Teisco Synthesizer 60F

Published on Oct 16, 2014 SyntheticMachines

"What a beautiful sounding synth! The Teisco 60F is the little brother of the 110F. A simple one oscillator machine, but with a rich phat sound. And with one of the most beautiful PWM i've ever heard. Sometimes it reminds me of the Yamaha CS 50 / 80.
Beside the piano ( K2000 custom samples + AMS Neve RMX 16 Reverb ) and the wide delay/reverb guitar, all sounds are made with the Teisco synth. As usual a multitrack recording with fx."

Teisco 110f Monophonic Duo paraphonic analog synthesizer w/ MIDI

"Here is a Teisco 110f Monophonic / Duo-paraphonic analog synthesizer! This one is really rare, has amazing sound and a lot of unusual features. Teisco was manufactured by Kawai in the early 80’s. The duo-paraphonic keyboard technology was based on ARP design.

Appart from some normal wear signs, it is in very nice condition. It has been serviced all the way last summer by one of the best tech here in Montreal. Every knobs, switches, sliders, keys, lights, buttons and jacks are working perfectly. The most obvious wear signs are on the wooden sides (see photos #4, #5, #6) and on the bottom side (normal scratches).

MIDI has been added by the same awesome tech (see photo 8) with the “MIDI to CV-Gate Interface MCV-628” by Papareil Synth Labs. All information, documentation and software can be found on the web. The interface let you control notes and one selectable control (either Filter Cutoff, PWM1 or PWM2). This implied the modification seen on photo 7, let me describe the elements seen on this photo from left to right:

the switch is to choose either the notes will be triggered by the keyboard or the incoming midi message
The LED: here is the Papareil’s website description about it: “It is a multi purpose led! It blink 3 times at power on, after the complete init of the cpu/software. It means "All is ok". In normal working condition, the Gate led lights when a note is played or if a recognised SysEx message is received. […] When the interface is in Autolearn mode, the Gate led stay on, until a MIDI message has been received.”
The red button is for autolearn (channel)
The knob has 4 positions and decide which parameter will be affected by modulation message (cc1): 1-cutoff, 2-PWM1, 3-PWM2, 4-OFF"

YuSynth Improvisation, Roland System 700, Teisco 110F, Arturia MiniBrutes

Published on Apr 24, 2014 yusynthman·13 videos

"When I received my Roland System 700 Main Console I programmed a weird drone on which I started to improvised on the Teisco 110F (it can cry like an electric guitar) then added arpeggio and sequence on my pair of Arturia MiniBrutes. That was fun. It is a shame that it was recorded with the microphone of the video camera which tends to blend everything"

Yves Usson aka YuSynth is the creative force behind the Arturia MiniBrute and MicroBrute. Their circuitry is based on Yves Usson's designs with the filter based on the Steiner Parker filter.

Teisco 110f Analogue Synthesizer SN 4047

"In the beginning of the 80's Kawai began manufacturing synthesizers under the company name of Teisco. Their early designs resulted in synths like the S110F above. The Synthesizer 110F is an upgraded S60-F, with dual analog VCO's and an updated look. It has a small but usable 37 note keyboard. Classic analog sawtooth, square, and triangle waveforms plus noise are on-board and can be mixed with external sounds run through the 110F's filters and envelopes. The oscillators can be de-tuned for duophonic textures or phatter leads and bass sounds.

There's plenty of modulation ability and classic analog effects in the 110F to really liven up the sound. There's an LFO which can modulate the VCO and VCF and can trigger the EGs. The VCF resonant low pass filter is great too. There's also a VCA section with Attack, Decay, Sustain and Release controls and finally there's a Hi-Pass filter. There is also a portamento effect, a ring modulator, vibrato and sample-and-hold for those classic analog synth effects and tricks! Lots of pretty blinking lights, a sleek and straight-forward layout and very nice analog bass, lead and synth sounds are all a part of the Synthesizer 110F experience."

Teisco 110f & 60f Demos

Teisco 110f Demo Published on May 5, 2012 Lackan110f·3 videos
Teisco helicopter.

"A demo tune just using the Teisco 110f multitracked. No extra FX used, only a final compression and EQ to the mix.

The Teisco is especially great for fat basses and nice leads, but can also produce some weird ring modulated sounds. A very versatile synth."

"A sound demo just tweaking the Teisco 110f. No extra FX used, recorded straight from the synth.

The Teisco is especially great for fat basses and nice leads, but can also produce some weird ring modulated sounds. A very versatile synth.

I have tried to cover most of the features, but I am sure I have missed out some things. But this will at least cover the basics I think."

"A demo of the Teisco Synthesizer 60f. No extra FX used. Some pots are a bit crackly and the Youtube sound compression is a bit hard at times. Sorry for this.

But I think you will get a general idea of what this marvelous little synth is capable of. The main feature is undisputibly the lush low pass filter, that thanks to a design similar to the Moog technique doesn't loose tone when resonance is up high."

"The synth has been professionally serviced but there are still a few issues:
-There are 6 touch pads to the left of the keyboard. The two for filter do not work, and the two for vibrato only work intermittently
-The volume slider is also intermittent(there is also another volume knob that works fine)
-One knob is not original
This is an extremely rare find, and has one of the most unique filters I have ever had the opportunity to play with."

RARE Teisco S-110F Vintage Analog Synthesizer

"Bored with your synthesizer because it doesn't have enough options? well this thing should keep your entertained for a long long time! The S-110F is packed with all kinds of options...2 VCO's, Ring Modulator, White AND Pink Noise, High AND Low Pass Filter plus a unique 8 band filter bank, Sample and Hold, Strange never before seen touch sensitive Mod pads, Vibrato, Portamento ...and the LFO can modulate the VCO, VCF, and trigger the EGs.

The modulation options are great with routing available from the LFO to the filter cutoff and each oscilator's pitch. The lfo has two main waveform settings, one is a sweepable width pulse, the other a Saw wave that can be continuously swept from a saw through triangle to a ramp. The lfo can also be used to repeatedly trigger one of the two ADSR envelopes. This effectively means that you can create your own LFO shape.

The oscilator routing on this synth is as versatile as on a modular synth. It has 3 oscilators that can be mixed together via the mixer section. One of these is switchable between White or Pink noise or to the ring modulation between the two main oscilators. The pitched oscilators are either Saw, triangle or sweapble width pulse. One osilator can be routed to the other to give analogue FM sounds or alternatively the modulating oscilator can be set a low frequency to give another LFO.

Their is a great choice of filtering on the S110F. The resonant Low Pass filter, A high pass filter and a Filter bank. This does not have the same effect as the conventional filters that synth users are used to but instead is more like a graphic equaliser allowing you to adjust specific frequencies. The filtered signal can then be mixed with the unfiltered to alter and "dirty" the overall tone.

This thing creates some wild sounds that modular fans and avant-garde electronic musicians will definitely fall in love with, but of course it can do all the fat basses and zippy leads that everyone loves old analog synths for so much.

The Japanese Voltage has been modified to US."

TEISCO S-110F Analog Synth

via this auction

"The TEISCO S-110F features two VCO oscillators, and extensive filtering capabilities, and features audio external input,so you can connect a guitar or suchlike!
Also Features KCV /GATE inputs AND Outputs. The 110F has a transistor ladder filter. This filter was a great invention of Bob Moog. The circuit is constructed by transistors connected like a ladder. This circuit is used in lot's of Moog synths, through '60s Modular till '80s Memorymoog and is famous for the fat sound, hover people say the sound of the 110F is more like an. Arp 2600 with the 4012 filter and the Fairlight CMI, and it's additive synthesis section."
