LamdbaSpeak 3 - Audio Playback over CPC Speaker & Serial Interface

Published on Apr 6, 2019 Michael Wessel

"LambdaSpeak 3 audio output can now also be sent back into the CPC to be played over the CPC's internal speaker, using mono SND pin of the expansion port. Hence, the final version of LambdaSpeak 3 will have 2 more DIP switches (one for left audio channel, one for right audio channel) that allow turning audio loop back on and off.

Also, the new serial mode seems to be working! LambdaSpeak 3 will have a new "serial" mode and 4 PIN headers (VCC, GND, TX, RX). In this mode, the hardware USART0 of the ATmega 644 will be used.

So far, there is a little test that initializes the USART, and then communicates with the Emic 2 speech synthesizer board on the little breadboard, connected over the 4 yellow wires (VCC, GND, TX, RX). The Emic 2 is connected to an amplifier. It uses a simple serial protocol (plain ASCII) which is being sent over the USART / serial connection. Seems to work!"

Akai S1000KB inspiration

Published on Apr 6, 2019 bitleyTM

"While the rack format was extremely popular for samplers back in the day, it must be said that having the keyboard version of the S-1000 instantly made it feel like a completely different instrument, hands on, easy to use and very fun to play. This particular S-1000 KB has been owned by the euro pop legend E-type and the diskdrive does currently not work. Therefore, I programmed three patches (that I can't save) which uses the four internal waveforms of the machine. Adding these was a brilliant move by Akai and I am sending my thanks for this. The patches were programmed as three programs with two samples per key group, thus making the programs 8 note polyphonic. The synthesizer engine may be limited (the filter is non resonant for instance) but it is none the less highly musical and exciting to befriend. I'm calling this improvised musical passage 'Akaiada'."

What is Transwave Synthesis?

Published on Apr 5, 2019 Fabbri's Midnight Librarians

Some beautiful sonic landscapes in the demo that comes in at 4:00. I always thought of transwave synthesis as Enoniq's implementation of wavetable synthesis. In this tutorial it's portrayed as a bit closer to granular synthesis. The idea of wavetable synthesis is to morph between single cycle waveforms in a wavetable. In the example above he is morphing through a sample.

"In this video I illustrate the basic concept behind transwave sound synthesis. At the end I demonstrate an evolving ambient soundtrack which uses these basic concepts with some LFO, Envelopes, and on-board effects.

I followed Robin Bausewein's excellent tutorial (method 2) here:" [second video just posted here]

Roland D-10 Linear Synthesizer (1988) Tutorial

Published on Feb 6, 2016 Robin Bausewein

"Here's a short tutorial on how to program the Roland D-series of synthesizers for some fuzzy, aggressive, digital and gritty sounds. Most demo's on these series show the ROM songs and nice and clean factory presets but there is more to these synths than that.

Enjoy!"

Elka Synthex, Roland Jupiter-8, Oberheim Xpander, and MKS-80 Comparison Covering the Same Track

Synthex Jp8 Xpander MKS80 - demo Published on Apr 5, 2019 Lackan

"A demo using the Elka Synthex, Jupiter 8, Xpander and MKS 80. The mix is totally without reverb or delay since I hate demos that are drenched in FX. This is what they sound like - raw.

I hope that this demo might show the different character of these synths. But since sound sculpting is so individual, this is just an example of how I use the instruments.

You might use them in a whole other way."
