Vintage ElectroComp EML-300 Manual Controller\Manual Voltage Generator

"Vintage 1970's ElectroComp EML-300 blue face controller unit.

The ElectroComp 300 from EML is a controller unit with a basic synthesizer, sequencer keyboard with numeric buttons and control knobs.

The 300 is divided in 3 sections. On the left is a switch patch panel. the mid section has a VCO with envelope generator, and the right side has 16 numerical buttons that trigger notes as an alternative to a keyboard.

The 300 needs to be used with one of the EML models such as the 200 or 400 models. It draws it's power from the connected model. EML offered the unit as an alternative to using a keyboard with their modules.
Overall in good shape, it does have scratches on the wood casing, mostly on the back, sides and corners.

I did have them checked out, and had the necessary repairs\cleaning done to make them functional.

The unit was cleaned and tested. All the jacks, connections, and potenciometers were cleaned and checked.(Per the repair technician)"

"EML 200 is keyboard-less, making it more like an Expander module designed to interface directly with other EML equipment. Most notably, with the Model 300 manual controller which offered a 4x4 key matrix, pitch knobs, and an oscillator with envelope generator and VCA of its own. Today, you can use the 200 with analog synths other than EML with the properly modified CV/Gate connections and converters (its oscillators are a non-standard 1.20v/oct).

It does power up and the red power light is on in the pictures.

Overall in very good shape, with some scratches on the sides and back panel.

I did have them checked out, and had the necessary repairs\cleaning done to make them functional.

The unit was cleaned and tested. All the jacks, connections, and potenciometers were cleaned and checked.(Per the repair technician)

The sample and hold were repaired on this unit.

All original."

"This is a very rare manual controller for the EML-200. We paid our tech for 11 hours of skilled labor required to make this unit work like new again. It’s in beautiful condition, working perfectly and ready for its next owner."

Only one other has been featured here back in 2012 along with the equally rare EML-300.

From Reel to Web - July 29-31 Part 3 - Vintage Moog Modular on Texas TV WFAA

Published on Jul 31, 2019 SMU Jones Film

This one spotted and sent in via John L Rice: "Starts at 4:10. No sound until about 4:40. There is other political and traffic accident coverage before and after the Moog section. Moog content ends about 8:25. Keep in mind that sound is often poor quality and cuts in and out."

If anyone knows who that is in the video, feel free to comment.

Update: “That's Merrill Ellis. He's one of the first Moog customers (2 systems and later add-on's) as well as one of the first to take them out live. Pretty important guy from NTSU in Denton TX.”

EML ElectroComp 200

via this auction

"This EML-200 is fully functional, extensively serviced, and in good condition, though it does not include the lid. Recent service includes recapped power supply and all new 1/4" jacks. A matching EML 300 will be available for an additional cost.

The EML 200 is a monophonic modular synthesizer released in 1969 by the connecticut based company Electronic Music Laboratories. It features 2 oscillators, hi pass & low pass filters, ring modulators, LFO, sample & hold, mic preamp, mixer with stereo panning, and built in spring reverb. This is a very raw sounding synth with features and a layout that are inclined to the experimental."

"A classic and somewhat rare analog modular synth. Fooling around here with the sample and hold."

via this auction

"An all-original Electronic Music Laboratories ElectroComp EML-200. This is a prime, collector-grade example of a rare analog modular synthesizer. Cosmetically extremely clean, and fully functional. A pot or two is noisy, but nothing requiring more than a cleaning. Comes with four original Switchcraft patch cords.
The Model 200 was introduced in 1969, with a blue panel. This is is the second version, with the silver panel. Serial #05XX. This is the cleanest example you're likely to find."

Blue EML 200 Modular Analog Synth

"Here is a very rare vintage analog modular synth from EML called the EML 200 Modular System. From the makers of the Electrocomp comes a more flexible unique sounding synth! The condition is very good with some minor chips in the paint that are barely noticeable from a distance. It's a beautiful blue synth! Very few were made and even fewer were blue (most were silver/plain). Note this is not 1/volt per octave but EML's own scaling and it does not include a keyboard so it's more for processing and special effects (unless you can find an EML keyboard or some other trick with a CV to midi converter and scaling)."
