"Fabulous analogue sequencer and synthesizer. For me its main strength is as a desktop SH101..LFO not quite as featured and no noise but it’s effectively a SH101 with a MC4 2 channel sequencer added! This has the added Kenton MOD which adds CV & gate (& filter) that bypasses the internal sequencer. Why is this important seeing as the MC202 already has some CV/gate sockets?? Well, the factory CV/Gate sockets are great for connecting to other synths in order to control them with the MC202 Sequencer. However, if you want to use the MC202 synth with an external sequencer it doesn’t; work so well and it is a little laggy as everything has to go via the MC202 in built sequencer brain which is probably 1kb! Kenton made this mod specifically so you can controller the MC202 synth engine from an external source. I used it with a SQ1 and Analogue Solutions Mega City step sequencer - much easier than the in built one!!!! Having said that the inbuilt sequencer is powerful once you get your head around it - 2 channels of CV/gate out and clock out and DIN sync out."

"Lovely, vintage synth from the 70’s. Imported from Modeless Factory in Japan last year - fully serviced and converted to UK voltage. Cosmetically and functionallymint and comes with original vinyl Yamaha branded gig bag.

Nice simple 1 Osc synth but sill has some unique features over even a CS10 - S&H for one! Somebody also incorrectly described this as a CS01 with full size keys - so wrong! Noise, Multimode analogue filer (BP/HP/LP), PWN, Noise, external input and LFO that can go to VCA, filter, Osc. Nice synth and lovely vintage sound."

Velocity & Aftertouch - How to control VCA/LFO/VCF with the MiniMod Eurorack Modular Synth

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"Some ideas and basic procedure for using keyboard velocity and aftertouch with the AJH Synth modular system. This can add a lot of expressiveness to your patches, all that's required is a keyboard controller that outputs these functions, whether it be a CV-equipped controller, or a MIDI/USB controller connected via a Midi to CV converter.

This video shows velocity being used to control VCA volume, aftertouch controlling LFO/vibrato amount, and both controlling filter frequency, but since this is modular these control signals can be used to manipulate pretty much anything that has a CV input. In some cases using it with the CV Mix will be particularly helpful to adjust the range of the controller's output to suit the intended target, allowing the CV to be simultaneously amplified, offset, inverted, and/or combined with other CV's.

I'm using an Arturia Keystep, which has a 'Mod' CV output - this can be configured in software to output either velocity, aftertouch, or the position of the 'mod wheel' touch strip.

Check out the AJH Synth playlists for more 'Patch of The Week' videos, which will be either performances or 'how to' guides detailing a range of sounds, some familiar, some less so, and each containing a patch sheet at the end to show you how to construct it for yourself.

NAMM 22: Krotos Studio - Prototype Sound Design Tool

video upload by sonicstate

"New for NAMM (in prototype) is Krotos Studio - its a tool for Sound Design. Making it easy to do foley using an XY pad for spotting footsteps or other foley type sounds, which are typically extremely time consuming.

Using the XY pad in Perform Mode, you can use gestures and mouse movements to translate into FX. Exports mixes, stems, layers into your final DAW environment. It will come with a large selection of sound sets, you can also put your own samples and sounds in Edit Mode.

Matt Collings demonstrates some of the concepts they are using in this new software.

NAMM 2022 - Sptifire + BT Polaris - Hybrid Scoring

video upload by sonicstate

"The recent release from Spitfire and BT is called Polaris. Its an orchestral Hybrid library with both an orchestral aspect, and a synthesized one, with a lot of additional synthesis options and synth samples. Its an impressive piece of work and taps into the Hybrid Score model which combines regular orchestral sounds with synthesized ones. BT is a master of this and so much of the library was recorded with the end goal in mind.

We spoke to Dan Keen about the library and got a few choice demo sounds.
Polaris is available now priced at £299"

NAMM 2022 - Nektar- Big Updates to Aura Pad Controller

video upload by sonicstate

"In the blissfully quiet ticket office we spoke with Niels from Nektar Tech - he showed us the Nektar Aura Pad Controller which has recently had a big OS update.
With a more immediate sound browsing channel strip access.
There's also a new Audio Tab in the broswer for extremely quick kit making on the pads, whether that s plug-in or a sample or an AU instrument.

Using the Nekarine plug-in, its possible to easily configure the pads to your custom layout. Also included are 500 kits to get you started which will load into the DP-1 drum player - included which is a fully featured sample playback engine, though of course you can put in Kontakt, Battery or any other instruments as you wish.

Aura update is available now (just released) free to existing Aura users (or Panorama T series owners): the Aura hardware is priced at £279
