3rd Wave // Keyboard vs Desktop
video upload by Starsky Carr
"The Groove Synthesis 3rd Wave Desktop and Keyboard versions are pretty much identical... but so many have asked what the differences are, snd why I bought the desktop.. and have now gone for the keyboard version... I thought I'd put this little explanation together.
The big differences are price, size, keys and paint job.. the interface is very similar and I don't feel like there's more menu diving on the desktop. If you need to use the menus then its the same on both."
Ensoniq ESQ-1 soundscape II - Moonwatchers
video upload by MIDERA
"I still can't get over how good that Kawai SX-240 was... that filter sounded so good. I keep looking through my library of synths and wonder 'can this one get there?' And the answer here was: no. The ESQ has very 'steppy' behavior in the LFOs and envelopes, not very smooth. It does its own thing (well, I might add). It's different. It's good. It's unique. I do enjoy it.
This was one of the hardest videos to make - I was so tired working on it that I almost fell asleep writing it and trying to sync up the video to the audio! I thought it was all correct and I uploaded it and the audio was still not synced up properly! Went back and had to do it again. Sigh... Well, I think it's ok now.

Oct Tone | by the Glasgow Synth Guild
video upload by Cinematic Laboratory
"I had a short moment of confusion when the Oct Tone was presented to a wide audience. I knew the Octone from Qu-Bit, but nobody shared a bit of how this came to be, except that it was a Jason Lim design. It's obvious the new Oct Tone also comes from the people behind Instruo and I learned that the Glasgow Synth Guild is an entity that manufactures modules/hardware. So Instruo is now a GSG client which makes a lot of sense in the volatile economy of the roaring 20's. I think it's excellent risk management, but I am also aware I am speculating. Anyway, the Oct Tone is a Jason Lim redesign of the module he designed when he still was a Qu-Bit co-founder. So it all makes perfect sense if you unravel the whole story. Still, I took the creative liberty to call it a 'shadow module'. It kind of sounds cool, no drama intended.
It also explains why it's not a regular Instruo module, considering it does not fit Instruo's company vision of making state-of-the-art originals. It's also rumoured Jason prefers all kind of CV running through quantizers while avoiding the use of sequencers. So my final speculation is that the Oct Tone may be the only sequencer you'd get with an Instruo look and feel. I love it.
The Oct Tone is exclusively available from the UK, so beware of shipping and Brexit tax. But if you're an Instruo fan, it's a must have module."
Chord Trigger for Korg Polysix and Poly61
video upload by Florian Anwander
"An add-on pcb expands the Korg Polysix and Korg Poly61. An external analogue trigger-signal triggers the actually played chords.
The pcb is available at https://www.florian-anwander.de/korg_..."
The chord trigger was featured on the site back in 2015 here.
Update: The video above appears to be the same Vimeo video in the prior post, just uploaded to YouTube. Leaving this post up for anyone that may be interested.
Crumar BIT DCO clone with added functionality
video upload by Craig Barnes
"This dual DCO is based on the counter/resistor ladder technique used in the Crumar Bit series of polyphonic synthesizers, the 8253c triple counter has been replaced by a Waveshare Zero RP2040 based SOC. This allows the Waveshare to receive MIDI and calculate portamento etc. The only thing I want to add is an interval for DCO2 to set things like 5ths up in the DCO pair. Each DCO currently has 4 waveforms, Saw, PWM, Triangle and SUB. Although I might reduce that down by removing a triangle and SUB from either side. It was designed as a DCO core for a monosynth or a poly depending on needs."

Ultra Analog: GRP A2 - Carlo Mezzanotte
video upload by carlomezz
"(testo italiano in basso)
Here's some tweaking on the GRP A2, an Italian high-end analog synth module with a great sound. VCO1 can produce the usual waves, plus 'sharktooth' (a triangle/saw hybrid), and a saw/square hybrid with PWM; VCO2 has an all-analog version of the 'supersaw' concept, that can also be applied to triangle and 'sharktooth' waves.
The filter is a two-pole multimode with lowpass, bandpass, highpass and notch - plus a lowpass/highpass in parallel stereo.
The A2 offers flexible modulation routings via a series of selector knobs, without the use of patch cords.
The signal path is totally analog, including the LFOs, envelopes and S&H.
I couldn't resist adding a *very* slight bit of ambient effect. No other processing was used.
Many thanks to Paolo Groppioni, the A2 designer, for entrusting me with the instrument to review.
