OB6 Vangelis/Guitar-Style Jam (Mono/Unison mode)

Published on Sep 16, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Short demo of the Obi in unison mode. Being unison/monophonic, this take could have been performed on the MB. But it is nice to show the Obi in mono. Very strong sound. And a good demonstration of the Obi's onboard distortion.

The initial arpeggio sequence is a nod to Vangelis' 'Spiral'. I haven't listened to it in a while, but if I remember correctly the Spiral sequence is 9-note, whereas the sequence I'm playing is 7-note. I'm nodding more to the sense of the ascending arpeggios/overall harmony.

The Db section rhythmically is a 14:8 sequence, and the 'slowing down the arpeggiator' style of playing is built on a 10:8 (i.e. 5:4) sequence.

The high Oldfield/Tubular Bells-style sequence in the second half after the guitar-style solo is standard semiquavers in 4/4.

PS all sounds onboard. No post-pro.

All best

multi-sampler with modulation inputs on the percussa ssp

Published on Sep 16, 2018 PERCUSSA

"quick demo of the sampler module on the percussa ssp eurorack module, in the latest update (16092018) the sampler was extended to have seperate parameters for each of the 8 sampler slots, as well as seperate modulation inputs, such that each sample loaded into the seperate slots can be modulated by different LFOs (demonstrated in this video). Of course multiple sampler modules can be loaded in the SSP's patcher grid. More info about the SSP at http://www.percussa.com/"

Update: some additional details via the Percussa Kickstarter page:

Sampler Module

Extended sampler so parameters are accessible per sample slot and only affect the slot being edited

Extended sampler so each slot has its own modulation inputs

Fine tuned start/length parameter step size

Removed empty space after samples loaded in slots

Removed Coarse/Fine for Freq/Tune settings in sampler and replaced with single Freq/Tune parameters

Fine tuned Freq/Tune parameter step sizes with new encoder acceleration code

Removed Next/Prev buttons from sampler (use LEFT/RIGHT cursor keys now to switch slots and access parameters per slot)

Made 2 presets with multiple samplers and modulations of the different slots
Envelope Module

Fine tuned step size for parameters, tested with new encoder acceleration code
Encoders

Added new acceleration code that takes into account recent encoder changes to scale/accelerate encoder value changes

Podcast 245: Matthew Allum (ALM/Busy Circuits)

Published on Sep 16, 2018 20Objects

"From the second I saw the Akemie's Castle module, I knew I'd want to talk to its developer, Matthew Allum. What a module - and what a name! I knew there had to be stories about what was going on. I've also notices that almost every case I'm seeing has a Pamela's Workout module. Matthew let me try out a few modules, and now I understand why these are so ubiquitous: it has so much functionality (presented in such a clear fashion) that it has become central to my patches. So now it all makes sense.

Talking with Matthew was a breeze - he's into his work, but he's also thoughtful about how he works, and the ideas that turn into his modules. He's got a lot of new work coming out, but he's also working on improving existing devices - and making modules for himself and his friends, too.

If you haven't checked out the ALM/Busy Circuits range yet, you can do so at Matthew's web site: http://busycircuits.com/. This was a fun chat - enjoy!

"When I bought this a few years ago it had just been serviced by James Walker of Synth Repair Services.

It had also been fitted with a Kenton socket kit on the rear, providing CV, Gate and Filter mono mini-jack inputs - you can run a sequencer through it amongst other things. Normally I wouldn't approve of tinkering with classic models but in this case it really does add 'functionality' + the upgrade is discreet, professionally done and doesn't destroy the appearance..."

Ciat Lonbarde Tetrax Analog Touch Wood Synthesizer Organ

Side note: the auction description ends mentioning the Arturia Minibrute SE. As always be careful. When buying on eBay, be sure you actually buy through eBay for the buyer protection. If you take it offline for a "deal" you assume the risk.

"The Tetrax Organ follows a lineage of electronic musical instruments based on touch. It was redesigned once, as. It has four wooden bars that you press to express four oscillators within. Each oscillator has its own fine tuning slider, embedded right within its bar. Also, there is are two master pitch knobs, and two master chaos knobs. Each master chaos knob makes the instrument go from pure sawtooth tones to a nest of noise. It does this by gradually increasing modulation from one oscillator to the next in a circular pattern. The reason there are two of each knobs: the Tetrax is all about timbre modulation, by changing the upslope and downslope of triangle waves separately. So, for master pitch and chaos, there is a separate upwards and downwards knob. In general, Tetrax is for funky bass and complex tones, while is for sweet melodies. Of course they all have noise available at any point!

There are 28 modulation points brought forth as banana jacks. They are arranged in four columns, representing the four bars. Their layout is shifted diagonally, to allow inputs in proximity to outputs. This is for touch-playability; you can make banana jack metal studs that can be squished by hand to gesture-patch the instrument. Inputs are cool colors: blue, green, and grey. Outputs are hot colors: red and orange. The grey jacks are parallel inputs with the master knobs: the two on the left are for master pitch, the right two are master chaos. The color allotment for each bar is as follows:
Two orange jacks, representing the press and release gestures on that bar in voltage.
One red jack, which is the pure triangle output of that oscillator.
Two green jacks, that are "glitch" inputs. They cause the boundary conditions of each oscillator to wire to the output of another. A modulation inspired by circuit bending.
One blue jack, an fm modulation input for that oscillator.
The Tetrax organ has a stereo-mini output on the back. This is because each bar, outputs in different channels during the press/release cycle. In addition to the stereo-mini jack, it has an power switch, and optional built-in batteries, or an external, 9volt battery snap."
