduction.

The RSS system comprises a binaural processor which is the heart of the RSS system, a transaural processor and a distance processor that reproduces the distance from the sound source, and a reverb processor that simulates the sound reflection from any direction and creates realistic and precise reverberations.

A Stationary mode locates the sound image at a stationary position, while a Flying mode moves the sound image in real time. Both modes can be easily controlled on a personal computer (Mac or Windows) using software packages that come with the system."
