Machina Bristronica 2023 // a Eurorack & Synth Event Walkthrough
video upload by DivKid
"Fresh out of Bristol, here's a walkthrough of the second Machina Bristronica event! It's "a festival of knobs, buttons & discussions" for Eurorack, synthesisers and music tech in general. With added interview & discussion stages, DIY workshops as well as performances and DJs rounding out the event.
I ran the DivKid interview stage (watch out for videos of the 7 interviews coming soon) but got chance in the morning to wonder around with a camera to give you a walk around of the event. Feel free to people and gear watch along as I take a walk through the venue."
See the Machina Bristronica label below for more.
Patch Tuesday | Analogue Accumulator with Step 8 & Route 4
video upload by Joranalogue Audio Design
"It's Patch Tuesday! Have you ever heard of an analogue accumulator? A 'battery for CV', an accumulator stores a voltage which can be charged or discharged in discrete steps.
In this ingenious feedback patch, every step taken by Step 8 adds or subtracts voltage, creating a rising or falling melody. Additionally, Step 8 sends CV to modulate multiple modules in the system, whilst also performing duty as a gate sequencer."

DB-01 Doom metal pedal test
video upload by Richard DeHove
"In guitarland many people have remarked how closely the Joyo Double Thruster pedal replicates the sound of the Darkglass B33K. Given that the B3K is one of my favorite pedals I bought an ugly Double Thruster to find out how it goes on synth. Originally I thought I'd do a straight comparison with waveform and frequency response blah blah but in the end it really came down to two things:
1) For me the B3K only has one 'sound' and you just dial in more or less of it. Excessive knob twiddling just degrades the effect
2) The Joyo captures about 95% of the B3K sound and has identical controls even down to the bass and mid-boost options and the feel of the footswitch
So forensic analysis seemed a bit pointless. Instead I did what many who lament mono-only pedals do: Run two identical pedals left and right to achieve a type of stereo. That worked pretty well imo and you can see the slight differences between left and right in the waveform display. I also did a quick A and B comparison, but please forgive me the video wobbles - my camera was badly clamped :/
I'm still not sure about the whole clone thing though. The ethics seem to be about defining who's being ripped off: The company or the consumer.

"This demo is a sneak peek of a refill pack for the OB-X8 that will add new sounds to the original Backlash soundset. You will find 24 new programs and 24 new doubles. The full pack is now 80 programs and 48 doubles.
The recording :
This audio recording uses no compression or EQ.
Some sounds have been recorded full dry, others have different type of reverbs. Some few others have a bit of delay. You have details of FX used on each extract.
For the drums parts, a Roland TR-8S has been used, loaded with samples recorded from the Backlash set. Some are raw, others have been edited to give more differents types of sounds.
This refill pack also provides these additionnal one shot drums and basses samples of the OB-X8 in wave format.

Diary #11 : Berlin School | Sound Design | Novation Summit
video upload by Synth Seeker
"Breaking down some sound design on the Novation Summit. I tend to make one patch and then create variations on that for different articulations (Lead/Pad/Arp).
Here's we'll walk through some spacey sounds I made on the Novation Summit. :)"
