Yamaha TX-816 FM Rack Synthesizer (8 DX-7s in a rack) with Beetle PR-7 Programmer The Yamaha TX816 is a monster of DX and FM digital synthesis. It is a unique system in that it is a rack unit that could take up to eight TF1 modules. A TF1 module is basically a DX7 condensed down to a single circuit board with almost no front panel controls. Definitely designed for use with external hardware and software controllers, the TX816 allows you to easily carry around up to eight DX7s! Software such as MOTU Unisyn, Emagic SounDiver, or even another DX7 can be used to program the sounds in each module via MIDI. This unit contains eight TF1 modules. A TF1 module is basically a DX7 condensed down to a single circuit board. Each TF1 module consists of a 16-voice, 6-operator digital FM synth engine. So this complete TX816 with all eight TF1 modules offers up to 128 voices and 48 operators! Each TF1 also features an independent audio out (XLR) and MIDI I/O for a total of eight audio outputs and MIDI I/O's. It also has one global MIDI in/out port with 8-part multitimbrality, but no common stereo or mix output. The TX816 is fully compatible with all other DX synthesizers including Native Instruments FM7 software-based plug-in. You can use the TX816 like it's eight seperate DX7s or mix and pan each module together to layer your sounds into one monstrous DX powerhouse!

VEMIA is Peter Forrest's auction house. He is the author of The A-Z of Analogue Synthesizer Books. "This potentially wonderful instrument is silent at the moment. We have had it here for two years or so, but time has run out and it needs to go to another person who can finish off the process of getting it 100% again. It had power supply and disk drive issues. We have replaced the disk drive with an HxC drive, which contains everything that was on the floppies. Most of the OS floppies seem to have been corrupt or non-functioning. There is more work that needs to be done to the power supply / supplies. Both supplies are switchable 110/240V. The gas struts which should support the Grapher at an angle have given up holding up anything, and need to be replaced.
Cosmetically there is one superficial scratch above the Grapher's LED matrix, and the Solitary case front is not in brilliant cosmetic order.
It is serial number 990-0004-151. As there were apparently less than 40 of these made, I'm not sure why it has a long serial number. It has its original manual, original floppy disks in a case, the stunningly solid (military-grade?) custom flightcase, and the redundant (faulty) disk drive.
We believe this version is a Studio System, with eight voices (all with individual outs) and including the all-important Acxelizer for control and creation of voices.
There is some good info online. For instance EMEAPP published this great rundown: https://emeapp.org/2019/11/19/the-technos-acxel-resynthesizer/"
See this post for demos from the creator of the Acxel Resynthesizer. Also see the Technos label for additional posts including demos.

"Extremely rare in this black livery, this is one of only a few that were exported to the USA. One of them was bought by Frank Zappa. Zappa's was recently sold at auction for $1905, despite seeming to have no visible sliders. This example here is in similar cosmetic condition, but has its slider stalks and thus can be controlled! We will be trying to source slider tops correct for the era and make - watch this space. 117V, so how it found its way back to Europe is a bit of a mystery. More info when known. Like many Hohner instruments, it is tatty on the outside, but the playing surface (protected by its lid) is very good. Also of course the heavy-duty case and lid make it a seriously heavy instrument. Packing 18GBP."
