OP-Z Ambient Music

"An experiment in sequencing on the op-z: I live recorded everything with no regard to tempo, or groove. All the sequences are different lengths, too. I think it all lines up in a really beautiful way, and I hope you do too!"

Pre-Burns Scots Song (Session 3)

Published on Nov 13, 2018 Kris Lennox

"Nice set, this one. Good melodies.

For 'The Black Bird' I've went for a slightly raspy, bird-like sound. Silly, really, as the song isn't even about a bird! Still, it works well.

You've probably noticed I'm recording 10 works per video. Given the works are single-note melodies, they probably don't seem like too much work. But this is turning out to be quite an involved project i.e. creating an entirely new/original patch for each melody. Add on video editing etc, and it is quite a task. Projects like this normally have considerable financial support, but this is purely a personal project I'm investing my own free time into.

I have around 500 melodies to record. I plan on recording 10 videos (i.e. the first 100 works), after which I'll take a break from the project for a while. Disdain for the music could quite easily set in, given the scale. Better to take a step back. No rush, given the melodies have been around for a good few centuries!
