Synthesizer von Gestern II

"A brand-new sealed example of the most beautiful book ever produced about synthesisers.

Hardback, top quality paper and reproduction, full colour printing on most pages, great photos by Dieter Stork, and authoritative, well-researched text by Matthias Becker.
In German, but still a huge amount of info and synth porn for a non-German-speaker.
146 pp, A4 size (nearly 12 x 8.5"). 750g (1lb 10oz) - a really solidly-made and well-bound book.

First edition, published 1995. This is the second (and bigger) of two volumes of the book, and covers a huge range of classic synthesisers.

PPG 1002 analogue monosynth - VEMIA

via this VEMIA auction

"Superb early rare interesting analogue monosynth in excellent condition. I can't imagine there is a much better example of this synth in the world. The CV in is a strange non-linear design, but tuning on its own keyboard is perfect. Thoroughly tested by Lucid Sound, some screws replaced, the whole instrument serviced and calibrated where necessary. It is in excellent cosmetic condition, with the panel almost faultless, and all knobs in original condition. One of the neat (EMS-like) 'magic eye' buttons has lost its iris, so that the orange bit doesn't disappear when it is switched off. The solid wood endcheeks show signs of its age, but look fine, and somehow right. The keyboard is level and in first-class condition. There is a bit of paint scraping on the back panel, visible in the photo, and the protective rubber shielding round the mains lead is slightly broken, and has been strengthened with gaffa tape. The mains lead itself is perfect and completely safe. Beautiful."

PPG 1020 - VEMIA

"Fascinating vintage synth, very rare, and certainly at the time considered an improvement on the earlier all-analogue 1002. But not perfect:- Here are Lucid's notes (they decided that with Moog modulars and Minimoogs to deal with they couldn't guarantee to get this mended in anywhere near quick enough time). 1. The keyboard decoding is not working correctly 2. The keyboard output voltage is FM modulated by some digital noise. However, raising the glide control stops this. In its defence: 3. The bottom key mechanism is broken but the key can still be played. 4. The filter, oscillators, LFO, envelopes and noise all work. 5. It makes an effective weird sound FX generator just as it is. 6. All CMOS decode stuff so probably fixable. So if you have access to technical knowhow, you could turn this into more than just a creator of unusual sounds."

Tangerine Dream Live on Barock 3 in 1976 on YouTube

via Frederic

Update via the comments:
REgardging the synth in the opening shot above the mellotron.
"The synth is a PPG monosynth - a 1002 or 1020 I think. There was a post on this blog about it a few months ago.

Lots more vintage TD on Youtube, it all seems to be from the same German TV program. Just search for 'Tangerine Dream Signale'."
