FIGHT & FLIGHT / full system generative 'horror' patch / singing bowl research / farewell Steven

video upload by BRiES

"I started this patch by trying to mimic the tone and frequency beating of a Tibetan singing bowl. Triangle waves seem to be the best match for generating the 'odd' overtones. I used two of them tuned almost to the same frequency to produce a slow beating. One is panned left and one is panned right. I had to run this pair through a LPF to get rid of a lot of the top end fizz.

The other sounds are a bunch of resonating filters and VCOs through Beads tuned up a major 7th with a lot of wet grains fed back to the input. There's some automation going on in terms of gating these, controlled by an output of COMPARE 2 (analyzing ORBIT 3) through a counter (ERFURT).

This week (29th of october) Steven (one of the residents of a farm sanctuary) passed away after a long and hard fight. It's weird and confusing how these events thousands of miles away can still hit you. RIP Steven."

Xaoc Devices ERFURT / not just for counting and dividing / extensive playthrough

video upload by BRiES

"In this video I demonstrate how you can use ERFURT either standalone or in the context of the Leibniz Binary Subsystem. I talk about the clock, the inputs and outputs and show you how to extract useful signals from the module. ERFURT isn't just an ordinary counter or clock divider: it can drive the wavetables in JENA, produce sequences through DREZNO or lock the Leibniz system to the masterclock of your patch... to name just a few examples.

PS: I mention somewhere that the slowest clock is a 1/46k but it should be 1/64k. It's a simple mispronunciation because of how numbers work in the dutch language (we say the last number first - ridiculous I know).

Audanika, developers of the iOS touchscreen instruments SoundPrism and SoundPrism Pro have today released a new version of their popular apps featuring new MIDI control features (Pro only) and support for the new gorgeous display of the new iPad. Furthermore SoundPrism Pro is now also compatible to the DSMI standard which lets it connect to Mac, Windows and even Linux systems.

To get a better idea of the amazing possibilities of SoundPrism Pro’s MIDI control features take a look at our YouTube video here.

Soundprism Pro can connect with your PC/Mac via a wireless network or USB MIDI using the iPad Camera Connection Kit. It is available for $7.99 (50% sale from $15.99 for a limited time) whilst the standard app is a free download.

"Audanika did it again - a little revolution for iOS mobile musicians. With SoundPrism 2.3 you can use your iOS device as a complete music studio. Using virtual Core MIDI it is now possible to interconnect apps and use them parallel. What about SoundPrism, NLog Synth and MoDrum?"

"Erfurt, Germany, September 15th 2011

Audanika, developer of the popular iPhone/iPad instrument and MIDI controller SoundPrism is pleased to announce the release of SoundPrism Pro 2.3. SoundPrism Pro 2.3 goes beyond the limits of iOS music making. It’s the begin of a new era of mobile music creation!

SoundPrism Pro 2.3 is now able to interconnect with other music apps via virtual Core MIDI. MIDI notes and controller data generated by SoundPrism Pro can now be sent to synthesizer apps running in the background. With this step iOS devices become modular creative studios. No additional hard and software is needed anymore.

One special synthesizer app that can be controlled via SoundPrism Pro is TempoRubato‘s NLog. NLog is an extensive synthesizer that provides multiple high quality synthesis modules, SoundCloud upload, Audio and MIDI Export as well advanced real time control. Thus NLog and SoundPrism Pro complete each other perfectly: NLog provides a high quality analog audio synthesis to SoundPrism Pro and vice versa SoundPrism Pro provides a highly intuitive musical user interface to NLog. A demonstration video can be found at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7Sb3KUBrq8.

For existing users SoundPrism 2.3 comes as a free update for both standard and Pro versions from the iOS App store. Please note that the virtual Core MIDI features stated above are only available in SoundPrism Pro available for $15.99/£9.49/12,99 EUR.

SoundPrism has been downloaded over 250,000 times and both versions have scored full marks in app store reviews across the world, further proof that the app continues to inspire musicians and producers everywhere to interact with sound in an innovative new way.
