YouTube via GUGUG. RedSound Darkstar VA and Midiman controller.
"Gus and Fin's new direction! Is this the Ukulele New Wave?
Originally performed by Tubeway Army
If you want to see more in the same direction, then check out: Fin and Geishy in this one:"
Ukulele and Keyboards - Fade To Grey
"Fin pops round to see Geishy and does "Fade to Grey". Originally recorded by Visage in November 1980.
Filmed on location in Geishy's basement with subsequent backing bits added back in the comfort of the shed. Special thanks to Hazel for doing the French voiceover.

RedSound DarkStar XP2 Racked
via this auction
Anyone know what the knob on the top right of the rack ears is and how it connects to the XP2? I'm guessing a volume knob? The fact that it's just there is interesting. I mean, would you really notice it if it weren't there? I wonder how much it increased the cost.
Update: per the comments, turns out it's actually an input jack on the top right. Note there already is an input jack in the back.
# built in Chorus
# 8 voices with dual oscillators
# easy to program from front panel knobs and buttons
# Headphone Jack & 4 individual assignable outputs
# Joystick -great for live performance.
# Run external instruments through the filter & Chorus!
# stackable patches- you can stack sounds for a single, big monosynth sound

RedSound DarkStar XP2 - 8 voice / 5 part VA polysynth SN 00733
Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.
via this auction
"This is the “mk2” version with 2 pairs of 1/4” outs and external input, running OS ROM 1.11 as shown.
Totally ingenious synth and interface.
Each of the 5 parts can be assigned its own instrument specific demo pattern (baseline, lead, percussion, etc). You can pan each part and audition them from the front panel.
Filters are some of the gooiest early 2000s and tone is full of character even if not all the presets are your thing.
Almost every feature is available immediately from dedicated controls or a shift function. Most of the shift functions are on the panel but a handful take a peek in the manual before they become 2nd nature."

Redsound Darkstar Synth & Vocoda Upgrade
via this auction
"Comes with the hard to find vocoder chip, removal tool and power supply."
Curios if that is the original packaging.
Update via KJWilliams96 in the comments: "That is indeed the original packaging for the Vocoda chip."

RedSound eleVAta Rare quirky digital mystery synth
video upload by HanzVolt
"I fell in love with the quirky sound of a RedSound synthesizer in 1999 when I purchsed a new Red Sound DarkStar...The DarkStar required patience to dial up sweet spots, but they were certainly there. A few years later I discovered that they created another machine in '01....
'the eleVAta'
Only 250 were ever produced...
.....and good luck trying to find a decent video of one on the interweb :))"

RARE RED SOUND DARKSTAR
via this auction
Update via Dave O Mahoney in the comments: "The auction is a little misleading... the XP2 does NOT take the vocoder chip. I asked RedSound themselves years ago and the reply was 'It wasnt implemented in software before the product was discontinued.'
The original Darkstar can take them - the XP2 cannot, even though there is an expansion port for the chip. I'll happily swap my XP2 for an original with vocoder chip!
The chips themselves are difficult to come by, but I have seen clone chips on ebay."
