Circuit Bent Kawai K1m sequenced by Circuit

Published on Dec 4, 2017 HardtekStudios

"I Circuit Bent this Kawai K1m e few years back, but have barely used it. So it is time to pull it out, hook it up and make some crazy noise with it! Somehow, over the years, it has developed a glitch where it has a pulsing sound with any patch that has a lot of sustain and release, so I guess you can call it perm-bent. It still is very usable, and even without any bend it sounds pretty good. The Novation Circuit is sequencing the K1m via midi. Circuit is also providing the drums."

"This Circuit Bent Kawai K1m has 5 additional switches that create different tonalities and can SIMULATE bit crushing FX, Octaving FX, Ring Modulation, etc. THERE IS A GLITCH THAT CAUSES LONG, SUSTAINED SOUNDS TO HAVE A PULSING EFFECT TO THEM. NO MATTER THE POSITION OF THE SWITCHES. To turn off all bends, switches must be pointing to the left/outside end of case with the exception of the 2nd to bottom switch.

This synth comes from the 80's and has been user modified to have extra switches that can "scramble" the digital information that makes up the sound. The switches only affect sound, they don't affect any other operation of the unit, so it still reacts as it should and responds to midi very well."

Analog Experiments 9 (Novation Circuit Mono Station thru Moog Ring Modulator)

Published on Nov 16, 2017 HardtekStudios

"In this chapter of 'Analog Experiments', I run the Novation Circuit Mono Station's audio out into the audio in of the Moog Moogerfooger Ring Modulator. Then the Mono Station's CV pitch out is routed into the Ring Mod's Frequency input. Finally, the Mono Station's Aux CV out is routed into the Mix CV in of the Ring Mod with the Mono Station's Velocity controlling the amount of wet/dry signal, but in negative. So the softer the Velocity the more Ring Mod signal is put out."

Analog Experiments 8 (Novation Circuit Mono thru Moog MuRF)

Published on Nov 9, 2017 HardtekStudios

"The Novation Circuit Mono Station audio out is routed into the audio in of the Moog MuRF. The MuRF turns it into a stereo signal that is routed init my Mackie Onyx mixer feeding Logic for recording. Lots of gate/cv stuff too. The Circuit Mono's sync out is routed into the MuRF's step/tap in to sync the filter sequencer to the Circuit Mono's tempo. I occasionally tweak the MuRF's Rate knob to scramble the tempo before it automatically resyncs. The C-Mono's LFO is routed to the aux CV out, which is routed to the CV in of the MuRF's Envelope. Throughout the jam, I increase the LFO about from zero to get some really interesting and percolating sounds."

Something Dark in the Woods

Published on Sep 28, 2017 HardtekStudios

"With summer dying and fall taking over, the creepy things have begun to spread. In this track the Tom Cat and Circuit Mono Station are run thru the TP-2 for some Tube Overdrive & Optical Compression. The Circuit is playing clean. All tracks run thru the Mackie Onyx mixer and then recorded into Logic. Once in Logic, everything is mixed using Compression, EQ and a reverb send. Everything is synced via midi."

Flight of the Fractyler (Circuit Mono Station & Rhythm Wolf)

In this track, I have the Wolf's Synth Out routed into the Circuit Mono Station's audio input. The Wolf bass is playing a different melody than the C-Mono, so there is some trippy layering going on. There is a lot of the Filter Overdrive, so the different mixer sources start distorting in interesting ways. The ending gets really twisted so stay tuned to the end! Both instruments where recorded into Logic and mixed with EQ, compression & a bit of verb!"

Circuit Mono Driver (Novation Circuit Mono Station thru Moog MF Drive)

Published on Aug 27, 2017 HardtekStudios

"For this Circuit Mono Station jam, I run the audio out of the C-Mono into the MF Drive pedal for extra distortion and to utilize the analog Moog filter. The Aux CV on the C-Mono is sending the Evvelope to the MF Drive to control the filter. The C-Mono is using a High Pass filter, while the MF Drive is using a Low Pass filter. So I am essentially using a serial Band Pass filter. also taking advantage of C-Mono's Osc Sync."

Bumbling Bass Blips (Novation Circuit Mono Station)

Published on Aug 23, 2017 HardtekStudios

"Still having fun just making weird lil blips & bloops with this supposed "Bass Synth"! Still haven't used the Mod sequencer, recorded any knob tweaks, or hooked it up to other modular gear or FX. Gonna be a lot of videos experimenting with this one!"

Creeping Bass (Novation Circuit Mono Station)

Published on Aug 20, 2017 HardtekStudios

"My first recorded jam with the (still) new Novation Circuit Mono Station. To call this just a bass synth is really underestimating it's power. It does bass really good, but can do a lot of crazy stuff!"

Analog Experiments 7 (Tom Cat, Retroverb & TP-2)

Published on Jul 5, 2017 HardtekStudios

"The 'Analog Experiments' series have resumed, and there will be plenty more coming! For this installment, I break a common rule for running effects in series by running the Tom Cat thru the Vermona Retroverb reverb first, and then into the TP-2 for tube distortion and optical compression. This causes the reverb signal to combine with the drums for a super big sound. The Vermona Retoverb has a dedicated Attack/Decay envelope to control the reverb tail. I tweak the Decay knob a lot and the Wet/Dry mix knob for kewl reverb accents, along with other knobs."

Energy thru Kaoss (Volca FM thru KP3 w/ Tom Cat)

Published on May 31, 2017 HardtekStudios

"The Volca FM can create some very deep bass textures while still providing a wealth of upper harmonics creating a very full, energetic sound. To further complicate the sound, it is ran thru the KP3's Ring Modulator. This is all accompanied by the full sounds of the Akai Tom Cat analog drum machine."

The Weight of Mountains (Circuit, Timbre Wolf & TP-2)

Published on Apr 26, 2017 HardtekStudios

Time to bring back the Timbre Wolf for a track! For this song, I started with some heavy drums & backing synths from the Circuit. It is paired with the Timbre Wolf churning out three different tracks. The first track is going into the Korg TP-2 ch.1 for some nice tube overdrive. The 2nd Wolf track is going into ch. 2 for both tube overdrive and heavy optical compression. The 3rd is utilizing the built in analog distortion. All of this was recorded and mixed in Logic."

Timbre Wolf thru TP-2 Tube Pre & Compressor

Published on Apr 5, 2017 HardtekStudios

"In this video. I demonstrate how a little (or lot) of tube warmth and compression can make a huge difference in the sound of the Akai Analog line of instruments. Synth 1 of the Timbre Wolf is routed into channel 1 of the Korg TP-2 Tube Preamp for a healthy serving of tube overdrive to bring out the hidden harmonics of the synth. Synth 2 is routed into channel 2 of the TP-2 utilizing not only the tube overdrive, but getting well smashed by the built in Optical Compressor. I also tweak the synths a bit so you have more variety in sound to experience."
