Synthesizing with Moog | Lesson 1: Listening
video upload by Moog Music
Synthesizing with Moog
"'Synthesizing with Moog' invites you on an enlightening journey that answers a complex question: how exactly do synthesizers work? https://inmusic.to/bdhnff3m
In this first episode we go back into twentieth century history to understand the origins of electronic music, discussing concepts like modular design and voltage control to learn how they combined to make the synthesizer instrument we know and love today. We then pose some questions to try and understand how listening works. How is sound created in the air? What does a speaker do and how does a synthesizer control it? How does the ear work? And finally, how do our brains perceive the sound around us? Listening, after all, is the foundation of any musical practice.
Written, hosted, filmed, and produced by our team of electronic musical instrument experts, this new seven-part educational video series makes learning the fundamentals of synthesis accessible, engaging, and inspiring for anyone curious about science, music, and how the two worlds converge. We set out to create a series that brings you as much technical knowledge as it does entertainment and joy as you watch each episode!
We invite you to follow along with us at home with a printable worksheet corresponding to the contents of each weekly episode. https://inmusic.to/bdhnff3m

TEAL - Post-Rock Electronic #20 // Modular, Analog Four, Pro3, Piano and Guitar
video upload by David Falcon
"El proceso de este tema fue algo raro, ya que empezó de forma muy inmediata pero tuve que ahondar bastante en el tema hasta considerarlo terminado.
La base inicial con el modular fue creada in situ pero cuando lo estaba mezclando me di cuenta que necesitaba instrumentación adicional.
Primero añadí piano y bajo con el Pro 3. Luego experimentando en la parte de en medio surgió un tema Post-Rock con batería y guitarra.
(eng)
This piece was a strange one, as it started very quickly but had to dig deeper to finish it.
The initial part with Eurorack was created on the spot but when mixing I found that some extra instrumentation would be welcome.
First I added piano and bass with the Sequential Pro 3 (I use it less often than I should). Later on I started experimenting on the middle part and ended up as a full on post-rock song, with drums and guitars."

TOM-1501 Soviet Analog Synthesizer - Restored Beauty
video upload by LFOstore
"Russian synths are awful and making terrible harsh and strange sounds?
If you think so, then this will surprise everyone who is familiar with those synths. This is really fat, warm, beautiful sounding real analog, preset string machine.
It's a string machine with 5 preset sounds: Piano, clavesin/Harpsichord, Alto, Violin and Brass.
Alto and Violin are exactly same sound but violin is one octave higher than alto, so you can make "string orchestra" sound.
Mainly I discovered this to be like Crumar Orchestrator/Multiman-s clone. Piano and clavesin/harpsichords are pretty identical sounding, but... Strings aren't typical "Italic" sounding which can be found on all crumar and some others string machines, Neither european (solina) or american (Moog opus) sounding.
They are Unique! They are Fat! They are Warm! They are very beautiful sounding strings. Well... comparing to others, solina is the closest sound to it.
Brass is also pretty identical to Crumar Orchestrator, but it have identical filter from Crumar Performer (very weak resonance). Too bad because in orchestrator it could make such a great sweeps, but this cannot do same. But the cutoff is powerful.
Also, this string machine isn't commonly available. I don't know how many was produced, but the original retail price was $1500!!! So maybe this is indeed very rare, uncommon at least. These were made about in middle or end of 80's.
See these virtual soundsheet of Crumar Orchestrator and peformer. The sounds of Orchestrator's piano and clavesin/harpsichord and brass is identical to this TOM-1501. And the filter from Crumar performer is also identical."

The Jupiter 6 is a fantastic analog polysynth that's a little bit of an underdog compared to its siblings the 4 and the 8! However, it is very powerful and is likely overlooked due to the immense fame of the others. Its a dual VCO 6 voice with cross mod capabilities, sync, and triangle, square and saw waveforms. The filter section includes standard low pass but also band pass and high pass operation. The filter envelope routing is not preset so envelope 1, 2, or both can be assigned to control the it! The LFO section is fully featured including a random output and onset delay. Of course there is full preset saving and plenty of performance oriented controls. The one downside is that it does not include chorus or ensemble like many of the other Roland polys! It does have the coolest color scheme and those futuristic aluminum sides though. The external analog ins include arpeggiator clock in, patch shift, pedal hold and CV for the VCA and VCF. Of course it has MIDI as well so there is tons of interfacing available.
This synth is in great working condition and was just serviced by our in house technician. Cosmetically, the unit has a noticeable dent on the rear panel and a smaller one on the front underside. These imperfections are purely aesthetic and do not affect performance. In addition to the dents, the serial number plate has been removed. Please refer to the detailed photos for a closer look.

"The Fender Chroma Polaris II Model 2123B is a rare, 6-voice hybrid analog/digital synthesizer that followed the original Chroma and Polaris models. It features dual Curtis CEM3374 oscillators per voice, along with a sub-oscillator and noise generator. A Curtis CEM3372 4-pole low-pass filter is used for each voice, offering rich analog filtering. The synth includes oscillator sync, ring modulation, two envelope generators, LFO modulation, and flexible analog routing options. It has a 61-note velocity-sensitive keyboard with support for layering, splits, patch storage, and a basic onboard sequencer.
The Model 2123B was primarily produced for the Japanese market with a 100V power supply but is functionally identical to other Polaris II units.
Includes original paperwork from Fender, preset cassette tape, user manuals, sustain pedals and accessory cables as shown. Tested in wonderful working condition, showing average cosmetic wear from age -- but it very clean overall. Recently serviced in-house...
Service notes:
-Cleaned and resoldered switch panel connectors (PCB side)
-Cleaned key contacts
-Replaced primary filter capacitors in power supply
-Checked tuning and calibration and adjusted as necessary"
