Joe Satriani's Drum Machine

video upload by Alex Ball

"Whilst the E-mu SP machines are most famous for their use in Hip-hop, they were used by numerous artists in different genres and in different ways.

To that end, I thought it would be interesting look at why and how it was used on Joe Satriani's 1987 album "Surfing with the alien".

A note - I am aware that playing Joe Satriani songs on an Ibanez JEM is like doing a video about Spider-Man whilst dressed as Batman, but the JEM is the guitar I have. 😀

This is impressive! // Time Machine from Olivia Artz Modular (OAM) [ambient eurorack fx]

video upload by DivKid

"I love a good delay and this has been a great delay that’s given a wide range of musical results. The Time Machine from OAM (Olivia Artz Modular) is a multi-tap delay with various timing, spread and clocking options as well as the ability to create custom blends on 8 delay taps and time divisions. This led to designing custom reverb ambiences and even finding a ‘Dynamic Rhythm Designer’ that allowed for making hi hat and bass rhythms in an intriguing way. Lots of links and the timing below. Have at it!"

► Tweakery Mayhem on Gaia-2 ► Evil / Moody / Introspective sounds by Jexus.

video upload by Jexus (sounds-for-synths.com)

"An ultra-fast demo of some more aggressive, dark & experimental timbres than in my 2 previous videos. All sounds come from the 'Jexus Gaia-2 Soundset' with 300 custom presets / patches & all sequences that you hear."

"The presets are named “number + WCOG” (for example “185_WCOG”). The soundpack comes as a file in Roland SVZ format. Just copy the file from your computer onto a memory stick and import it to your Gaia-2. Warning: not every USB stick works with Gaia-2 : check if you have a compatible one or if you need to buy a new one. You don’t need to install any Roland expansions for these presets. A standard factory unit of Gaia-2 is enough!

In this video I used some EQ-ing and / or external reverb on selected sounds (in very small amounts). Other than that everthing you hear comes from the Gaia-2 engine (no additional flanger, chorus, distortion, no layering, etc.)"

"This video covers the Behringer Four LFO module. The video is focused on musical uses for the four operational modes of the module. It is not a complete "how to" for the entire user interface.
Here is a link to the Four LFO Quick Start Guide. See pages 10-13 for details of the 'rules' of the user interface.

1 Hour Improvisation with Eurorack Modular Synths & Midicake

video upload by midicake

"An hour long, unplanned improv session with Midicake ARP and a very limited Eurorack setup.

Consisting of just 4 synths: 2hp Kick, 2hp Pluck, Knobula Pianophonic, Knobula Polycinematic. The Specular Tempus is providing reverb.

It's surprising just what variation you can get with this small setup. The sound is recorded as is with no post editing. I hope you enjoy!"
