Buchla 250e sequencer - first impressions

Published on Apr 24, 2013 DJjondent·191 videos

"My first play with the 250e - The Dual Arbitary Function Generator
Just using it as a standard analog sequencer in this video.... learning all about this very deep module.......much more that just a sequencer.

Other Modules used here:
258v - Verbos dual VCO
291e - Triple morphing filter
254v - Quad Voltage Processor
261e - Complex Waveform generator
292e - Quad dynamics Manager
281e - Quad Function Generator
294 - 4 channel Comb filter
207 - 6 channel mixer/pre amp

The 291e is being used as an extra VCO by feeding outputs 1 & 2 back into
their inputs.
The 258v is the sweetest sounding VCO."

Buchla Improv: Buchla Blip Beats

Published on Feb 18, 2013 djangosfire·93 videos

"A few patch details:

- Channel "C" of 292 is in a feedback loop... creating an LFO that I'm using as a clock source.

- Clock source from 292 is sent and split into 2x channels of the 230.

- Clock pulse from 230 Ch A is sent to QRV of the 266.

- 2x separate outs of 266 QRV are sent to their own CV input of the 258

- 258 sent out through 2x channels of the 292.

- 230 Pulse Outs from Chan A & B are sent to Ch A & B of the 292

- 292 channels 1 & 2 (the 258 VCO outs) are sent to the 207 - one channel input #1 and the other to input channel #6 (these 2x 207 channels allow fro voltage controlled panning).

- same pulse from 230 Ch A is sent to 266 SRV.

- SRV is sent through the 266 Integrator (for glide/slew) then off to the 207 CV panning of CH 1 & 6.

- 258 VCO#1 is sent into FM of VCO#2... adjusted to taste.

- Noise +3 out for 266 is sent to FM in of 258 VCO#1... adjusted to taste.

- manual switch flipping and adjustments of the 230/207 real time to crazy rhythms

Blips and Bleeps ensue..........."

one oscillator improv

one oscillator improv from todd barton on Vimeo.

"a short improv using only a single Buchla 259e as the sound source. Shaping, sculpting and processing the sounds created on the 259e through a 207 mixer, a Boss RC-20 Loop Station and an Eventide Space reverb."

vintage buchla 207

"at long last (eight years on the hunt!), my 200 series has found it's last piece.

i am only so fortunate because of the generosity of a fellow buchlaist - a person of particularly magnificent designs.

i've no words for this sort of kind gesture, only gratitude."

Buchla Mixers on Buchla Tech

"With the release of the Buchla 206e, there's been some chatter about mixers. Evidently some people wanted to have the patch storage, but not the MIDI control for their 200e. But people more like me said they would like a 1 space all analog mixer for their system. This got me thinking, "what have the mixers been so far?"

206 "elegant" 2 x 3 channel mixers that are also summed to operate as a mono 6 channel one. It has mute and monitor switches on all channels.

205 2 x 5 in 4 out matrix mixers that also sum to make a simple 10 in 4 out one. Monitor switches on each input channel. Not exactly small at 3 panel spaces.

207 jam packed 6 input stereo mixer with manual pan on 4 channels and CV pan on 2. Pre amp. Monitor and mute switches on all channels. Monitor output on the front.

The 226 and 227 are quad interfaces that for the purpose of this discussion are irrelevant."

Buchla

"here's a picture of a buchla 500 that i've never seen posted before. it's most buchla 200 stuff, that 500 series keyboard controller, and the 300 series patchbay (same as in ciani's) and osc bank (i think, i forget what david told me it was, it's in his 300 too). got it from the buchla 700 group. there's some other shots there too.

top: 281, 292, 227, 207, 257
middle: #, 296, %, 266, 285, 230
proprietary 500 keyboard controller

# - 500/300 series wavetable osc right? i forget, corrections?
% - 500/300 series patchbay, for get the numbers, similar two the 228-2 (228-1?) or the strips; used in Ciani's 300

Here's a link to a set i played with easel player charles cohen if your interested. i've been trying to get him to do some sound samples or youtube vids. its under br'er and Charles Cohen" [under Music on the right - the track features the Buchla Music Easel]

Buchla 207

via this auction

This one is being auctioned off by Ezra Buchla, Don Buchla's son.

"This is a Buchla model 207 mixer and preamplifier from the 200 series, made sometime in the early 1970's. It is quite rare and consists of all original components.

The mixer section includes 6 input channels, 4 of which have manual control over location, and two of which have voltage control of location. This section also includes a third, independently switchable mono output bus.

The pre-amplifier section has a single 1/4" input, three switchable gain/impedance settings and a potentiometer for finer gain control."
